Take a thermometer and a study lamp. Control temperature by first covering bulb with cloth, placing thermometer at the nest, moving bulb farther or nearer depending on the mercury.
Try to use dog food to feed the nestlings. Buy hard dry dog food, crush it and then mix it with water. Feed it to the chick using a syringe (without the needle). That's how I raised one sparrow that had fallen out of its nest a few years ago.
The reason the other egg died was because it was left to go cold. The reason the chick died was because you are not supposed to feed it within the first 24 hours of hatching this is because it is stil living on the yolksac. You should also know that food offered should have water mixed in with it unless it is insects or the bird will become dehydrated fast. I have hand reared hundreds of small birds, it becomes a fine art over time but also the most rewarding. Should have exterminated the ant nest and treated the tree which they climb
Ironically, the ant nest is probably more beneficial to the environment than an over abundant bird type (which eat beneficial insects non stop). Nature is nature
I also saw on Google to feed baby birds soft boiled eggs. Did that end up hurting the baby? Or did it die as the result of not pooping? I noticed how enlarged its abdomen was.
The abdomen is what remains of the yolk after the chick hatches. It can sustain the chick for a day or so. The chick and the egg both died from being too cold. They are wet when they hatch and have no way of regulating their own body temp that young. Mom would be sitting on the baby right after hatching and during.

11:06 umm I think the bird that hatched put a crack in the other egg. And also they need to eat every 10minuites, AND for a egg to hatch they need warmth to develop inside the egg.
Sooo sad.. Few days back, Red Vented Bulbul bird lays 2 eggs on small tree which was only 8feet height in front of my house. Those eggs were hatched in the morning, within an hour the nest was attacked by a pet cat and had eaten one of the baby and another one fell from the nest. The parent birds were flew away so there is no other options, I just moved the baby bird into another old nest on beside tree to save from the cat. We have waited long for the parents to come and take care of their only one baby. But unfortunately, the parents were not around for hours. Certainly the weather was about to rain with heavy thunderstorms. Now, I couldn't give up for the nature to take the chance so I take the baby into my house and arranged a box with warm set up and fed with some egg and soaked fish food. Things going better day by day, the baby eating well but yes, looks somewhat weaker, growing slowly. On the 5th day, I didn't get what was the wrong I did in taking care of the chick. Sadly I lost the chick after all the affection build in 5days, finally ended up crying. It's really heartbreaking for me as an animal lover and could not bear the death of the chick.😔😔

You needed more time to keep check on the parents and the nest, sounds like you had a lot of RL issues to deal with. As for the chicks and the eggs, keep vigilant, and next time, try to keep a closer eye on them. If something happens to the eggs and or chicks you also want to try and get the attention of the parents if one of them hatches after you rescue them. If they know the chick is alive, they might try to raise and feed it where it currently is at. The birds know way better what to feed their chicks than humans do. It's very important to monitor the ant nest population around your garden if you want to have birds raising chicks in nests. Ants will expand their colony if they can and they use any available food sources. That's how nature works.
The ants are performing a role in the ecosystem of your garden though, so don't outright destroy them all indiscriminately you need to make sure some species that don't hunt near bird nests survive in order to keep the balance of the garden pest problem in check.
If the trees are in pots, and you happen to have those water catchers at the base, perhaps next time, if there is another nest, you can always make sure there is just enough water to keep ants away- you'd have to have those water catchers on all trees as the branches cross and tangle. wonderful documentaion- so sad about the baby chicks. I think these type of ants that killed the chick are tapinoma sessileb
Once I saw 2 broken eggs in the ground and one baby chick, I guessed that they had fallen from the nest they were being eaten by ants, I left the eggs cause there is nothing I could do about it they were broken and jelly like ( I am a kid so I can’t do much, also my parents would not let me touch the bird) so I grabbed a stick, put it in the chicks mouths carried it away, then I realized it was pointless cause it had already died and I gave it back to the ants.😢
there's actually a better way, which is to wrap the chick in a tissue and then bury it in the ground 😔. That's what we do in Indonesia and also includes the funeral method in Islam
@@nasywanurlinia2145 Wow, I am surprised anyone read my comment cause it was kinda long but thank you for reading it, you see I was much younger, and I did not know that I could do that, I also did that because I wanted the ants to eat, if the chick was dead, so yea, but thank you for the advice, if I see a dead chick and it’s not being eaten by other animals then I will do that. ( wow that was long, sorry)
OMG, I got a like? From a RUclipsr? That’s my first time
