    Huge help my friend. I had an older 02 Yukon. It blessed me with the ability to get way more personal with more of her interior than I would have ever cared to. But of course, her fuel pump was just about the only thing I never needed to get acquainted with. Long story short, upgraded to a‘12 frontier, not planning on pretending to be a mechanic anymore and wouldn’t ya know. The damn fuel pump is the first thing to go. You really saved me some time energy and money. Much appreciated sir!

    Just a little FYI. While the pump is cooled by fuel, its the fuel that is drawn thru and around the pump that cools it, not that its submerged. Just being submerged wouldn't keep it cool for long, fuel and petroleum products are decent insulators so only flow will work to cool. You would have to be actually running out of fuel to be damaging your fuel pump.

    Yes. This follow up was really Excellent and right to the point, to give a good understanding about line of move.
    Though I might be wrong but still I went with the most expensive, original ACDelco fuel pump for my truck, just because of simple logic: if original tolerated about 250K miles, another OEM might last longer for me, especially that I don't have access door to top of the tank and dropping tank is not easy (Hate you GM for ignoring us, just to sell more new or charge more via dealer repair). But I guess if I had access door, I would surely go with cheap chines part.

      I understand why you would want a OEM, because the off brands are not always reliable. I used a cheap one, because I was selling the car anyway. If I was keeping the car, I would have still used a cheaper brand, however I would not drop the tank. Instead I would cut an access door for easy access, using a power cutter, or even a chisel, like several video's on RUclips, like ruclips.net/video/99FdzeBPnng/видео.html or do a search like the following for more, ruclips.net/user/results?search_query=fuel+pump+access+door

    Not all fuel pumps are in tank, some are frame mounted.
    I wouldn't advise someone to cut to get to the fuel pump, one it's dangerous especially for those with no skill in the matter of cutting and second all you do is invite rust to rot out your ride. And lastly C, you could cause exhaust to enter the cab....

    I have a 2005 dodge durango and I was driving on a low fuel tank and the car died. I went to get gas and it has two gallons in it now but still won't start the battery has went dead and I had two guy spray starter fluid into the truck with a battery charger on the battery and it will start while spraying the starter fluid.

    • @MrDidrill
      @MrDidrill  2 года назад

      Hard to say, without more testing, but since it starts with starting fluid, then your problem it that it is not getting fuel to the engine. That could be from a clogged fuel filter, caused from sucking the dirty stuff, from the bottom of the tank when too low on fuel. It is best to have more than a 1/4 tank full, because of this. It could also be that your lost the "prime", and maybe use starting fluid, for a longer time, to get your fuel running again. It could also be a bad fuel pump. You could also disconnect the fuel line, and see if it is pumping gas, which it will do easier when disconnected, especially if air locked. Just bve sure that the fuel line is put into a container, to collect any gas, to be safer.

    • @MrDidrill

      You just need to hit the tank enough to jar loose a stuck fuel pump motor. You may need the power of 2 batteries to free loose a stuck pump, but not to keep running, as the alternator will start working to help with the extra power

      I do have some cost and time saving ideas that could help. First, if your vehicle, requires your fuel tank to be removed to get the fuel pump out, then instead, simply cut an access door above the fuel pump, which can be resealed very easy. There are several videos on youtube that show you how to safely do this. If you need me to furnish you some links, let me know.

      Just because a part is expensive, does not necessarily mean that it is the best. A lot of the cheaper brands, are made by a name brand company, but are marketed under a different name. Sometimes a cheaper brand, is better that the name brand that spends millions on advertising, which elevates their price needs.

    • @MrDidrill
      @MrDidrill  5 лет назад

      The name brands do the expensive advertising, not the cheaper ones, which are sometimes made by the same company.some aftermarket parts are equal to or in some cases better than OEM parts. So you might be paying extra just for the name.
      Johnson Controls, the same company that makes DieHard and Sears car batteries produces AutoZone's Duralast, Varta, AC Delco, as well as 20 other brands.
      EverStart batteries are available at Walmart and are made by a company that also produces some of the premium brand batteries.
      The Kirkland Signature is only available at Costco and is an excellent battery for the price. The amp ratings and performance match many of the super premium brand batteries, but at half the price.
      Do you really think that Walmart makes all of their brand products? If you look at the packaging and ingredients, they are exactly the same as the name brand next to it, and only the label is different. This happens all over, like Riteaid, Walgreens, Safeway, etc.

    Unless you feel like replacing the pump again very soon DON'T.DON'T I repeat DONT buy a cheap Chinese made fuel pump. They are junk. My Dad has owned his own Auto Business for 30 plus years and has replaced many cheap pumps some within a week of the owner or whoever installing one. You don't necessarily need to buy a Motorcraft of some other high end pump unless its a car you are going to keep for a long time. But do some research and buy a decent one. You can plan on spending at least $100. Don't be a POS and put a cheap one in if your selling the car. Show the receipt to the next buyer. He will pay a little extra.

    • @MrDidrill
      @MrDidrill  4 года назад

      I strongly disagree. I paid $16 online at carparts.com for my fuel pump, that would have cost over 10 times that amount at a parts store. Many cars have a door above the pump, so that you do not need to drop the gas tank, and can be changed in less than an hour. Mine did not have a door above the pump, so I cut one out, so that if it ever needs to be changed again, it will be easy, with no need to take it to a mechanic, which would have charged over $400. $16 was a better option for me.

    • @kcbeerslinger
      @kcbeerslinger 4 года назад

      @@MrDidrill Thats fine if you have that option. Most older cars/trucks don't have an access panel. If your paying to get it done are you going to take a chance on paying labor again to replace it to save $75.00 ? I think you were pretty lucky and since you have an easy way to replace yours the cheap way makes sense. Although I wouldn't put a cheapie in my old lady's car. Unless you like to hear the bitching when she's on the side of the road. Like I say, buy a Carter or similar brand. No need for NOS. For the extra cash its worth the ease of mind. Don't you think if cheapies were so good they would put them in at the factory? They pinch every penny.

    As a mechanic of 38 years i have seen every known fuel pump problem out there .Your diagnosing my friend is a little weak ..You are missing out on a lot of what controls a electric fuel pumps . And most diy er are not equipped to do most of these repairs ...on top of putting themselves in danger of getting hurt .Tilting truck beds ,trying to drop full gas tanks ,etc.. Enough said .

    • @MrDidrill
      @MrDidrill  4 года назад

      It does not matter what controls a fuel pump to know that when you put extra amps to it, it will start a weak fuel pump again, or by just hitting the bottom of the tank to jar it also can work. This is the same reason as with a starter drag, which will also work again with a jump start with more amps, or hitting it with a hammer.
      Part re-placers never seem to look out of their box.
      I would never drop a fuel tank anyway, but would instead do the cheaper, easier and fastest way of cutting an opening on top of the pump, if it does not already have an access door.

So instead of paying a mechanic $550.00, I cut a hole, and saved over $500, and it only took me a little over an hour to do it. I just sealed the flap that I cut with some JB weld, and it is like new again.

      First of all, I have been a Mensa member, longer than you have been a mechanic. You probably will need to look that up.
      Second, I never said that mechanics have over charged me, but I have been ripped off by unnecessary and shoddy work. I once had a timing belt replaced, and it fell off and ruined the engine before I got home. Another changed my alternator 2 times before I fixed the problem myself, which was not even the root of the problem in the first place. Or the time my tire almost fell off, because the mechanic forgot to tighten the lug nuts. I could go on and on with more about that.
      Thirdly, I do not need to know how the clock works to set the time, or how to drop a tank, or know how a fuel pump works, to cut a flap, which is much easier, and will never be noticed under the cars carpet after it is sealed. They even have after-market doors that can be installed for future use.
