    Cliff, as always great to get another look. I see you have switched out machines I guess between home shop and van... The Viel is gone, the Consew HF that was the fine belt. I imagine I'm not alone in studying your videos! I waited 2 months for a Viel S9 angle guide ( they seem to be pretty far behind with their stuff,) then had to improvise an extension to the platten because it was so much bigger than I'd guessed. I have wished for a local small job machine shop to do things like fabricate a longer, more solid platten. The unit with the leather belt looks like one from China I've seen on Amazon, but runs around $400 if I remember. Crowning the drive wheel worked a charm. Thanks again. Rix

    • @CurryCustomCutlery

      Yeah always shuffling things around...some get retired to backup status. Eventually they all just start looking like motors turning belts.

    Hi Cliff, wonderful info as always! Can you elaborate on your power setup? Do you run the whole day at the market on just the two golf batteries, or do you run a generator or plug in sometimes? How do you charge the batteries and how long will it last with constant use? I see all the lights on in the van, and I know you go non stop some days. Thanks for all the great videos, you have taught us all quite a lot! Nick

    • @CurryCustomCutlery
      @CurryCustomCutlery  6 дней назад

      When the setup was fresh batteries could last for up to 4hrs without turning on the van to start recharging.
      Lights are led so low power draw. When I start the van in charges the batteries. Simple

    Oh I've been waiting for this one for a while, thanks Cliff!
    I got my Aliexpress 1x30 like yours, LOVE IT. I'm really stoked. It's a bit expensive for what it is, and the manufacturer doesn't put much care into making sure components don't get little nicks and dings. Also the wheels need to be crowned, mine had problems until I put a few layers of tape on the drive and tracking wheel.
    But with all that said, I love it. It's going in the boot and becoming my first mobile rig in the next few weeks.

    • @CurryCustomCutlery

      Aloha Mitchell, I couldnt agree more. Some different steps often done to get to same ending. I still change up my routine mostly to keep flexible I will use felt for a few months then switch to leather to season a new belt. I had just flipped to smooth side to give it a run with emultion but my goto is fuzzy side out with a touch of compound then 3u emulsion for the day. Leaves me smiling...cheers!

    • @CurryCustomCutlery
      @CurryCustomCutlery  Год назад +4

      You are correct the bench grinder spin down towards your feet. Its mostly a sharpener that you have the wheel spin away and you work on the top part horizontally. It is a point that we try to emphasize with both belts and wheels you MUST be sure at all times what direction it is spinning and if its safe to go edge leading or trailing into it.

    • @CurryCustomCutlery
      @CurryCustomCutlery  Год назад +3

      Without a doubt...and its still just one guys opinion. I completely believe the 1" belt is best for sharpening. Having said that I also think a 2" wide machine is a requirement to do heavy work like thinning and reprofiling.
      I know I dodged your question but I also dont think the machine matters. Its just a motor turning a belt.

    • @CurryCustomCutlery
