  • The Miniature Pinscher, or Min Pin as it is commonly called, is not, as many believe, a small Doberman. Its ancestor is the German Pinscher to which Italian Greyhound and, it is thought, Dachshund blood was added.
A painting, The Peasant Family, dated 1640 and currently in the Louvre, Paris, includes the likeness of a dog similar to the Miniature Pinscher. The Min Pin has an attractive hackney (high-stepping) gait.
It makes an ideal pet for town or country, being affectionate and intelligent, and rarely molting. The breed enjoys obedience work and exercise, often following a scent.
It is easy to groom, requiring little more than a daily brush and a rub-down with a silk handkerchief or piece of chamois leather to make its coat shine.
In this video, we'll go over why Miniature Pinscher has run away with this dubious distinction, and present to you all kinds of other facts that will fuel your appreciation for the breed.

I owned a min pin for 15 years.
He was brave to the point of being ridiculous.
He was devoted to our family till the very end.

Yes, I had a female MinPin, and she was the best companion that I ever had. I was an over the road truck driver while raising her in my truck, going all over the country. She obeyed me beyond all instinct and desire. Alas, my poor baby died of 😮sugar diabetes. As she was suffering I went to the vet. She advised me to put her down, she couldn't see, and overweight. No diet worked on her, after she was fixed she just swelled right up and became a wide load. But I loved her still. I miss her😢

Min pins are little mini gods. Their cuteness is overpowering.

I have a 1.5 year old min pin/chihuahua mix. But the min pin personality certainly dominates. Someone told me last weekend that min pins are crazy. I tend to agree with that. Yes they are stubborn and all and will come when they are called if they think there is something good in it for them. So I generally only call him when something good is about to happen (treats, rides in the car, walks, going outside, etc.) so he has figured that out. All of this is very accurate I had to wire up some small gaps in my chain link fence and most of the time he goes out in the yard he generally does a look see just in case a hole opened up. So I would say, stubborn, high energy, crazy, but also very loveable. I absolutely adore my min pin mix despite his stubbornness. Really a great companion. I thought I was a dog whisperer or dog psychology expert until I got this dog and now I am having to learn a lot and it is a bit humbling but funny at the same time. Six months in and I still don't know what thoughts are going on in that min pin brain of his. But gradually figuring things out. What they say is generally true don't get a min pin if it is your first dog.

I have a Chipin also and it's true. They are crazy but so lovable, quirky, and comical. I tell people he's like that crazy buddy of yours who always gets himself (at at times, everyone around him) in trouble, but they're so fun to be with so you keep hanging out with them. We've gotten kicked out of dog parks because he has a thing against pugs and just harasses the heck out of them. So embarrassing because pugs are so sweet and I've tried to change this odd quirk but to no avail. Now, when I see that demonic look on his face, I know there's one in the vicinity and it's time to go.

Ziggy is a trypical minpin, but my son is his playmate and I'm his boss. He obeys me because I control the treats. Smart boy. Wonderful dog, loves everyone and cries when they leave....❤️❤️❤️

It sounds like Ziggy, your Miniature Pinscher (MinPin), has a great dynamic with your family! It's wonderful that he gets along well with your son and sees him as a playmate. Establishing yourself as the "boss" through training and controlling the treats is a smart approach to gaining Ziggy's obedience and respect.

Min Pins are known for their high energy and intelligence, which can sometimes lead to them finding creative ways to escape from enclosed spaces.
It sounds like your Min Pin is a true escape artist, and it's great to hear that she's found some common ground with your cats when it comes to exploring and seeking out high places.
Whether your Min Pin is exploring new territory, seeking out high places, or simply playing with your cats, it's great to see her having fun and living life to the fullest!

👍Yup, our adopted senior min pin runs our house & we wouldn’t have it any other way.
We give him a supplement called Sam E for his slight dementia. He used to go outside to “take a break”, forget to go, just stand there staring & run away from us when we tried to get him in after he finally emptied his bladder. He seems much better with it every other day. He gets a great diet of real food & monthly heart worm pill. These little guys are so amazing.

I've had the pleasure of being owned by 3 Min Pins, 2 black and tans, 1 solid red. The 1st, Joe was all play, all of the time. Except when he was fining a way out of our fenced back yard (NOTE: chicken wire fence isn't even a mild deterrent - he just chewed thru it). Boomer 1, the second wasn't as playful, but I swear he spoke (or, at least understood English better than my kids! Poor Boomer 3 was a rescue dog who had been dumped in the desert at a very young age, and I think it stunted his mental growth, or anything much more that, "Dinner time!".

My first dog… The one I had before I got my corgi cross, I'm sure she was part Minpin. Looking at them, I can see her in them. The energy, and also the escape artistry. Definitely my first dog… Which is why she only lived to be 2 1/2. She got out and got hit by car. Anyway… My first dog, though I can see them in pen in her, was definitely a lot more friendly than what mine pins are described to be. She would go up to anyone and tongue maul them. She never had a bad bone in her body. I think the worst things were her chewing… She racked up a $500 chewing bill… And her escape artistry. And yes, weighing in at 4 kg, she could clear a 6 foot fence no problem. I think the other biggest problem with her with her barking. You put her outside to go and empty herself, and she would bark and bark and bark. And one time, we found a hole in the back fence she had made and she it was going regularly and talking to the neighbours behind us. Sometimes, looking back on her, especially now that I have owned cats since then, there was something almost cat like in the way she would get through things and jump fences and things like that.
