- 10 days to edit this bad boy! Hope it was worth the wait! What is your favourite customization option in this skin pack? I'm not bluffing when I say this is probably my preferred model now. The vanilla Frontiers model is fine but this is much more aesthetically pleasing. I've even modified the files to have my preferred combo of custom animations :)

I don't understand why they make one of the best character models and just don't use them in the main games! like, if they do this for spin off games why don't they do it for the main games too? the same thing for the Sonic Forces Speed Battle skins which have great designs and concepts and are for mobile games, it would be perfect if they made a port of these skins and models for the games as free DLC or as a bonus to be unlocked within the game, now that they are adding the customization option more frequently, why not combine all the good and best things they've ever done and put everything together in the games?

Great work, I just was a necessity to show it off! I've headcanoned that he gets his power from the sun 😎 and I know his abilities would be some of the coolest in the franchise! I can imagine him summoning smaller spirit bombs similar to the one The End detransforms Super Sonic with.

Rio 2016 is actually a sega developed game, it was made by Sega Sports R&D, who have made all the Mario and Soni titles. Funnily enough though the lead character artists from Rio 2016, Shiniji Matsuura, actually did work on Sonic Forces. Which is where the current, and much reviled, Sonic model originates from

It's the one I keep gravitating to on my own time 😅 I don't even mind the current art direction but it's a little odd how little Modern Sonic has dipped their toes into stylization. Seems about time we get something on par with Battle or Riders again

4:29 - 4:56 feels so much like sonic x for me, I love how the cell shaded skin looks with the running animation, it fits better with it. And the fortress fight just felt like Sonic X

Funny thing, that actually is possible and I want to try it soon! To my knowledge not every character has a stylized celshader model (only Sonic & Amy with Knuckles having one in dev) but we probably won't wait long :)
there is a new version of Reanimated out. the first version had no update server connection.

Oh no I absolutely agree! He's probably my favorite transformation next to Excalibur right now but I didn't notice anything new about him in the mod. The first time I saw him I yelled "is that a fleetway reference??"
15:42 it's actually 30s animation that mostly used the pacman eyes. A lot of Disney cartoons you may remember (like Donald eating pills to change his voice, or Goofy road raging) are from the 40s.
This should actually be a dlc not gonna lie

Awesome video, one thing about the Olympics models that surprising to me is there detail, back in 2017, Sochi 2014 was actually the best Mario model in terms of ploy count (obviously before Odyssey dropped) which is funny because it was made by Sega, but as for Sonic's Olympic model, I find the center mouth to look uncanny at times, something about it looks kinda bootlegged to me, but I guess it works well for things like having him talk and emote
While I like the Odyssey model there's something slightly off about his texture materials for me. I really enjoy the detail on Brawl Mario but in Odyssey it doesn't look the most appealing with that art style. Extreme nitpick but it felt relevant lol. In general I think it looks best next to the CG 2000s model

This model and all the skins were very well done, Sock really prepared a very good pack for the mod and I'm curious to see what he will add next because his work is very good and I loved how he used Rio Sonic model as a basis for making skins like the track suit, which is one of my favorites and not only did he use one of the best models (in the case of the olympics) but he keeps adding as many options to customization as possible as if it were an official DLC! In other words, there will still be a lot of content to show and make videos as well as Meloh's mod updates, which is very good besides that it will also add skins from Sonic Forces Speed Battle which in my opinion have great skins and if you combine this with Meloh's mod from Sonic Frontiers Reanimated you have the perfect combo and I think it's funny that apparently it was SEGA itself who did it the character models for the olympic games and they don't use the best models for the main games! why? It would be so good if they reused the good things and put them all together
Yeah, I love that even though this is mainly an import from another existing game it's also full of original additions from Sock themself. It makes it more valuable to try out
OK yeah I'm sold, this looks fire. Most of the time I feel too smooth brained to have an opinion on Sonic 3D models of all things but now I want Rio Sonic everywhere
I'm in a similar boat. Usually I can't tell what's so different between things like the Unleashed, Gens & Marza models but this one has it's own stylization that should be the blueprint.
@@DolphynsDeck Fully agreed, I'd love to see Sonic keep these proportions going forward. To be fair I don't know how much leg work Frontiers Reanimated is doing lol, I know how impressive that mod is, but even just seeing Rio Sonic standing there looks really cool, so there's definitely good merit to the model

As a person who beat secret rings, i will say that the ring that Sonic is wears is not a world ring. It is shara's genie ring.
The 7 world rings are different from genie rings.

I think the only thing missing from this model is the "partial" removal of the butt-brow, and only allow that to show up in certain emotions, like that one art of classic sonic where his eyebrows are relaxed so the butt-brow isn't there, would help a lot with expressions, you would be able to tell if he's angry or not without the need for him to smile.
oooh, you mean butt-brow only exists when he needs it? I like that. I see that stylization a lot in official art for classic sonic and it makes him feel inherently more chill.
@@DolphynsDeck a lot of the issues the current model has with expression is entirely because of the American box art having sonic stuck in one expression, which forced them to use his eyelids and his mouth a lot, they could get a lot more out of sonic's face if they made the butt-brow flat in neutral expressions, and only actually show up when he's angry or frustrated or even sad.

The jumpball comes with the mod & I use vanilla physics with max speed settings and no jump deceleration :)

I really like it except one thing : The middle mouth. We got away from it and we shouldn't get any close to it ever again, animation with it feels either gross or out of place!

how tho, the middle mouth looks more natural than it being permanently stuck on the side, especially when hes looking at the camera
ideally the mouth should be able to move around all across his muzzel and should be positined to face the camera at all times

I think the racesuit is lowkey underrated outside of the SA2 community, would like to see more rep. Archie King Sonic needs a mod though, that's the one I prefer

My favorite design for a "king" Sonic still is the Sonic Channel outfit, his cape and crown are just so pretty, but I can totally understand wanting a mod for Archie's King Sonic

No, they only sometimes work on Switch when it comes to consoles. The game is 50% off on PC right now though.
I think these Models are good mainly cus there not trying to be an HD version of the Adventure model also I really hope the next main line sonic game gives us more sonic skins

It's just called 'Cel Shaded Sonic' from the extras tab in the Rio Sonic mod
Sega has done so well with this game, and it has come a long way. I dont think anything in the Sonic francise has made me jump up and scream like the Final Horizon update. Except when Super Sonic showed up at the end of Sonic 2's movie. They wanted to make Sonic as cool as possible, and they succeeded. Never has Sonic given me the same vibes as seeing Ultra Instinct Goku did when he first appeared on screen. Sonic will forever and always be one of the slickest and coolest characters in video games.
I have the exact same experience with this game and Sonic 2, lmaooo. Growing up on the Archie comics it was crazy to get a game that put me in the driver seat and encouraged the same kind of action I usually only saw in those books because they had infinite creative freedom. And then Final Horizon happened and met my expectations for an ideal Sonic game. It was beautiful.

I dunno, the Pumas were always kind of disappointing to me, because. . . they're just pumas. They're not any kind of special shoes that would have any business surviving all the punishment Sonic puts them through, and he gets them from a kid he interacts with about one time. I kinda wish we'd had Tails in the first movie just so he could make Sonic specialized shoes.

I'm starting to think I may be an outlier, but I grew up reading the Archie comics, and his shoes were pretty special in that canon since his uncle made them for him. I get that we can't really have Uncle Chuck in the movie canon(although that would be awesome), but Tails seems like the next best option.
@@jessiebell6884 I also love Archie, I'm glad you mentioned that! I think there's room to make some official lore on why Sonic's shoes can stand his usage. Same goes for lore on the rings which is also something Archie did. Even considering how they use warp rings in the movie they could pull some ideas from Archie. All-in-all I think I mainly like his aesthetic, but it's undeniable that it would be more interesting with some lore. Even Shadow's shoes have more intent behind them.

I think my only issue with the reanimated mod is that, the normal standing animation looks so weird, the bend in his knees don't look right, the rest of the animation is awesome!

Whatever's the latest version is probably what I got. For some reason that one doesn't work on Final Horizon saves (in which case I use a different mod called Improved Camera iirc)

Big agree with the official models mod!! I've seen something extremely similar but for Amy before Sonic himself lmao! It's called Amy Frontiers I think? It has virtually everything from Olympics, Sonic R, etc. all the way to Prime with support for real Amy and a reskin of Sonic with custom animations... It's a lot

Makes sense though. The basic model has gotten derpy, then it underped but got stale.
The Olympic Game models are copying the look but don't carry over the same nuances, giving us something slightly different and fresh. BECAUSE it's different, it feels better to see.
These are still not my favorite but I can see why people like them. Not so sure it was Nintendo that made them though. Coulda swore that Olympic Games was developed mostly on SEGA's side but idk.

@@DolphynsDeck Yeah. Mine is the Dreamcast SA2 model. Idk there’s something about how all the aspects balance each other out and feels made up of circles and curves lines like the 2D artwork by Yuji Uekawa. I feel a sense of style and energy with it. That’s just me. I do like elements of the Riders model too. I mean I like the whole thing but it’s very much FOR the Riders games when looked at as a whole.

PC, I haven't bothered fiddling with bottles to make HMM work yet. It is possible and I'll dedicate some time to testing it one of these days
I hope the next game gives us alternate skins like this, not just for Sonic but for each playable character. 30 years of history to pull from, even the Speed Simulator and Sonic Channel stuff. The Sonic cast is just begging to have customizable features. It was nice with the costumes we did have in Frontiers. But I hope that for the next game they are actually purchasable in in-game shops and there are far more of them then what we have in Frontiers. If Mario can do it in Odyssey I don't see why Sonic can't.
When they added the Holiday Cheer & Monhun outfits I was unnecessarily happy because it felt like direct references to Sonic Channel 😊
Considering the popularity of skin mods & the Generations customization mod I think it's solid proof that they could do more with the designs. It always confused me why costume DLC wasn't more frequent for Frontiers and Superstars. Hell, half the reason I play Speed Battle is for the alt costumes.
Being able to fish for skins would've been INCREDIBLY sick
@@DolphynsDeck maybe certain costumes can be bought in certain open zones. Depending on the biome and location. Like you can buy Sonic's summer outfit from Speed Simulator in a beach biome, or the suit and tie outfit from Sonic Rivals 2 in a Casino biome. Why stop at just Sonic? Why not give the cast costumes based off other SEGA properties, a Jet Set Radio costume for Sonic or a Ulala outfit for Amy.

@@DolphynsDeck Tails getting a Phantasy Star outfit. I was thinking they could have Eggman bases on different biomes in the open zone. These Eggman bases would reflect the biome and would have combat gauntlets, platforming, puzzles, and a boss fight. At the end you would get an Egg Memo.
How did you make the reanimated mod work with another model?

You need to have the DLCs for certain costumes to appear. The only ones I don't have installed are the Adventurer's Treasure Box and Korone (because it's region locked)

Brawl Sonic is totally the best Sonic model. But the cell-shaded Adventure Cover Art Sonic looks better to me
are you talking about the Uekawa Sonic mod or just that art style in general?
but yeah, I think brawl / 06 sonic works really well in this game because of the realism direction they went in

Anyway, i think the 06 and Brawl models would work not only because of the realistic aesthetics, but also because preety much every character sounds and acts like an older and more matured self, and to visually connect the characters to their evolved mindsets (for the lack of a better word), an aged up model would be very fitting
idk why tried the mod with me but when i have the reanimated thing but 1. his nose was TAN, 2.when i just set it to default it just goes back to vanilla sonic that i dont like :( and 3. the jumpball was also still the vanilla one , can you pls help me how to fix this pls dolphyns deck :( ...also im 10
