    • Should I Chop My Wagon... -~-
In this video, I'm going to install King's 3000w inverter and give a review of adventure kings 300-watt inverter.
So I wanted to update my KINGS 1500-watt inverter to the new Kings 3000-watt inverter so I could really test out my DCS lithium 200 amp battery and so I could run more things at the same time while cooking a meal.
I haven't had the unit long enough to be able to give advice on long-term use but I definitely give the unit a hard time while testing out all of my camping gear like my Air fryer, induction cooktop, toaster, and other camping things I take.

The testing and comedy was gold, give the haters nothing, no hot coffee and toast or steak and chips. Electricity and electronics is my weakness so I watch and read a lot to understand what I need for a solar set up. I’ve gone from the idea of a basic agm solar set up with a gas cooktop to lithium and 3000w inverter with toasty maker, kettle induction even a 240v chainsaw instead a battery type, as it will only get used occasionally out bush and about third the price.
Next video should be a full noise testing, comedy and cooking show.

Great review and subscribed - look forward to more reviews, especially on the Kings stuff! Would be interesting to see voltage waveform during large load transients (over voltage) - this is often what kills electronics when drawing on the same inverter. I’ve seen generator (Kings in fact!) reviews where the cheaper ones would spike at around 300V - electronics death 💀

If you are drawing ~250 amps before the battery BMS cuts out, what is that in watts draw?
    Is it 250amps @ 12V = 3000 watts?
In that case the inverter was pumping out its max output and still functioning ok?

I run DCS as well, 75ah under the bonnet of my Amarok, runs my Engel, lights and 600w inverter and 100ah in my cub camper runs my other Engel 1500w kings inverter and lights. To get over the BMS limitations you can run another similar sized battery in parallel. I'm thinking of putting the 3000w kings inverter in my cub and adding another 100ah DCS in parallel. Theoretical max discharge current should be at least 400amps.

I’m sure many will disagree, but check out his experiments from a year ago with irregular size, capacity cells, & as he has more recently called it, the latest ‘Frankenstein Battery’, which have all passed capacity & high output current tests with flying colours.

I’m still learning. Just like with wire size and fuse, every chart seems different, etc. My theory was bigger is better, bought 4/0 cable, then needed a hydraulic press to put on the connectors. I may have a run over 6 feet from tongue batteries so maxed out cables? Thanks for a real, down to earth video, real life use. Now I need to get an inverter that works properly, lol

Awesome video mate. Kings are definitely improving there products. If your still looking for a home for the 1500watt inverter, I’m building new draws for the back of my patrol and actually using your draw build for inspiration. An inverter is out of by league currently due to budget constraints and it would be very much appreciated.

For moving camps no, I only ever take the induction these days.
If it’s a base camp for more then 2 days I’ll take a small gas cooker because the battery doesn’t last long enough past 2 days without running the car for a bit ( and who wants to do that while camping )
So far so good and I haven’t had any failures.
I have had gas cook tops fail over the years and leave me with no cooking ( apart from the fire ) but I’ve used gas cook tops forever and only started induction the last 18 months.
But I’ve still got the fire to fall back on

Awesome. If only I waited a couple of weeks I could have gotten the 3000W inverter when I bought my 1500w. Something to add regarding the cables. In found that the ones which came with my inverter were only 4GA. Insert a lot of engineering jargon and I recommend upgrading to 2GA. Similarly 2GA is only rated to roughly 150A. The 3000W inverter will draw 250A at max load and insert engineering jargon I recommend ditching the included cables and get some 0GA cable especially if you're running the cables longer than 1m.

    • @frednurks8528

Agree with you completely. Cables supplied with inverters are always undersized. People need to realize that efficiency of the conversion to AC needs to be taken into account. The DC current draw for 3000 watts of AC will be more like 300 amps. A rough rule of thumb in determining cable size is to use 10 volts instead of 12 volts in your power calculation to work out how many DC amps will be needed to produce the rated AC power.

Maybe it's people's setup's rather than the inverters

G'day Steve. I've got a similar setup except the renogy 3000w and dcs battery. I too hate the DCS app its garbage i use a victron battery monitor and much prefer their app. I would suggest that cable is completely inadequate for the current draw i use 2 x 50mm2 welding cable both in and out of the inverter. Be interesting to test at battery peak of 250 amps and see how long the inverter will go for

A full noise the cables were starting to get warm but nothing too concerning ( to me anyway ). The unit won’t really be getting used at 100% very often and definitely not for very long as my battery won’t last that long 😂.
I have considered getting an after market battery monitor but it’s just more money for something that already ( kinda ) works

    • @1989cranston

@@Australian4x4Adventures cables shouldn't get warm at all. They are getting warm because there is so much resistance in the cable, so effectively pulling more current from your battery than what is actually needed. Not good news for your battery.

If you want to add a jet engine to your 4x4 this is the inverter you need😂😂 they could at least add a proper temp controls for the fans it is so loud .The inverter itself works great I have no complaints about it and set for the noise the produces, i’ve often thought about pulling it open and Adding a PC fan controller because it does not need to run at that rpm because I do not feel any heat coming out of it although I don’t use that the maximum wattage, I don’t know if the new one they got out now has better fan control but due to coronavirus I could only buy old stock.
And if you’re only using it occasionally jeez it’s a good bang for buck but I live off grid in the bush so this is my main inverter which now I know I’m buying the more expensive one

Great video mate. I only have a 100ah lithium battery in my car with max 270ah draw. I already purchased the 3000w inverter, not thinking about the battery capacity I would need. I am only intending using mine to grind coffee beans, use a coffee perculator and heat milk, all at maybe 1400w - 1600w - cant beat a good coffee first thing! I expect that this will take about 6 minutes in total. At most, this would only pull 20 amps out of the battery each morning. Do you think my setup will survive this okay?

The kings lithium batteries are a fraction of the cost, but would you feel comfortable in having one in your vehicle. Are they safe and would they last as long as premium brand batteries?
