People who take good care of themselves can preserve youth well into their fifties and sixties, but by the end of it the pressure of time is ridiculously strong. These people have been forcing time along since their twenties and already look old at 30.

The way Lexi speaks in her video with such a condescending voice was so off putting, I physically recoiled from it. People don't have to pretend that obesity has no negative health effects, everyone deserves equal treatment and healthcare regardless of their weight. Obesity has risks, I think fat liberationists should just embrace that. Pretending obesity is harmless hurts the cause imo.

Its so dumb because why cant someone think they dont want to be with someone who can be ill, who can have lots of health problems, who might not have the same lifestyle as you, like thats why people have preferences and such in partnerships. They want to equate their obesity to a non changeable physical fact as your skin color or the shape of your knees, girl, your weight is not only a visual physical attribute, it has some other things attached to it, its not that you are just fat but eat healthy, are fit and so on, its not compatible.

It is true that black and Hispanic women are more likely to be obese because they don’t cook or choose healthy foods. They blame food stamps for having no excess to healthy food and yet go to Walmart and use taxpayers money to fill their carts with junk food. Produce aisle is right there so choose something green. It has nothing to do with race but subcultures and family upbringings.

@@lug358 it's also stupid because you can have a preference against a group of people without hating that group of people. I'm going to use a stupid example, but it illustrates my point. If I don't want to date Britney Spears fans because I prefer metal music and only want to date someone who only listens to metal, it's well within my right to have that preference and it doesn't mean that I hate people who listen to Britney Spears just because I don't want to date them.

I was 400 lbs at 37, I had spinal stenosis, I couldn't even stand upright, diabetes, high blood pressure, my legs had to be wrapped because of edema and oozed fluids, heart palpitations with arrythmia, and I had passed out from arrythmia and fractured my kneecaps, I was dying basically or at least looking at a future of bed ridden .. I lost 250 lbs in a little over 16 months, on the original 1970's Atkins low carb diet, and by 40 I had a baby girl, hiked the pacific coast trail end to end, and today I'm 63 yrs. old, 160 lbs., and haven't seen a Dr. in over 10 years.. As a nurse , this is why it’s frustrating when I hear women in the HAES movement talk about how there weight is always a topic when dealing with the health care industry. Obesity can have systemic consequences to the body . In healthcare we are trained to always start with the least invasive treatment and move forward accordingly. So if someone comes in that’s obese complaining of knee pain, first advice would be to loose weight through a healthy diet , and low impact exercise like swimming. I wouldn’t advise let’s amputate. Also this is a ADDICTION . They are using food as a coping mechanism. It would be like someone who smokes saying it’s not harmful because they don’t currently have lung cancer . No I would not call that healthy. Body Positivity should be about accepting people and ourselves no matter where we are in life , while not glorifying unhealthy behaviors.

To me, body positivity should be about accepting that we are all beautiful. Beauty standards are so harsh on people, and everybody deserves to feel like they look good. Fat and obese people deserve to feel respected and beautiful even at their fattest. People with anorexia deserve to have a space to heal their bodies and to feel beautiful. People with disabilities, imperfect bodies, heavily muscled bodies, heavily skinny or with stretch marks or a flat butt or a flat chest deserve to feel beautiful. It does not mean we should glorify health issues.
It breaks my heart when I see videos from people who lost weight talking about how subhuman they were treated because they were fat, because it really highlights how unfairly we treat those who are not conventionally beautiful. That's why body positivity took off so much initially--but then it turned to fat acceptance because of the fat people who now had an excuse to not change their addiction. Body neutrality is where it's at now.

Yep. And the thing people don't talk about is that preferences can be harmful, it depends on the REASON you have them. If you just don't consider fat or obese people your type because excess body weight looks bad to you, that's valid and makes sense. If you prefer white people to all people of color because you think all people of color are ugly by default, you may have to address some kind of racism in you that considers "white" the beauty standard. Yes, preferences are valid, but we need to address the reasons behind those preferences. It's crazy to compare just not liking how fat looks (same thing as having a preference for blonde women, or for men with Roman noses, or people with beards) to possibly having a preference rooted in racist beliefs.

I ended up marrying someone who has an active job, is closer to the low side of a healthy weight (lol), we go out hiking and horseback riding and kayaking, and all sorts of other things, has never played a video game in his life I dont think (hes in his 50s so thats probably a pretty true statement, other than maybe playing mario with his kids when they were... kids lol), didnt even own a tv when he met me (we only watch it about an hour at night before bed - i couldnt tell you the last time i turned on the tv in the family room lol), and prefers home cooked healthy meals over fast food any day of the week. While I am friends with many obese people, including my best friend, I dont know any of them who would enjoy my LIFESTYLE. So you're absolutely right. I've also yo-yo'ed crazily, losing and regaining 100+ pounds four times. I started experiencing health complications in my late 20's, including diabetes. I currently have diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and at least seven other health conditions that are caused and/or negatively impacted by weight. At times when I managed to take off a lot of weight, all of my issues went into remission. The scariest thing, and what I think can add to this conversation that i havent seen discussed before, is that all of my weight-related conditions returned FASTER and MORE SEVERELY each time I started regaining. Currently I have a BMI berween 27 and 28 (not even obese), and yet my health problems rival those of the patients on "My 600-Pound Life." There's a life lesson in my story that I wished I had learned long, long ago.

I know a lot about spinal issues - I have several congenital spinal issues including moderate scoliosis (45 degrees), spondylolisthesis and a pars defect. I weighed about 120 pounds at the time of all my diagnoses. The surgeon said to me point blank that maintaining a health weight would be crucial for me avoiding surgery. I didn't listen and gained about 40 pounds over the years. Not obese by any means, but not a healthy weight.
I was fine for years and then I threw my back out twice in about six months in my early 30s. Six months of PT and I lost 40 pounds and now I'm pain free again. It's no surprise to me that a ton of FAs are having issues in their 30s - that's when it caught up to me and I wasn't even obese. My spine is not normal, but I have no pain. Weight and spinal issues are so closely linked. Claiming otherwise is straight denial.
If I hadn't lost the weight, I would have likely needed spinal fusion surgery. There is no turning back from that. I'd need revisions every 10 years, and there's no guarantee it would help my pain. Or I could just accept physics and recognize that extra weight on my spine all the time is harmful. Seemed pretty simple to me.

I think the thing she neglect to realize is people can’t always control a preference. I know people who are really only attracted to heavier people. It’s no different than somebody who is not attracted to heavy people. Physical attraction is the first step towards building a relationship, whether we like to admit that or not. If you don’t have basic physical attraction to a person, you’re really wasting everybody’s time by pursuing a relationship with them. Racism is when you hate somebody for the color of their skin. Not because you happen to not find someone attractive.

    • @Vexarax

I’m sure you probably wouldn’t be so understanding of someone who said “I’m only attracted to women who are as thin as skeletons. I literally can’t help it - I can only have a relationship with a woman who doesn’t eat”
Being attracted to obesity is not only just as bad, it’s actually worse because currently obesity related illnesses cause the highest mortality rate in all the Western world. Higher than drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, and yes, starvation.
I’m an alcoholic (I’ve cut down massively) but it would be like if someone was only attracted to me for my illness. It’s no different.

"Exploring treatment options". Let me guess...not one of them is losing weight. Treating the symptoms instead of the cause. She's 32? Yeah. It catches up as that woman on Dr. Phil said it would.
I was 53 years old, 204 lbs and starting to go through menopause (don't even get me started!). My lower back was always hurting (I'd fallen on my tailbone many times over the years, so the extra weight made it hurt all the time) my knee joints always hurt and I would become winded going up the stairs at a snail's pace. I had gone to the doctor for my pre-menopausal symptoms and when I stepped on the scale and it read about 20 lbs more than I expected, I lost it. I started crying and just fell apart. I was done.
And of course the fact that I was going through the change meant my female hormones, such as estrogen which helps fight fat efficiently, was depleting while my Cortisol levels (a stress hormone that will store fat) were rising. I was a mess. I got committed on that day and I lost a little more than 85 lbs. It was hard, really hard to lose that weight, but so many of those issues are no longer issues. I have occasional old lady joint pain, especially in my knees, but nothing like I did before. I eat so much healthier, bulk up on protein (older women need more for maintaining and building lost muscle mass) and exercise (especially weight/strength training) daily and can honestly say that at age 58, I am in better shape than when I was 28.
She needs to get serious, just as all these other fat positivity obese influencers do, if they want to even make it to my age. They're deluding themselves if they think they can be morbidly obese and healthy at the same time.

While for me, the pain is going to be lifelong, I have been told to maintain my current weight. Knowing that weight gain could worsen my pain, I refuse to put on excess weight as best I can. While I completely understand the chronic pain, the best thing to do with spinal stenosis is to keep moving, keep moving the body and strengthen it if you can.
If she continues on, she might worsen her symptoms, now is probably the time if any to try and take some level of control of her body before other conditions flare up and make life even harder for her.

I’m not as overweight as she is, but I’m the same age, and I could start to sense that I could no longer use the “lol I’m still young and vibrant” excuse to carry around 100 extra pounds without really caring. Now I’m back at the gym and even though it’s only been a month, I already feel so much stronger and VASTLY less depressed. The material circumstances of my life have not changed much, but this time last year I was thinking about how much I wanted to, uh, clock out of my life shift before it was over, let’s say… I’m still broke and stressed about the same life stuff, but I find myself being in a good mood for no reason. I feel full of energy, household chores are easier, I got artistic inspiration for the first time in a year and a half, and the negativity of others doesn’t affect me as much. I’m not sure how much of that is just from the gym and how much of that is just putting more and more distance between the time I had COVID (it really messed me up bad), but I have also met some lovely people at the gym, and the trainers who teach the two classes I go to are awesome. I have a few more sessions left with a nutritionist at my gym, and I’d like to start working with a registered dietician soon, but for now, things are truly on the up-and-up. My one regret is that I didn’t get serious sooner, because I do wonder how much insurmountable permanent damage I’ve done to myself at this point (that class is fun for all of me except my knees, ya know…) but we’ll cross those bridges when they come. I wish the best for Lexi, and I hope she sees now how her excess weight is at least SOME of the reason why all this is happening.

John, I hope you see this comment. We have talked some in the past but I haven't been open about my history before losing weight. As I've told you in the past, I've lost 200+ lbs. I'm still, and will forever be, on a wellness/health journey.
My history: I am a 58-year-old mother of 2 and grandmother of 3. I've been married most of my adult life, this year it will be 40 years! I am a Registered Nurse. (So yes, I knew better)
Before losing the weight, I allowed my health to deteriorate to the point of having to go on disability. It's no coincidence that I developed all of the health issues that were discussed in this video. You name it, I was diagnosed with it. Miraculously all but very few resolved with weight loss, also not a coincidence. The ones that haven't resolved are due to the permanent damage that was caused by staying so morbidly obese for so long. I'm in stage 4 kidney failure from Diabetes. But, by getting healthy, I have gone into "remission", and have hopefully put off progressing into end-stage renal failure, and won't need to go on dialysis. My knees are shot, no cartilage left, but because of my weight loss, I can function just fine. At this point, I don't feel I need knee replacement surgery on my knees. I may need it at some point in time, but for now I am active and can tolerate any aches and pains. I'm definitely more mobile than I used to be.
I get so frustrated at this fat acceptance movement. Don't get me wrong, I want everyone to love themselves and feel good in the skin they're in. But... everyone should love their bodies enough to take care of them. Because, whether they admit it or not, what happened to me, will happen to all these fat activists too. At some point, they won't have youth on their side anymore. Staying obese does irreparable damage to your body over time. Period. I'm the poster child for that.
But it's not to late for them, just like it wasn't to late for me!
I don't post on TicToc preaching this, because frankly I enjoy peace. I don't want to get in a fight with this delusional group. But they are going to find out the hard way.
Ever heard the saying F*ck around and find out? That's what I want to say to that delulu group. F*ck around and find out.
If you'd ever like to speak with me about my journey, I'd live to share. I'm beginning to find my voice. I feel like, coming from a Nursing background, I have a lot of insight to offer. Especially after all the health perils I've overcome.
God Bless John, keep up the good work.

It would be very difficult to diagnose a fat person with fibromyalgia as the symptoms of fibromyalgia cross over so much with the symptoms of general poor health due to obesity. They would need to lose a lot of weight first to rule that out as the cause.

As a person who has been overweight their whole life And is finally doing something about it, What she said is completely crazy. People have their preferences, No one should have to make themselves date.Anybody just because you think they Should. And comparing being overweight to racism It's just not a comparable thing. No one can help the color of their skin but you can definitely help the condition of your health. These fat acceptance influencers only do this because it's a trend and they make money. If they weren't going viral and making money They wouldn't be saying any of this

I also have fibromyalgia, though I've always been on the thinner side. It's linked to chronic stress, injury, illnesses, and genetic factors. Yes, there will always be flares, and yes, they're awful, but I can tell you that a healthy diet, exercise, stress relief, and the right medication have helped so much with their frequency and intensity. Basically, the more physical and emotional stress you can get rid of, the easier fibro becomes to manage. I sincerely hope Lexi can let go of the pressure to listen to the FA movement and work to feel better on her own.

My whole life I’ve heard how “it’s the skinny people who are unhealthy” “working out will only hurt you” “just eat it, it tastes good doesn’t it?” “People being athletic is bullying” that’s why they all have artificial hips and knees and heart problems. It’s not genetic, it’s the lifestyle

I broke my back when I was 26, I went from a very physically active serving soldier of 6'2" and 185 lbs, with a wife and young son, to a wheelchair bound, divorced, not seeing his son, civilian suffering from depression. The only thing I could do was eat, and I quickly reached 295lbs. I spent almost 25 years suffering constant back pain, until after a very bad problem, 3 weeks when all I could manage was crawling, my GP visited me, gave me a morphine injection and took me to his chiropractor.
He got me walking, my GP signed me off work for 4 months, and I went swimming everyday and stopped eating crap. After that 4 months I weighed 225 lbs, and with regular chiropractic visits and stretching exercises overcame 70% of my back problems.
I don't expect to have a long life, the excess weight has probably done it's damage, but I will never again reach a weight where a fork lift truck is required to move my body after I'm dead. Losing weight is hard, when it's been your companion for a long time it's hard to imagine not being fat.
But to believe that there is no risk in being massively overweight is simply delusional. If you think it's hard losing the fat at 30, try it at 50. At 50 even fit people have less energy, mobility and stamina, when your body has been carrying 100 lbs of fat for 20 years, it's almost impossible to believe it's possible to lose it, or know where to start.
If you're young and fat, don't wait until you have problems, get your arse in gear and avoid the problems!

It astounds me how people my age group who’ve never pushed their body deal with even worse joint and skeletal issues than I do when I beat the shit out of my body for 2 decades. Just existing shouldn’t wear out your body in such a short period of time.

Did some research and learned that young, obese people have a high risk for developing MS.

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in college, I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Medication helps me, but they often cause weight gain and/or make it harder to lose it; I did gain some, and then more when I developed PCOS. I can barely even go for a short walk on my bad days, even if desperately want to. When a flare up comes, there's really not much I can do. But, I know long term its only going to get worse, so prioritizing good habits, further improving my nutrition, and stretching 1-2x daily has been my priority now.

I am not going to say “told ya so! lol” to her because this stuff is so serious and so awful to go through. I think the shame was so intense for her when she was on Dr Phil that she reacted with so much contempt and anger towards everyone telling her to fight for a lower weight. It’s so painful when it catches up with you like this. I have empathy for this, not sympathy. She does need to acknowledge what she was pushing was dangerous and accept the consequences, but maybe when she’s healed, good things can come out of this, like she could try to get healthier and lose the weight. A lot of us struggle with it, myself included. She’s not going to be alone in this fight.

As a nurse, I have noticed that yes, a few overweight people CAN be physically capable of doing most things (like going on hikes etc) BUT the human body is not built to carry this much weight and the body wears down faster. Resulting in joints and spine wearing down, skininfections between any folds and on the feet aswell as organs getting damaged, especially heart and liver. I have seen it countless of times and it is so sad, because it's usually too late to just loose the weight at the point we notice, and they will have problems for the rest of their life. 😞 Also overweight people tend to loose their abilities faster whenever they DO get sick. Like after operations or infections, they take way longer to recover and sometimes they do not recover "all the way" and will still need help. And it's SO MUCH harder and more dangerous for nursing staff to help them get washed, get out of bed or even sit up in bed because countless times I had to do those things all alone since we were understaffed and did not have lifters etc. 😅 I would not be able to stop someone from falling out of bed who is 2x my weight or more. Not to think of getting them back IN bed off the floor afterwards 🥲 (sorry for any spelling mistakes, english is not my first language!)

It's almost like obesity causes all kinds of health problems... and it's almost like your labs won't reflect all the damage that is being done until it's too late. All these people who are like 'my labs are perfect, I don't have any health problems...' need to wake up! And I"m so glad that you and others like you are spreading the word not because any of us should be mocking people like Lexi but because there are vulnerable young people who need to hear the truth and hopefully they can avoid having these major problems. Her refusal to lose weight is robbing her of her life and it's very sad. I hope she can get better but it would have been a lot easier if she had done it 10 years ago.

Then my heart failed. I woke up in a hospital bed. Scariest day of my life. That was my wakeup call, and Im grateful I got that wakeup call so young. I am now 200 pounds, and I workout daily. I can squat about 400 pounds. Its amazing what a change in mindset can do.
The way I see it, saying you can be healthy at any size is like saying gravity isnt real. At the end of the day, reality is reality and your opinion won't change that
