The New York Times, the day after this film was premiered published this: "Evidence that Japanese animators are reaching for the moon, while most of their american counterparts remain stuck in the kiddie sandbox" -Manohla Dargis.-
@@GabrielOlivares123 I would argue the inverse right now. We have Across the Spiderverse, Arcane, and Invincible for the first 3 examples that come across my mind. Yeah, there are some good anime being made. But there hasn't been anything nearly as high profile as this in the past 5ish years aside from some generic Shounen stuff.
It is correct in matter of like three or four directors. Most anime ngl these days is well... "nothing but trash" I am actively searching for ones worth watching but with no effect 😢
Susumu actually gained considerable fame inside Japan around the 70's, but "had an averse reaction to it" according to wiki. He doesn't seem to adhere to a single genre for long, strikes me as the kind who enjoys experimentation and would probably enjoy the diversity and flexibility being niche provides.
kon and hirasawa are/were two transcendent artists in their respective mediums the likes of which we will never see again. what a privilege it is to experience their work.
This song always manages to transport me to a blissful place whenever I'm having one of those dark days. R.I.P. Satoshi kon, you were truly a genius with such a unique mind.
This is one of the movies I first watched with my current girlfriend and lover. We love this movie so much and it gives us a lot of emotions and feelings about not only eachother but, also art and our world and what we can do to change it for the better. Rest in Peace Satoshi Kon and thank you for the gift you not only gave the world but for the gift you gave to my life and my loves.
Same. I'm one of those people who has a hard time getting into a lot of anime and is a bit skeptical when people recommend Japanese animated movies as well (Though it's easier to get me to watch a movie) but back in the day, all my wife had to do is say "It's a Satoshi Koooon!" and I'd be up for it off the bat.
I agree. Actually the most amazing moment of the movie for me was when Atsuko hugs Tokita near the end; it was so sudden and romantic- like she discovered a wonderful part of herself that had always been there, in her dream. I did not expect it at all and I almost cried when I saw it the first time, it was so wonderful.
Goodbye Satoshi... Rest in Peace. I won't forget how you shaped my imagery of what anime could be years ago. Thank you. But it's still too soon. Far too soon for you to be gone.
I love this movie. Not only does it deliver in terms of its science fiction themes, but is quite moving and touching. And the music is always just right.
I was just having a rough time, feeling super frustrated and overwhelmed, but this auto played on me, and I could just feel the stress, like, drain away. I'm still upset, but it feels much more manageable now, after just a few minutes of calmly listening. Thank you for the upload. Maybe I'll rewatch this movie over the weekend, it's been quite a few years since I last saw it.
the opening of this song where there's a bit of techno sound to it is what really got me hooked all together on the soundtrack. this is an absolutely beautiful piece. so calming and serene.
Don't know if I agree. The music is part of the greater mis en scene and actually plays a big part. This song example is used in two crucial points in the movie, where Chiba is speaking to Paprika's reflected image, and also when she realizes she is in love with Tokita. Both are moments when Chiba shows her vulnerable side and the music helps convey that. Wow....film class...yeah...
hearing this with teary eyes, so so good. wishing this initial engagement/discovery could last forever! humans will keep creating such masterpieces, they all come from the heart! be hopeful, faithful and dream BIG!
this is the song i imagine all aspects of my life coming together to. this movie was the greatest. satoshi kon the world is missing out on your potential works and that fact alone makes me realize the injustice of things. rest in peace you god damn genius.
Its amazing, the soundtrack has a very surreal and dreamlike vibe to it. Which is why it fits the film so well. Satoshi Kon wanted you to feel like you WERE in a dream while watching this movie. Just absolutely beautiful and genius.
Underwater, drifting, insulated, everything else melted and kept out by an ocean of color and sound that fills the mind and then the body, meaningless and therefore meaning everything, protection against the outside pain. ...I like words.
This soundtrack is just amazingly brilliant because you just leaves you in shock and awe in the intro and entranced in it's melody. Absolutely brilliant!
Kond (the director of this masterpiece) just dies last night. may he rest in peace, this song takes on new meaning under the light of these new circumstances, peacefully moving on
I just saw this movie, and I thought it was excellent. Furthermore Ive read about improving ones lucid dreaming- and its apparently not impossible, rather its only uncommon, to have such physically real- imaginative dreams, to which you can control and manipulate- as long as you sleep right and maintain some habits. I remember as a young man some lucid dreaming, nowadays.... I need to figure out how to get that part of my life back
Susumu Hirasawa, I'd like to thank you for these masterpieces. Never has a song infused me with such emotion as this has. The music from Millenium Actress was just as amazing.
god this soundtrack takes me to a world I never knew existed. We take life for granted so much, and we hardly see the amazing dexterity there is and how much beauty there is. Thats what this song helps remind me :D
I was just thinking about his movies yesterday, and to hear the awful news about him today...............Depressing. I didn't know him personally and I'm crying right now. Such talent doesn't come around very often.
The only film i need to finish my Satoshi Kon collection. Yes, i even have Memories, the excellent short called Magnetic Rose is fantastic. RIP Kon, you are the best.
Colour beneath our feet Floating, a sky of blue In our mind, reflected on the street Made us realize that love is true. Blood is red, My name is not Dave This makes no sense Microwave.
this track is so peaceful. i could either fall asleep listening to it or just take a moment and think....let the melody freeze everything for just a few minutes and simply think about how things are and where they may be going, reflecting on all the good and bad and just...taking it all in with an open mind. the tone of the music also makes me feel sorta hopeful =]
sometimes i feel like an old 3-d picture of myself. half blue, half red, somewhere in the middle some kind of reality. feelings, seeing, even the wind feels like nothing's really 'real'...i just wanna know if it's the NOW, which is different, or the other kind of reality i'm feeling... so.. - where am i? where am i real? WHAT is real?
reality = dreams, dreams = reality. Death is mearly the last sleep........ REST in PEACE.... The love we feel is real in all realitys. Satoshi Kon, I, your fan will keep your memory alive by sharing all your wonderful works with all i know.
please support the ppl who made it... they worked so hard on it and its really cool! it doesn't really cost you any money but it cost them alot to make it!!! support things u like!
i have not seen all his movies but love tokyo godfathers, perfect blue, paranoia agent and Paprika. satoshi kons movies and susumu hirasawas music it cant go wrong, R.I.P. to bad you had to go... but your work will live on forever. : C
Its crazy how in the west, only big movies get quality scores while cartoons get by with run of the mill stuff. Anime by stark contrast always comes with a beautifal score tailored for the emotional up and downs.

this is a music of exceptionally talented composer. I only wish he is more known outside of Japan.
Its really annoying to me that almost only American stuff gets any mainstream attention outside the country it was made in.
CyberLance26 I'm glad it is cultish than pop. Hype would've ruined anything of value anyway.

JadeEmbodient I hope you are feeling better.
+Frank Einstein thank you for being altruist
you mean break ups :/
U felt better now
9 years since I first watched the movie..
a drop filled with nostalgia here, folks.
+jacob otters it was released in 2006?
Just watched it for the very first time. Timeless in my opinion. The song though is like a drug to the soul, so good
kon and hirasawa are/were two transcendent artists in their respective mediums the likes of which we will never see again. what a privilege it is to experience their work.
wait hirasawa isn't dead as well is he?
Hirasawa`s still alive. That`s why doggotbitm wrote "are/were". because one`s alive and one is (unfortunately) dead. T_T
+Mohamed Umar No, he's still alive. He even just released an album for Berserk.
This song always manages to transport me to a blissful place whenever I'm having one of those dark days. R.I.P. Satoshi kon, you were truly a genius with such a unique mind.
+Chris Orioli Medina 101 At least the composer who made this lovely music is still around :D
+zevex747 True hah
Am I the only one who finds this song totally romantic?
It sounds like happiness together.
Yeah this song is romantic this song plays when MC is looking at the creator of the dream machine
You will be missed greatly Satoshi Kon
hii this is a reminder
the entire soundtrack for this movie is so out-of-this-world-outrageously-good it makes me feel physically ill
I still miss Satoshi a lot. Hope he has a wonderful life in heaven

You're not the only one : (
We all do. :(
Sai Thao why did you know him personally? I feel you are being intellectually dishonest
Still miss his work and voice.

The sound of Heaven.
Right? :)
You are right!
the sound of dreams
Gaku Yoneda rolls the eyes.
I listened to this as I read his farewell letter. I cried so much. More than I ever had for anyone. He is such an inspiration for me.

"A Drop Filled With Memories"
That's such a appropriate name..
R.I.P Satoshi Kun...
It was a deep January winter my husband watched this movie together...its forever "our movie"
Intoxicated and wondering why there is infinity and beauty
the slow version of the opening I LOVE THIS
The best anime soundtrack since the Akira OST. Hirasawa Susumu is up there with joe hisaishi. Love it.

The title says it all
This song makes my soul weep
But I love it all the same
Susumu Hirasawa is the rare musician where I'll consume a movie just based on the name of the dude who wrote the soundtrack.
The only film i need to finish my Satoshi Kon collection. Yes, i even have Memories, the excellent short called Magnetic Rose is fantastic. RIP Kon, you are the best.

Thanks for reminding how important dreams are!
