The CBR 300 R with abs is a fantastic little bike. I have owned one! Yes I moved to a higher capacity bike, but I actually miss the cbr. It's nimble and it does just fine at highway speeds. When passing you just have to time your pass, period. You have to look at the bike for what it is and not compare it to a 600. Good riders don't judge motorcycles by just how fast they can go. As a matter of fact, having to change gears more frequently provides the rider with a lot more practice on clutch and throttle control.
Test rode a 300r for myself as a first bike out of the MSF class. Had low expectations for it being slow and boring. Was completely surprised and really liked it. Still has getup and go at 70mph. Loved the cbr500r I tested also but didn't want to spend $7000 for the 500, $4300 for the 300 was much more in my price range. Great beginner bike to learn on. Get out and test ride if you're looking for a first bike.
For no reason at all, here comes a shit review of two tiny bikes: I've got a CBR250R and my dad has an R3. Having driven both in twisties and the highway, there's no point comparing the power output; it's 40 HP vs. 23 HP and the R3 smokes the 250. However, the CBR feels bigger and more stable in the highway somehow and we both agreed on that. The R3 feels more plucky and tiny which is great in the city but in the highway, not so much. Brakes on both are average at best. Way easier to lean the R3 in the bends, almost too much, it felt too light when leaned over compared with the CBR which holds some weight. Felt odd but it didn't drop me or slide out even once so it's all good. The seat is way better in the CBR, plushier, wider and more touring-esque. The R3 seat feels a bit more Supersport derived; narrower and firmer. Easier to reach the ground with your feet on the R3 though due to the thinner seat. I understand the CBR300 is exactly the same as the 250 with an engine upgrade. If so, for a pricepoint and with reasonable expectations, I'd still recommend if even if the Ninja 300/R3 are faster machines. It's still a valid choice for many reasons. If you made it down to here, you're amazing and thank you. :)
that whole " you'll grow out of the 250" is a bunch of bullcrap. who ever says that most likely only commutes. I've past 600 on turns before and im not even close to growing out of my 250. thats just an excuse to get a bike that does 60 in 3 seconds which really no one really needs in the road. imo
It's like people who say the Mazda Miata MX-5 doesn't have enough power. That car is like the CBR300R of cars. You truly don't need more power. All you need is total awareness of surroundings.

I still have a soft spot for entry level, low-cc bikes. After years of riding, I still have never been as excited to get out and ride as I was when I had my little Ninja 250R.
My last two bikes were a 600 Katana and an Air cooled GPZ 750, and this little CBR300R has a personality of her own. I have always wanted a single cylinder sport bike, and around town in a college town this bike is more than perfect. When you get on it a tiny bit it sounds like she's working hard!, and she sounds good. Handling is awesome, and this is my first bike with ABS and they are the best brakes I have ever had on a sport bike.
Everyone keeps talking about power with this bike and that is not what it is all about, that bike is for flicking thru slow ass traffic in a lane splitting situation. Amazing flickery unmatched by none.
I just bought this bike in March 2016. I bought this for a commuter bike, and I have to say it is super fun taking it through the twisties. I am super happy with this bike. The only issue I have is it doesn't like 1st gear.
I have to say, you are now one of the best bike reviewers around. I think that they are put together really well, and contain great info. Most other reviews basically outline the brochure, and give only a little more info. They don't talk about the personality or quirks like you do..
I don't understand "250 cant drive safely on the high way"?? Whats your speed limit 170kmph? No its 120kmph or 70mph. I can get that easily on my stock standard CBR250 so whats the problem?
Finally! Someone said it. I can't understand people who fail to realise that these little bikes do just fine on the freeway. Most of the time the traffic's not moving fast enough for you to do the speed limit anyway.
I know this old but I had to Chime in. The problem isn't if they can do the speed limit, because they certainly can. The problem is if the speed limit is 65 or 70mph you have no actual power to pull away or do much evasive riding. i have a Ninja 250r and it is quite a bit faster than the cbr250, and I don't feel super safe on the freeway due to not have the power to avoid things if I needed to.
For those of us who don’t live in congested city’s, we have to do 75-80mph and still be moving to slow to keep in flow with the traffic. So a bike whose average 65-70 mph would be unsafe on the freeway!
the good thing about a 250 as a beginner bike is that if you pick one up used, even if you outgrow it fast you can save your money while learning for a few months and then sell the 250 for the same price you bought it for.
"I'm not sure if I'll feel confident and/or safe on the highway with a 300." Well, how about us 18 to 20 y/o in a lot of countries where we can only ride a 125. Don't complain about a 300 when you could have worse xd
IsDitGerben I'm 17, riding my 125cc. It's the new CBR with wider tires, Repsol paint etc. I really enjoy it and I can get to go like 130km/h (135km/h on speedo!) out of it when sitting upright. Though sometimes the wind can be quite a pain in the ass and you have to lay down on your bike.
I have had a cbr300 for about two months and it’s be fine for me on the halfway and around town It gets better when the gears break in and you get used to though horn and a turn signal’s positions
I think you are missing the point. It is too easy for a highly experienced rider to forget what it is like to be a beginner. It takes time for a new rider to gain real skill on a bike and those skills are more easily gained on a smaller lighter machine of modest power. Also for a young rider sticking to the less busy backroads and away from high density high speed highways is a good thing. Backroad twisties are way more fun and never boring, especially on a backroad weapon like the 300R. 28 RWHP is more than enough for an inexperienced teen.
Another awesome bike review. I've always enjoyed the 250-300 bikes, even though I own a 636, that said. I want to get another 300 classed bike just for the "relaxed" ride they have. Thanks again for all the insight Chase.
horrible review...why didn't you focus on other real issues like gearbox feel, lean angle, center of gravity, brakes, reliability, etc instead of muffler size, front fork bottom design and blinkers, horn button size or engine braking...... sounds like a squids review.....
GT6SuzukaTimeTrials I rode a Ninja 300 for 9000 miles and almost 2 years before I sold it and after moving on to a ZX-6R and an 800cc adventure bike I'm very close to picking up a CBR300R soon. I'm quite confident that I won't be bored.

I have one of these. First bike. From what I have learned, this thing is really forgiving. And to those saying that it's not enough power, I will say that it's still way faster than my car.
I looked but could not find a review for the CBR600F anywhere. And I guess I accidentally said CBR600R instead of CBR600F. Lol. So yeah I can find his 600RR review, but that's not the same bike.

These 300s are such underrated bikes. The fact you can get a brand new, liquid cooled, fuel injected Honda for 4,000 bucks is insane. I've rode a Honda rebel hundreds of miles at a time and I don't even think that's 20 horsepower. Some of the greatest riding I've ever done. I hate the "you'll grow out of it" mentality. Wouldn't everyone be on an h2 after a year or two? If you just keep moving up that's the only stopping point. Decent review but try to think from an every day person's view.
Chase! I live literally 10 minutes from Mountain Motor sports and I know every street you just drove. It's kinda weird and really cool to see the streets around here on a motovloggers channel. Thanks for the review man I am looking at bikes to decide what I want as a first bike. Insurance is really high on sports bikes because I am young so I may get a cruiser. Philip McIntosh I love my Ninja 300... plenty of power once fully broken in for in-town riding, and can manage long trips / highway riding just fine too. I wish I could afford the Ninja 650 insurance rates... but for now, I'm definitely loving my Ninja 300. I do prefer the appearance of the exhaust on the CBR over the Ninja obviously though. But at the same time... I crashed my bike last summer, and that ugly ass shielding over the exhaust saved me $200+ (saved me from having to replace it, instead just having to buff out the scratches on the shield or replacing the shield which costs $150 from dealers). And that black on the ninja... omg... sexy! Also, C2W isn't riding a broken in bike... hence why it feels so ridiculously gutless.
Eden Gilady Depends what you want to do... 300cc CBR/Ninja is better preparation for a 600cc super sport from what I've read than a 500cc because of power delivery
15:15 kind of 0-60mph, 0-100kmh. Looks like he's in the medium-high power range, using most of the throttle but maybe not all potential. Next run is better at 17:51. 17:51 another 0-60, 0-100 - genuine max acceleration, gets to 65mph reasonably well. Looks like a good commuting and new rider bike. The lightweight and nimble handling improves safety too because you can change direction in a difficult situation 😀 30 years ago we had 60bhp 250cc such as Suzuki RGV250, Kawasaki KR1S, Aprilia 250. And we had 60bhp 400cc like Honda CBR400RR, Yamaha FZR400RRSP, Kawasaki ZXR400RR, etc. They were the pinnacle of Japanese bikes. They should consider making those again for the European A2 motorcycle licence, as well as for riders who want the feels.

Thanks for the review, It's too bad you didn't enjoy riding it as much as you hoped. I really enjoy riding mine, and I bought it primarily for commuting and the great gas mileage so it's perfect for me. I definitely agree with you on the engine breaking. At high speeds in high gears the engine breaking is nonexistent, but at low speeds in gears 1-3 the engine breaking is almost violent.
Having never been on a motorcycle before as far as operating one is concerned,I can't say I would get bored with this motorcycle. I like the sound of the bike,and I believe I'd be happy on a CBR300R. I ditched the Ninja 300 and R3 in favor of this motorcycle. I hope to have my motorcycle by end of October!
I have one of these, almost 1000km in and the engine feels better I don't know why his one was that slow! I had mine up to 150 km/h or 94m/h and I feel it had a little more perhaps 160km/h
I live in Japan riding this and it's perfect! But not sure if this bike fits other countries because speed limit in Japan is usually pretty low and roads are pretty narrow especially where I live which is Tokyo area.

I don’t agree with 250-300 being pointless. I have a 600 bike, but I’m often in the mood to rev to redline with a 300. When I get the space and money I want a sport bike in all 3 category. 300,600, liter. The 300 might be a ninja 400 thooo 🔥🔥
If you want a bike for grunt, you wouldn't be looking at this but if you want a good highway commuter with great fuel economy, this is probably worth considering. I'm a big fan of single cylinders.
I hate reviews when a guy jumps a on 250 or 300 and talks about the power. These bikes will haul you around just fine for the average joe riding for fun. If you want to race a gixer 750 then level up to that. For fun and for fuel savings these bike are fine. I own a CBR 250 and XT 350 and neither are monsters, but for smiles per gallon they are fun for me.
i just got my first bike honda xr650l it actually makes an excellent street bike it has a cruising speed of around 70mph depending on rider weight and it'll do around 100mph the torque from its big block v8 sized piston is alittle scary but you quickly learn throttle control and its fine. the 650l has a big comfy seat insurance costs are low. makes the nicest angry tiger noises ever. if you are worried that its to tall i'm 5"6 and can comfortably seat on her with the balls of both feet on the ground with a lowering link. its light but just heavy enough to not be blown around by wilds or passing trucks easily. to me its the perfect bike at 346lbs "wet weight" 2,8 gallon tank. it looks like a proper dirt bike but its engine will need its first valve adjustment around the time your buddies on their 450's are doing their 2 full rebuild.
I have 2017 CB300F i love it, first bike with enough power for me and good highway capability. Amazing for around town as well because of its light weight!
I have the honda cbr650f and it has the same horn and turn signal position as the 300 and its annoying when you go to turn and accidentally blow the horn.

Would have to say thank you for your time on this review, I watched half of youtube before this one I was fixed on buying one of these or the naked. But now I'm doing research on the Yamaha R3 or MT-03. I'll be a Learner rider haven't been on a bike since my teens now in my thirtys sick of life shit getting in the way, been dreaming of riding ever since 2016 I'll be back on a bike. Great review.
It has a more upright seating position for beginners which is an issue for taller people, you don't have that lean for the better and closer view of the dashboard.
I been looking at motorcycles for a few years now, but only wanted to either buy a cbr500r,CBR300r,R3, Maybe a FZ10 and or a ninja 300. I am only a teenager in my around first years of becoming a teenager but still see my future of me driving motorcycles
I'm stuck between the Ninja 300, CBR and R3. I would pick the R3 any day but it's so expensive and I'm not sure if for a starter bike that money is worth it.
if it's your starter bike go as CHEAP as possible. if you take care of it, you'll turn it over next year when you want a 500 or 600. can probably sell it for a couple hundred dollars less depending on how many miles you put on it

Any year ninja 250 can break 100MPH. Or should be able too. One of the few 250s you can ride on interstate with little problems. Most other top out at 70 to 80 mph,
hay mate I think you will find a lot of these small street bikes being aimed at beginner rider will have very little engine braking as a safety precaution. the low engine braking means if the rider drops down a couple gears to quickly the back wheel is less likely to lock up and spit them off. I know the kawi 300 even has a slipper clutch to smooth out the down shifts even more. ps these bikes run very low compression to keep power down and longer service intervals compared to a high compression supermoto like a ktm or wr450 which heed oil changes every 15 foot :) this will also lower engine braking. thanks if you read this short story
I have ridden this bike from May through November. I rode over a fast mountain road and a bunch of open state routes - speeds up to 78. It should be able to go 90. I haven't brought it on the highway yet, but I will. My only complaints are the blinker is in an odd position. It's easy to push it for a right turn, but I literally have to angle my entire hand to grab it for a left turn. I have pretty long fingers, too. Additionally, it doesn't pick up speed as fast as I'd like it to.
I totally agree with you Chase. I have a 2012 Honda CBR250R and you grow out of it so damn fast. I wish I had started out on the Honda CBR500R or the Ninja 300. My younger brother is thinking about getting into riding as well so I've been telling him he needs to get a 300 ninja. Love your videos man.
I have mixed reviews about your review. You're entertaining, but this is what I think. A new rider needs to learn how to ride "well" first (if you're "crawling", you shouldn't dream about "running" before you learn how to "walk"). I believe a bike that's not that fast can teach him/her a lot. Later the rider can trade it for a bigger bike. I believe that many people who review these smaller bikes are 600cc or more riders...so obviously you'll find fault with the power of the engine. I wish you had ridden one with ABS brakes.
the ninja that you road had an aftermarket pipe and that is where the extra power comes from . I think the 650 is a better choice as any 300 will become boring as hell fast
a lot of bikes are fun , but what are you going to do when you are on the highway with friends and they have 600s and the likes , you are going to want a bigger bike ,that's what happens to me when I ride my xr 650 supermoto with sports bikes ,I always wish I had rode my FZ1. there is nothing wrong with the 300s and if that is what you want( rock on) its not like its a scooter or something . I think your first bike should be something you can throw on the ground and not care like a supermoto or the likes . i had this for about 2 months and got bored with it made me not want to ride anymore, then i upgraded exhaust and it sounds so good i want to ride it way more
Would you say that this bike would be good for a kid that is in high school so he/she cant get themselves in trouble and might be better for the parents knowing them can do a lot with the bike like wheelies and such.

I rode a Ninja 300 for 9000 miles and almost 2 years before I sold it and after moving on to a ZX-6R and an 800cc adventure bike I'm very close to picking up a CBR300R soon. I'm quite confident that I won't be bored.
Frank Bama What bores me is being able to hit 60 mph in 1st gear. Takes no skill to never need to shift to get up to speed.

I have one of these. First bike. From what I have learned, this thing is really forgiving. And to those saying that it's not enough power, I will say that it's still way faster than my car.

These 300s are such underrated bikes. The fact you can get a brand new, liquid cooled, fuel injected Honda for 4,000 bucks is insane. I've rode a Honda rebel hundreds of miles at a time and I don't even think that's 20 horsepower. Some of the greatest riding I've ever done. I hate the "you'll grow out of it" mentality. Wouldn't everyone be on an h2 after a year or two? If you just keep moving up that's the only stopping point. Decent review but try to think from an every day person's view.
Chase! I live literally 10 minutes from Mountain Motor sports and I know every street you just drove. It's kinda weird and really cool to see the streets around here on a motovloggers channel. Thanks for the review man I am looking at bikes to decide what I want as a first bike. Insurance is really high on sports bikes because I am young so I may get a cruiser. Hope to meet you on the road some day brother ride safe.
Theres nothing wrong with cruisers alot pf vloggers are against them but they are very comfortable and very cheap on insurance

Philip McIntosh I love my Ninja 300... plenty of power once fully broken in for in-town riding, and can manage long trips / highway riding just fine too. I wish I could afford the Ninja 650 insurance rates... but for now, I'm definitely loving my Ninja 300. I do prefer the appearance of the exhaust on the CBR over the Ninja obviously though. But at the same time... I crashed my bike last summer, and that ugly ass shielding over the exhaust saved me $200+ (saved me from having to replace it, instead just having to buff out the scratches on the shield or replacing the shield which costs $150 from dealers). And that black on the ninja... omg... sexy!
Also, C2W isn't riding a broken in bike... hence why it feels so ridiculously gutless.
Yzf r3 is probably the best out of the three, however cbr is the most reliable.

Eden Gilady Depends what you want to do... 300cc CBR/Ninja is better preparation for a 600cc super sport from what I've read than a 500cc because of power delivery
15:15 kind of 0-60mph, 0-100kmh. Looks like he's in the medium-high power range, using most of the throttle but maybe not all potential. Next run is better at 17:51.
17:51 another 0-60, 0-100 - genuine max acceleration, gets to 65mph reasonably well.
Looks like a good commuting and new rider bike. The lightweight and nimble handling improves safety too because you can change direction in a difficult situation 😀
30 years ago we had 60bhp 250cc such as Suzuki RGV250, Kawasaki KR1S, Aprilia 250. And we had 60bhp 400cc like Honda CBR400RR, Yamaha FZR400RRSP, Kawasaki ZXR400RR, etc. They were the pinnacle of Japanese bikes.
They should consider making those again for the European A2 motorcycle licence, as well as for riders who want the feels.
Is there a reason why you were comparing it to the Ninja and didn't mention the R3?

rockafella1690 Because what i've been noticing lately is that his videos are not in sync. He probably test rode this bike before the R3, and honestly. They look old. His lives in Atlanta like i do. But this video looks like Spring is just starting or something.
Thanks for the review, It's too bad you didn't enjoy riding it as much as you hoped. I really enjoy riding mine, and I bought it primarily for commuting and the great gas mileage so it's perfect for me.
I definitely agree with you on the engine breaking. At high speeds in high gears the engine breaking is nonexistent, but at low speeds in gears 1-3 the engine breaking is almost violent.
I have a friend who has an R6 I sat on it and honestly I loved how slim my 250r was.

Having never been on a motorcycle before as far as operating one is concerned,I can't
say I would get bored with this motorcycle. I like the sound of the bike,and I believe I'd be happy on a CBR300R. I ditched the Ninja 300 and R3 in favor of this motorcycle. I hope to have my motorcycle by end of October!
I have one of these, almost 1000km in and the engine feels better I don't know why his one was that slow!
I had mine up to 150 km/h or 94m/h and I feel it had a little more perhaps 160km/h

I live in Japan riding this and it's perfect!
But not sure if this bike fits other countries because speed limit in Japan is usually pretty low and roads are pretty narrow especially where I live which is Tokyo area.

I don’t agree with 250-300 being pointless. I have a 600 bike, but I’m often in the mood to rev to redline with a 300. When I get the space and money I want a sport bike in all 3 category. 300,600, liter. The 300 might be a ninja 400 thooo 🔥🔥

If you want a bike for grunt, you wouldn't be looking at this but if you want a good highway commuter with great fuel economy, this is probably worth considering. I'm a big fan of single cylinders.
I hate reviews when a guy jumps a on 250 or 300 and talks about the power. These bikes will haul you around just fine for the average joe riding for fun. If you want to race a gixer 750 then level up to that. For fun and for fuel savings these bike are fine. I own a CBR 250 and XT 350 and neither are monsters, but for smiles per gallon they are fun for me.

i just got my first bike honda xr650l it actually makes an excellent street bike it has a cruising speed of around 70mph depending on rider weight and it'll do around 100mph the torque from its big block v8 sized piston is alittle scary but you quickly learn throttle control and its fine. the 650l has a big comfy seat insurance costs are low. makes the nicest angry tiger noises ever. if you are worried that its to tall i'm 5"6 and can comfortably seat on her with the balls of both feet on the ground with a lowering link. its light but just heavy enough to not be blown around by wilds or passing trucks easily. to me its the perfect bike at 346lbs "wet weight" 2,8 gallon tank. it looks like a proper dirt bike but its engine will need its first valve adjustment around the time your buddies on their 450's are doing their 2 full rebuild.
Its my daily bike !!! Love it

For the price of a Ninja 300 you could get a used CBR500. It's a weird price per performance going on.
I have 2017 CB300F i love it, first bike with enough power for me and good highway capability. Amazing for around town as well because of its light weight!
I have the honda cbr650f and it has the same horn and turn signal position as the 300 and its annoying when you go to turn and accidentally blow the horn.

Would have to say thank you for your time on this review, I watched half of youtube before this one I was fixed on buying one of these or the naked. But now I'm doing research on the Yamaha R3 or MT-03. I'll be a Learner rider haven't been on a bike since my teens now in my thirtys sick of life shit getting in the way, been dreaming of riding ever since 2016 I'll be back on a bike. Great review.
It has a more upright seating position for beginners which is an issue for taller people, you don't have that lean for the better and closer view of the dashboard.
I been looking at motorcycles for a few years now, but only wanted to either buy a cbr500r,CBR300r,R3, Maybe a FZ10 and or a ninja 300. I am only a teenager in my around first years of becoming a teenager but still see my future of me driving motorcycles

I'm stuck between the Ninja 300, CBR and R3. I would pick the R3 any day but it's so expensive and I'm not sure if for a starter bike that money is worth it.
if it's your starter bike go as CHEAP as possible. if you take care of it, you'll turn it over next year when you want a 500 or 600. can probably sell it for a couple hundred dollars less depending on how many miles you put on it

Any year ninja 250 can break 100MPH. Or should be able too. One of the few 250s you can ride on interstate with little problems. Most other top out at 70 to 80 mph,
This will be my first bike purchase. Getting my motorcycle permit Wednesday. Hopefully find a used one for a good deal.
hay mate I think you will find a lot of these small street bikes being aimed at beginner rider will have very little engine braking as a safety precaution. the low engine braking means if the rider drops down a couple gears to quickly the back wheel is less likely to lock up and spit them off. I know the kawi 300 even has a slipper clutch to smooth out the down shifts even more. ps these bikes run very low compression to keep power down and longer service intervals compared to a high compression supermoto like a ktm or wr450 which heed oil changes every 15 foot :) this will also lower engine braking.

I have ridden this bike from May through November. I rode over a fast mountain road and a bunch of open state routes - speeds up to 78. It should be able to go 90. I haven't brought it on the highway yet, but I will. My only complaints are the blinker is in an odd position. It's easy to push it for a right turn, but I literally have to angle my entire hand to grab it for a left turn. I have pretty long fingers, too. Additionally, it doesn't pick up speed as fast as I'd like it to.
I think the big horn button is a Honda CBR thing. I have a CBR 500 and have definitely accidentaly honked at people when doing a turn or lane switch.

I totally agree with you Chase. I have a 2012 Honda CBR250R and you grow out of it so damn fast. I wish I had started out on the Honda CBR500R or the Ninja 300. My younger brother is thinking about getting into riding as well so I've been telling him he needs to get a 300 ninja. Love your videos man.

I have mixed reviews about your review. You're entertaining, but this is what I think. A new rider needs to learn how to ride "well" first (if you're "crawling", you shouldn't dream about "running" before you learn how to "walk"). I believe a bike that's not that fast can teach him/her a lot. Later the rider can trade it for a bigger bike. I believe that many people who review these smaller bikes are 600cc or more riders...so obviously you'll find fault with the power of the engine. I wish you had ridden one with ABS brakes.
I'm debating between this or the cb300f, this will be my second bike, upgrading from a 70cc Honda Passport.
the ninja that you road had an aftermarket pipe and that is where the extra power comes from . I think the 650 is a better choice as any 300 will become boring as hell fast
Flying Ryan I disagree when it comes to something like the R3. I loved that little thing.
a lot of bikes are fun , but what are you going to do when you are on the highway with friends and they have 600s and the likes , you are going to want a bigger bike ,that's what happens to me when I ride my xr 650 supermoto with sports bikes ,I always wish I had rode my FZ1. there is nothing wrong with the 300s and if that is what you want( rock on) its not like its a scooter or something . I think your first bike should be something you can throw on the ground and not care like a supermoto or the likes . Get a KTM RC390 or an FZ-07. The Ninja 650 is less sporty than the ninja 300. More upright and more of a sport-tourer
i had this for about 2 months and got bored with it made me not want to ride anymore, then i upgraded exhaust and it sounds so good i want to ride it way more

Would you say that this bike would be good for a kid that is in high school so he/she cant get themselves in trouble and might be better for the parents knowing them can do a lot with the bike like wheelies and such.
