This song makes me happy when I'm sad and sad when I'm happy
That's a great quote. 💪
Literally my exact feelings on this song.
That’s what I wanted...give me something
Powerful song
This articulates what I couldn't
I was stunned by the beauty of this song's voice... if I play.. it I play it more than once just because it is so emotionally gorgeous.. I am 71 tears old and love discovering gorgeous new music. Katie certainly does have some unconditional love packed up inside. Thanks Kati
I love you friend, unconditionally 🩶
I'm 60 and I Love it. Music has no sell by date!
watching her grow up from writing lo-fi fuzzy guitar melodies to becoming a full band leader to someone capable of penning this has been one of the greatest little secrets of growing in this decades history of music. Thanks Katie! Thanks Merge for the platform! See you at Union Transfer
Totally agree, Joshua! Katie has been one of my favorite artists for the past 6-7 years and to see her become the artist she is today has been a great to see.
totally! from seeing her play fun little punk songs with her sister in 08 to the mature artist she has grown to be through the years has been so fulfilling.
Anyone else cry anytime they see a river since quarantine? All that water traveling where it wants to go. Country like hers is good for that kind of feeling.
@@tabithasonger6568 True! I hadn’t even registered the chord consistency the dynamics are so engaging. I’ve been realizing how many of my favorite songs are like that, and how much I overcomplicate my own sometimes with a forced change for a chorus. Simplicity, flow, and feeling can be everything.
The opening vocals give me goosebumps.
Great song.
one of the greatest songs i've ever heard ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
That's what I wanted
It's not as if we cry a river, call it rain
West Memphis is on fire in the light of day
Give me something, it ain't enough
It ain't enough
I take it for granted
If I could love you unconditionally
I could iron out the edges of the darkest sky
For some of us it ain't enough
It ain't enough
And I take off driving
Past places been tainted
I put on a good show for you
And when I turn back around
Will you drain me back out
Will you let me believe that I broke through?
Tomorrow could feel like a hundred years later
I'm wiser and slow and attuned
And I am down on my knees
I'm a bird in the trees
I can learn to see with a partial view
I can learn to be easy as I move in close to you
And that's what I wanted
It's not as if we cry a river, call it rain
West Memphis is on fire in the light of day
Give me something, it ain't enough
It ain't enough
I take it for granted
If I could love you unconditionally
I could iron out the edges of the darkest sky
For some of us it ain't enough
It ain't enough
Somebody please take my phone away from me.... I can't stop listening to this masterpiece.... Never thought Spotify could introduce me to the quality music...
I've crossed that bridge countless times throughout my life. No matter which direction you take it always feels like you are descending...either into Memphis or into the Arkansas Delta. The sheer width of The River at that point still amazes me as it seems like a lake but it's all one relentlessly moving body of water. Beautiful song.
i’ve only crossed it once... and in some way it changed me. such a beautiful place
I hear you. I too have crossed the bridge countless times. One of my favorite views on the planet is traveling east on I-40 and seeing from 5 or so miles out Memphis rise up in front of me like an oasis. That's when I know I'm home.
Doesn't look like the I-40 bridge. Maybe the 55?
@madmax8949 Parts were were on the I-55. You can see the old iron bridge in some shots.
@@scottieray That's what I thought. The de Soto bridge is dangerous to be on. It might collapse!
This is honestly one of those songs that you can listen to for hours when you’re sad :)
Did it.
I listen to this when I am sad : ruclips.net/video/gvi03-Y8qcg/видео.html

It’s not a sad song though.

This song and the whole album feels like a warm embrace after a devastating heartbreak. I love you Katie.
"I'm a bird in the trees. I can learn to see with a partial view." beautiful song writing. :)
By far my favorite album of the year. And for some reason, it makes me feel closer to my daughters.
This song is everything I’ve lived and I still get choked up when I hear it. -Gimme something, it ain’t enough-
I never comment on music videos on RUclips. I have known Katie since Ivy Tripp. This new song is a huge anthem, a saving elegy for lonely people in a bedroom. Katie you're magic. Thank you.
My 6yo granddaughter Ava loves this song.
the way this builds up owns
And iiiii take off driiiivin past plaaaces been taaiinted

Yeah, especially the toms at 2:19
Yes the drums in this song are subtle and spectacular
This song absolutely breaks me every time I listen to it. Katie's vocals hit you like a sledgehammer, especially the opening line
This song is heartbreakingly beautiful.
I listen to this song multiple times per day
I discovered this song 3 months ago thanks to Spotify's algorithm. Have listened to it another 20-30 times since then. Amazing how three plain old chords can sounds so new. Testament to great songwriting I suppose
Waxahatchee has such an amazing sound, but Katie has so much depth to her voice. This band is absolute magic.
Not a very nice person from what I hear though.
I love discovering new music. Didn't know a thing about Waxahatchee. Now I'm obsessed. Thank you!
Be safe and be well out there, my people! 🙌🙏❤️
I highly suggest her breakdown of writing this song on song exploder
Ditto!
Aghhhh thank you so much! I didn’t know this podcast existed but it’s exactly what I have been wanting to listen to 😎
I remember listening Waxahatchee about 2013, and I can't believe the production and songwriting quality she've been developing now. Amazing.
OMG the lifeline of the country rock greats flow here

SO AWESOME
Hello Mississippi River, Memphis, and Arkansas!!! represent!
This song is an absolute gem.
A lot of heart and soul in this song... thank you for the wonderful work.
1:53 references her song “the eye” on St. Cloud on that written piece of parchment paper which is a standout lyric in all of this album. Brings me to tears for how close it hits home. Thank you Waxahatchee ❤
Really digging the subtle country vibes on this track! Katie does it one again!
She moved back south and it definitely shows.
My favorite Waxahatchee song, I did not expect to enjoy it this much
I'm from Russia and i think "Saint Cloud" is one of the best album of the year! Amazing songs!
Respect bro
She’s back. I’ve fallen all over again.
Dude right? OMG
It feels nostalgic. Warm dusk and city lights...
"wiser and slow and attuned" ❤️
New Waxahatchee! Major cause for celebration.
This sound is a little different than other songs on the album. The whole album has blown me a way, as a first time listener to her music, but this song reverberated in the chambers of my heart.
Katie has shared that this album was a manifestation of her decision to get sober and heal from codependency. I think that's why there's such a palpably different, more positive sound to it. It's pretty amazing when you consider how much pain was inherent in her previous works.
This really tugged at my heart.
I've been listening to Katie Crutchfield's music for a fair while now and I like this as well, but that opening vocal really caught me by surprise. Yeah I know it's probably intentional. Looking forward to the rest of the album.
Jim Maguire it caught me off guard too! I think its one of those touches that makes sense after repeated listens tho, hard for me to doubt Katie after all these years lol
Thats what she wanted! 😬😬😬
In my art teacher voice - think Ghost World - AN AMAZING ACHIEVEMENT! And I honestly really mean it. She is AMAZING! I love this song.
This song just gives me so many feels at once. . . GENIUS
Musicians like this give me hope for the future of "the music industry", whatever form that will take, music will never die. Musicians are just working people, and expecting millions to do your job is what killed music. It is to express, not to earn...(I know, shush old man)
loved this song when it first came out and I had forgotten the name of the band and song name but today while having my phone on shuffle it played this song, been listening to it all day ever since and this time I will NOT forget Katie and her band......Fire!!!
This woman has been narrating my life in song since P.S Eliot ❤️ I love this song so much
When Lindsey Buckingham says it's his song for 2020 ya just gotta check it out 😍🔥❤🔥❤

I've probably listened to this song 100 times this week alone. Saint Cloud is far and away my favorite album of 2020. Can't wait for the live performances of Out In the Storm on 6/29 and Saint Cloud on 7/6. *swoon*
I found this through the Song Exploder podcast and love so many things about it. It is really cool to learn how this song was created, and I love the range of pitch and textures in the vocal.

omg CAN'T WAIT for the new album I'm so stoked!
I hold as a pretty firm belief that, artistically, the Sisters Crutchfield can do damn near no wrong, and this absolute masterpiece is full support for that. God damnit what a fucking flawless song.
Wonderful song

This song was released right before the pandemic and I have to say Fire gave me a lot of comfort. It has a beautiful timeless quality and a feeling of endurance and survival.
