Any thoughts on a 2006 chevy impala with a 3900 motor? Very clean, well maintained Police package, not a city police car with 127,000 miles. The word is it's from a smaller town in Colorado mainly for corrections or transport vehicle. 1 spot light and 2 antenna holes on trunk lid.

Good review! I have an Impala myself though it is a low mile car. My main reason for buying it was the dealership I used to work at had a few Impala loaner cars, all with high miles, but running fantastic. I bought mine from that same dealership. In my opinion these cars are very underappreciated.

I cut the wires and reconnected them with a "bridge wire." One thing I'm careful of, is not turning on the defrost and leaving it on for too long. I think Chevy did not count on people doing that (as it is easy to forget about). The wires get too hot and burn out since the gauge wire should be a little heavier to accomodate the defroster being left "on" too long.

Power steering leaks? Did you mean transmission line leaks? Those are almost guaranteed at the fittings that hook up to the transmission pan. Easy fix though. My guess is why that’s why so many transmissions on these cars fail. Main thing with these cars as with all cars is to keep up on the maintenance and fluid changes especially oil, transmission and coolant.

I don't know why, but many former taxis are bullet proof. My friend bought a 2014 Mercedes E350 Estate, with 370k kilometers, outside a few worn items, the car is rust free, drivetrain like a tank, rides better than my sedan model E350. And his engine and trans have never seen major repairs, just normal service. The repair Shop I retired from, serviced Impala police vehicles for three cities, all were tough, just minor repairs, rarely anything major. I would take an ex service vehicle over any, they pretty much are taken off the road till regular maintenance is completed. At least that was my experience.
