Here in Texas people have been rocking nemesis for a while now. I would say probably 2016-20 14 something like that. But yeah, they tend to be the go-to speaker here in Dallas for those who don't know too much about car audio. Most of the audio shops here carry Nemesis kicker sundown DB drive. If you have a truck more than likely you will see these or some sundowns under the back seat

Exactly. A few shops tried to push them on me. I stuck with DB, because I wasn't sure about Nemesis. They look impressive though in person. They definitely hefty.

@@Chuck_Sanders I know the fs is only the free air resonance of the sub and can be altered by the box .. and Yada yada.. but something seems off with this design.. I'd honestly have to look at the mms .I'm no speaker designer, But if that's infact really a carbon cone, it seems likely to me the spider pack may contain more mass than the cone itself..

@@Chuck_Sanders me either on the big surround.. not once I learned how subwoofers actually function.. most sub brands that actually do r&d spend hours trying to perfect a tall/narrow. Like dd and Rockfords vast. It adds cone area, keeps linear, etc. BUT ... to the avg person they look and go "ewww ahhh big bad sub'. " big excursions ".. and it sells..

    Is it a good subwoofer?

  • @jdlech

Here's a real kick to the head. With an spl of 82.2 db, the maximum spl of this sub will be 111.74 db @ 900W RMS. But if I find a sub rated with an spl of 92.2 db, I can get the same maximum spl of 111.74 using only 90W RMS. (ceteris paribus)
Now, 92.2 db sensitivity is admittedly pretty high. So let's tame it down a little bit by looking for a much more realistic 90 db sensitivity. In this case, I would still only need ~150W to produce the same 111.74 db maximum spl.. While finding amps that produce an actual 900W RMS is generally a hit and miss affair, (you should never rely on the "liars sheets" the manufacturer provides. Only dyno testing the amp will give you reliable results), 150W RMS amps are "a dime a dozen" these days. Plus, a 900W amp will generally kill your battery much faster than a 150W amp. I say "generally" because there are plenty of exceptions and different class amps have wildly different efficiencies.
This is why sensitivity matters so much, and why a smart guy can build a better system than a rich guy on half, or even a third the budget. Indeed, it only took me about 10 minutes on Google to find a $70 8" sub with 90db sensitivity and claiming a 500W RMS power handling. (I doubt the 500W claim, but I would believe it can handle 150W with ease). It took me longer to do the math to write this post than to find a suitable substitute for just a bit more than a third the price.
That is not to say the Nemesis is not an impressive sub. The build quality with 3 spiders is very impressive. And I believe it really can handle those 900Watts and more for a very long time. Very much unlike the cheap subs one can typically find for under $100 (wink wink).

Real world testing is the only facts worth using every single time, if you want the actually honest truth about the product being tested.
