  • It's still summer, I still love Ravenscar, and I am back hunting for upper Lias/Jurassic rare ammonites on the Yorkshire coast. Come along and enjoy the hunt!

    Nice selection there. Good luck to all with the birth and hope the little one can don a hardhat of their own and join you on your hunts in a few years time!

      Ravenscar always is good for the diversity, if not always the number of finds. Already looking forward to my next adventure down there, although I'm told the seals are back in the bay limiting access to the beach via the ferns and ticks... might be November and the cold weather before I'm back.
      Thanks! Hopefully not much longer to wait for the little one to come out, but now you've got me looking up where to buy a kid's hardhat!

    You guys have a beautiful office.

      I will not argue with that opinion. The Yorkshire coastline is truly a special place even if there weren't fossils, which are a happy bonus on any day out.

      @@dinoskool I live down on The Sunny South Coast, the fossils are few and far between. Unless you're interested in microfossils of cocoliths! I've beautiful marrowfat pea sized bivalves shell. Also over the sixty years of my life I've found about a dozen sea urchin fossils, some preserved in chalk, some in flint. I still don't fully understand what the bandings of flint arise from. I'm now disabled with spinal injuries, you guys wave a wand, taking me to places I've always wanted to revist. Spent a couple of weekends at The Dracula Convention, with a goth girlfriend of mine. Beautiful area, great biking roads, and now you know how I got the spinal injuries.

      @@dinoskool I do love Whitby, nice pubs, good beer and always good company.

      The south coast has some lovely areas too, and generally warmer than up here! Shame your local area is mostly Cretaceous microfossils but still a bonus. Sorry to hear about your injuries, but glad we are able to take you along for some of our adventures, even if just virtually!

      @@dinoskool Seriously, thank you. You take me back to wandering along the beach, beachcombing for wood and other weird and wonderful sights. I still get that same delight in discovery, vicariously through a lot of geology and palentological RUclipsrs.

    A new rock puppy how exciting, train them up in the way to go. Just a quick question, what is the device you have strapped to your pack strap?

      I hope my little one loves fossils, but if not he'll hopefully just love the outdoors and coast all the same!
      The weird thing on my bag is actually a mount for my camera. I'm planning to try and film a full hunt (or at least a solid hour) rather than doing lots of short clips. It's been a bit of practice getting something that might work and the mount looks weird and draws lots of questions.

      @@dinoskool Cool I thought it may have been a GPS unit to record where you found your more interesting finds

    • @dinoskool
      @dinoskool  8 дней назад

      I've got a GPS app on my phone for that so all of the bone finds have accurate locations. Everything I've found is loose and washed though so it's all moot when it comes to that level of detail
