For me that’s one thing that brought me to the series. Momo being a tomboyish girl knowing what she wants - while still being just a girl. It’s so refreshing to read (in this case watch) characters do and say stuff normal people also would, without the same weird old anime tropes.

And that's not just my opinion: in an interview sequence before the DanDaDan pre-screening in theaters, there's a segment specifically addressing the fact that the author chose to make the female lead a gyaru, which is an archetype he'd never written before but thought would be fun in a romcom contrasted against an otaku.
Momo is also a Gyaru/Gal just not the same type as her friend with the insane makeup who is a "Ganguro" Gal. Which explains her outifits/why her skirt is short and how she acts.
So after hearing about this anime I read the manga and Ken Takakura that Momo likes is a famous (deceased) old actor in Japan. They even drew his picture next to her ex boyfriend to point out that they look alike. According to someone Ken is essentially the Clint Eastwood of Japan.

What's wild is that granny's solicitation (my teats for your shlong) is a bait tactic she uses for a reason in the backstory. Only in Dandadaan where a granny has a reason to gobble schlongs.
Just by the by, they tone it back with the uncomfortable sexualizing after around this point in the manga. It might bleed into ep. 2 (3 max I'd imagine), but the mangaka figured out what was a bit too much pretty quick. Don't get me wrong, basically the entirety of the manga run is batshit insane of roughly equal proportion to this - just isn't quite so uncomfortable to look at as an adult lol.
Personally, I think they front-loaded all the sexual stuff to filter out the sensitive readers so the rest of us could have fun with the entire manga. Though it's a pretty well-known business trick with manga to start out with something a bit ecchi because it gets people talking. You see the same thing happen with Undead Unluck and Soul Eater.

Gooners spend a surprisingly large amount of money, so if you attract them in the first few chapters, you will sell enough copies that your series won’t get axed. Sex sells after all. It’s the same reason why a lot of VNs have sex scenes. The Fate stay/night VN famously only had sex scenes because the author was forced to, and they are infamously poorly written because the author didn’t want to do them (he made someone else write the sex scenes in the sequel lol). Edit: also, keep in mind that Shounen is marketed towards teenage boys, who are the horniest creatures on the planet (coming from a former teenage boy). Best way to market to them is sex, violence, and explosions (which is why the Michael Bay Transformers movies sold so well).

I think the "sex sells" mindset was either attempting to be utilized, or was potentially pushed onto the author. For whatever reason, it seems the mangaka wanted to take a brutally real tone with the subject matter if overly sexually charged stuff was going to be involved. Could either be as a means of making sure the audience is prepared to go into the story with the ability to handle some heavy themes, or if it really was a more coerced decision maybe it was because he didn't want to forcefully alter the trajectory of any of the characters and so decided to stay thematically relevant. My 2 cents.
