  • So, Billie and I began referring to this box of spiders as the "Heart Attack Pack" because it contained several fast, potentially defensive old wold tarantulas (and one other surprise!). However, it's a joke as I didn't expect, nor did I get, any issues with these lovely spiders!
    A HUGE thank you to Matt Meyer for the sp. Akcaya and to the Fear Not Team.

    Lol appreciate the kind words Tom. Hopefully you'll have as good of a time raising the little monsters as I do. The whole genus is criminally underrated and for the longest time, their prices have been inhibitive to most collectors.
    I aim to change that, however if I'm going to try to increase their availability at a lower price point, I need to increase the readily available knowledge on their care to ensure my efforts to establish the species stateside aren't in vain. That's where you come in sir, so this is much more of a quid pro quo situation then a gift 😊. Thanks Tom and the FNT team.

      @@TomsBigSpiders, anytime sir. I'll likely reach out on AB in the coming weeks to finish a discussion I started on the dangers of CO2 pooling in the comment section of your last Aphonopelma video (I can't put visuals in YT comments). The problem is magnified with moisture dependent fossorials as there are exponentially more CO2 producing micro organisms and soil fauna in moist substrate than in dry substrate. We may agree to disagree in the end upon a measurable health impact to the animals, but I'm willing to bet I can completely change your perspective on ventilation placement and impact.
      In regards to producing Phormingochilus spp, I have Sabah Blue lined up for the end of this year, everetti will go early next year, Sabah Dwarf should line up at the end of next year, Sabah Red might line up late next year, pennellhewlettorum will likely be late next year (I produced those earlier this year), and Akcaya will likely line up again then too.

    Your idea of putting some clutter in the rehousing bin save me from losing a huntsman sling and a P cambridgei, it still took me some time to find them because I was using moss instead of paper towel (which was the exact same color as the huntsman) plus the cambridgei snuck into a vial and squished itself so unbelievably tiny, I just kept overlooking it thinking it was moss and dirt 😂 But I was so thankful they were both still in the bin instead of loose in my house!

    The Akcaya is one of my bucket list spiders. Unfortunately my sling just passed yesterday. Nice spiders and I like the name you gave the pack. The nearest pet store to me that sells exotics has had a C. minax and a S. calceatum for a couple years now, and I've been waiting till I own a home to pick them up. Not comfortable keeping "heart attack pack" species in a rental property just to be safe in case of the highly unlikely event of any escapes. But I expect the spiders will still be available within the year as they don't seem to be going anywhere.

    I've had my feather leg for about 6 months and I can tell you she is really fast. The good news is I think a barber's growth enclosure will be great for her forever home. The fun part's going to be getting her in there of course. If and since I've been working with this one, I can definitely say I am now ready for an OBT so I'm going to make that a Halloween present to myself. And I'm definitely interested in the bat eater sorry I can't spell that scientific name. Anyway, great show great podcast. I do appreciate all the information.

    • @scottphelps6769
      @scottphelps6769 10 дней назад

      @@TomsBigSpiders they've got three different sizes that I've seen and I'm sure that you could turn the largest size kind of like a terrestrial enclosure into more like an arboreal just by having several cork tubes. I've got the largest one they offer on Amazon The 20x10x11 and that's what I have my Colombian giant red leg in I'm about to place an order for their medium and another large one. The reason I was thinking the barbarous growth enclosure might be a little easier to deal with feeding and watering would be because it has that little feeder spot. Currently my feather leg is in a 20 oz screw top deli cup which makes feeding very interesting to say the least. So it's time for something a little easier lol. Just not sure whether to put her in the medium or the large one at the moment but that order comes in next week.

    Great viewing and the feather leg lived up to its reputation even as a sling. This is a real brave box of hate lol. I spent half the day yesterday plucking up the courage to rehouse my spicy OBT and blow me, she just wondered out of the old home into the new one. I was surprised she didn’t stop and ask for a cup of tea haha. It just goes to show it depends on the individual spider. Got my 3 juvie h Mac to do next but I’m not letting my guard down with them.

    Cyriopagopus in general are so underrated. I've got 2 Hati Hati slings that I am currently raising like Omothymus species. If I remember right the name means "Hurt hurt" or caution, due to the potent venom.
    I've got a big female S. calceatum that is awesome. She laid a sac so I am currently incubating that. If you want more than one, let me know 😂

      I think that hati by itself means "heart" and hati hati translates to "caution" or "be careful" or something like that? Who knows. haha And thanks!

    I love my cats, my tarantulas, even centipedes. But I also know that my cats would kill the centipede quickly

      They will quickly kill tarantulas, too. It happens far too much.

    Nice bro I'm working with a lot of cool Ornithoctoninae right now. Phormingochilus sp sabah dwarf, Ornithoctoninae sp hai bia, Cyriopagopus schmidti "phong na-ke bang", Ornithoctoninae sp ranong blue, Ornithoctoninae sp Vietnam highland, Ornithoctoninae sp veronica, Ornithoctoninae sp nhen dep, Ornithoctoninae sp ho chi minh, among about a dozen others

      I'm definitely going to have to pick up more species from the genus. I've raised up a few over the years, but I tend to get males. You've got an awesome collection of them there!
