Yeah, the moment I heard the king, I understood why Link doubted the boy’s talk about kings. Breath of the wild’s king really messed up with how he treated his own daughter. And by the time he realized that…well…the rest is history…😔
This king kept scolding Zelda for everything she does besides training: going to the springs, studying the guardians, and if he is alive in Totk he would trash Zelda even harder than Sonia and that Zonai sage for taking the decision of becoming a dragon
But then his spirit remaining in botw he regrets in front of Link that he did trash his daughter carelessly and begs Link to correct his mistake in his behalf
I understand why both Links have opposite taste about kings: Wind Waker Link had his king treat him like a beloved son and BOTW Link took that tyranty vision of kings due to him seeing the king scolding Zelda every time she does anything besides training!
Honestly, everyone here is a bit too harsh on King Rhoam. It’s true he could have been a better parent, but at the same time he was under immense pressure to prepare Hyrule for Calamity Ganon’s coming, which would completely fail without Zelda’s power awakening. In his journal, he even recognised he’d been too harsh and planned on fixing things with Zelda. Unfortunately the Calamity happened before he could do that.
Look at age of calamity as well, we see the more father side of the king, the way he lies his life down against the hoard of guardians to protect his daughter and then there's the great plateau mission end cutscene, need I say more

Basically.
Well except for his diary, one day before it all falls down
@rudysarmiento8700 you mean that in his diary he wasn't ashamed at all for trashing his daughter?
I'm a simple man. When I see a Linked Universe comic dub, I click it.

That right there is character development. I’ve never been great at it myself, but this was excellent.
