  • This 7.3 Powerstroke F250 SuperDuty was bought for $500 from an auto repair shop. The original owner abandoned it more than 6 years ago. No one remembers why it was left there. Can we get it running? Why was it abandoned in the first place?

      The key to that is they didn’t know it ran when they bought it for $500…this deal could have just as easily (and FAR more likely) have gone the other way and ended up with the truck having holes in pistons, a bad trans and badly worn out engine, etc, etc…usually when you pay 10% or less of what a vehicle is usually worth it’s because the person selling it doesn’t have the time and or means to mess with it…it may be a minor fix, or it may be major. But anyone going around buying the cheapest non-running diesel trucks out there assuming it’s always gonna be a minor thing just because “diesels run forever” is gonna get burned sooner rather than later…the only big question is can you afford to get burned?

    Great work fellas! If these trucks have a hard start like this after being run low or out of oil, I like to pull the 5/8” plugs on the heads and add oil to the oil rails. Usually helps the process along. Ford manual also says to drive the truck aggressively after the oil system has been open or if the suspicion of oil aeration is there! Keep up the good work👍🏼

    They stopped using the fender powerstroke badges mid-way through december of 1998. My 1999 F-350 was built 12/98 (exact date was 12/21/98) and it has the door badges instead of the fender badges. It was one of the first 100 trucks that is a late ‘99 but it still shares some of the early ‘99 parts on it like the front driveshaft being a saginaw double cardin joint versus a spicer one and it had (keyword had) the shorter front rotors and wheel bearings on it until i converted it to the 3/99 style rotors and wheel bearings. It came from the factory with the late ‘99 turbo, spider, and up-pipes. Hope this clears up any confusion!

      On these I always dump the fuel bowl and pour in ATF before trying to start, it lubes up the injectors good. Ive came across many with bad fuel pumps and clogged tanks/lines/bad selector valves all sorts of stupid stuff for no starts. Also always keep a spare CPS on hand. I don't use apple stuff but I have the BASF OBDII adapter and several programs as well as the nexiq usb link setup. I keep a cheap inline fuel pump on hand to plumb into the fuel bowl bypassing the onboard pump/tank when dealing with no start without smoke.

    I bought a 2000 F350 CCLB 4wd for $1k a couple years ago. Has a transmission issue where it won’t go into drive or reverse once hot, after you put it into park. It’s got 420k on the clock, zero blow by, mint interior, AC and heat work. Glow plugs likely need to be replaced as well as injectors, but it runs good and has a lot of rust, but with a little more work it will be a solid DD. I think your buddy did good.

    362k would be due for a new turbo and maybe injectors soon. I deleted my Exhaust Back Pressure Valve actuator and welded up the port where the butterfly was located. I was sick of the oil leak from the actuator. The 7.3L is notorious for rupturing that High pressure line on the Power steering line due to vibration and rub thru/chaffing/abrasion. Best to add a piece of garden hose to the outside of the hose when it is replaced to protect it.

      If you're talking about the ForSCAN app, I don't see it available in the store anymore either. Since I've previously downloaded it, I can re-download it on devices. You can get the Windows app from them too. Also, if you're just wanting to see information without having bi-directional control, you can download the TorquePro app. Once you get it installed, you can add the predefined PIDs for Ford Powerstroke. That'll let you see everything as well. Plus it looks nifty.

    I just have to know I have looked all over the internet and can't find a definite answer to my question so I'm trying to figure out what is the largest tire I can run on my 2001 V10 Triton F250 lariat 4x4 stock height with 16x8 rims? I appreciate any input but I don't want to cut or trim and no rubbing

    • @ProjectTimeGarage
      @ProjectTimeGarage  Год назад +2

      Well, I do know that the factory tire size is about 34" tall. That being said, there's very little offset to the factory wheels and the factory tires aren't very wide. I know for a fact that wider 35's will rub when turning, plus there's not much fender gap. I have pictures of my '03 F350 with 35x14.50x20 (just before doing my leveling kit) and it didn't look good in the front. I would say to be safe maybe 33x12.50 or so would be a safe bet.

      @@Popeye85 I worked for a power line clearing company that ran a fleet of F-350 crew cabs. We each towed an ASV 4810 positrac with a massive mower deck. They were at least 10k and a big trailer to haul them. All the trucks had leveling only and 35s. They worked and articulated really well considering the weight we were hauling on power line access roads. I think the only modification to the wheel well was a slight trim to the front bumper corner. Not even noticeable.

    A late 99 production year date makes the truck a 2000. My 2003 6.0 has a production date of late 2002, but there was never a 2002 6.0. You can look at I believe either the 7th or 10th digit of the vin (don’t quote me on which digit) and that will give you the model year of the truck.

      2003.5 was the cutoff for 7.3/6.0 switch. So u can have an " 2003" year date with either. Just fyi. Also the early 99 side gender badge isn't always 100% acurate for determining e'99 from l'99....I had an early 99 with fender badge even tho it was an 'early'. The intake spider is the easiest way to visually see which one you have. Intake spider is smaller on e99, and doesn't have an air intake heater on the front of it, not the relay for it(2nd relay next to glow plug relay on top of pass valve cover). E99 is a smaller got no but has a 'better' ('wicked wheel') in it=louder turbo😊😊. Wish I could find a deal like that, I thought $1000 was really good for my 2000 xl eclb 7.3 zf6, 2wd only, western NY(rusty) former construction company truck(a lot of idle hrs) that had like 250I on it.
