    Got to see/listen to the GA - my first since joining the PCA 5 years ago. Now that I am a ruling elder, I felt I needed to and was so glad I did. This quickly went from "i guess i should" to ..."when is the next one going live??" I was heartened not only by the overatures that were passed, and the approach and wording, but the tenor of disagreement or even differences that were expressed. I appreciated as well the words spoken by some that encouraged those in attendance to reach out in love and to listen to others, be it African American, Asian American, SSA, etc but without compromising the gospel. I was greatly encouraged by the GA and the outcomes. I came away so encouraged and thankful that I am part of the PCA. Also...Matthew, I have to say, ALMOST as much as I appreciated the GA, and your breakdown, I LOVED the thumbnail of Boba Fett for this video. Trivial...but true.

    T H A N K Y O U! I’d given up finding a good summary of revoice and the GA, and then this crossed my feed. The PCA congregation I had been a part of was more pro-revoice and now I understand why it’s problematic on an identity level, not just an action level.

    I'm not even Presbyterian as of now.....Again as of now lol....this is great news for a denomination to stand on the Word of God. Amen to this!! Attended a Presby church on Sunday and loved it. I do prefer more upbeat music but I didn't attend for music I attended for the message and it was true out of the Good Book. That being said I can't believe I watched this entire episode and was interested in it lol.

    Thank you for the summary. Here are the follow up questions I ask. Do you think the amended language will allow for someone like Johnson to continue in leadership (if there is no repentance)? I ask this, because the AIC on sexual identity seems to contradict what conservatives say they won. Tim Keller has been outspoken that he doesn't believe we can ban people from ordination based on sexual desires alone (I believe he stated that confessionally, there is no gradation between sexual desires and therefore they cannot be used to ban someone from ordination-he also suggested that we should not use the word identity in our BCO as it has variance in meaning). Kyle Keating who was on the AIC likewise stated we should not pass Overture 23. I am still working through the AIP report, and while it does some really good work, it seems to make some loopholes too. For example, it states men who identify as gay should not outright be kept from ordination. It says it would be wise for them to not use that language, but then says the church should not "police language". It seems to me this will cause more confusion than clarity on the PCA's stance on sexual identity.

    Pastor Matt, thanks for this video! I’m new to Presbyterian understanding of baptism though I count myself Reformed (or at least Calvinistic) for years.
    Can you do a video on Federal Vision. I’ve seen a few 10 minute videos by Doug Wilson on it but I’m not sure what the point is or why it’s wrong. Is it similar to Lordship Salvation?

    • @sueregan2782
      @sueregan2782 3 года назад

      Pastor Dewey Roberts published a book explaining this: Historic Christianity and the Federal Vision. Basically, though proponents of the Federal Vision adamantly proclaim that they are solidly reformed, their soteriology is more aligned with Roman Catholicism - that baptism confers salvation, but you can lose that salvation. There is more to it, but that is the starting point.

      @@YouthGuyGav I'm not a devout supporter of Doug Wilson, but many attacks toward him and others from Christ Church are largely false. The attacks are made mainly from professors from Westminster California, such as Scott and Horton. They basically are saying Doug Wilson is compromising the justification by faith and had published articles attacking him relentlessly, and I used to firmly believe that (I had two pastors graduating from Westminster California who strongly oppose Doug Wilson). Now, after I know more about Westminster California, I think it's pretty apparent that the professors there are being very biased against Doug Wilson (very similar to their opposition against John Frame). There is a lot to say about Westminster California I'm sure, but these are just a few of my observations.

      @@valleyoftears8964 regardless of bias, I am just trying to understand the distinctions of Federal Vision. I only know Doug Wilson is connected to it because that’s what people say. I like his stuff on Postmillennialism but other than that I don’t really follow his ministry.

      @@YouthGuyGav I'm simply providing some insights here because Dr. Scott Clark wrote extensively criticizing Federal Vision, and you can find theological articles written from him. I asked the same question how Doug Wilson was associated with Federal Vision a year ago, and my pastor who graduated from Westminster California shared with me Scott's article and basically told me Doug Wilson was dangerous and I should stay away from him (which I don't agree after spending time knowing who Doug Wilson is). You can also check Doug Wilson's website because he has written several articles responding criticism he received concerning Federal Vision.
