The milestones in Destiny's 10 years life are... The Taken King, Forsaken, The Witch Queen, and now The Final Shape. Do you guys understand that Bungie is a great developer, it just happens, like with any other studio, they NEED 2 to 3 years minimun, to develop a good game. The fact that they delivered so much content in between is a testament to their talent. Yeah, they made some mistakes along the way, but me too with my life in this 10 years journey. Guess nothing is perfect in this universe, or maybe it's perfect been imperfect, whole knows? Thank you Bungie.
@@onefastsledfor this raid I would whole heartedly say it needed to be this hard. Does that mean the next raid should be this hard no crotas difficulty was perfectly fine and should be the standard. Stuff like Last wish or Salvations edge should be anomalies based on the current expansion situation.
The sheer number of Godslayers walking into this raid on day 1, thinking they were hot shit, and getting absolutely smashed will never be not funny to me
I was one of them too. I thought I had a shot because my team almost did Crota the last race. We didn’t have our team together for RoN which was sad cuz we fs could’ve gotten that one. I did pantheon ez with my team but this raid was just smth else man 😭😂 Loved every second of it though. I got first encounter done with a ragtag team cuz people on my team gave up. Took me 14 hours but idk, I’m proud and I’m excited for the next race. Hopefully I can improve in that time to get the clear 🫡
I'm a Godslayer I didn't even try because Godslayer with LFG nearly broke me. Once I saw it took Cross 5 hours to do encounter 1 I knew I wasn't about to suffer a blind raid with LFGs at this difficulty. Nope. No thank you.
When I was trying to LFG in the days leading up to raid I did not have Godslayer as a requirement because being good on a day 1 is completely different from running encounters you're already familiar with at a power disadvantage. At the end of the day Godslayer did not matter, you needed to have been people like Datto, Cross, Salt, ATP, and of course the number 1 team whose names escape me.
@@somnium4256 Yeah. I was in my clan's "B Team". We spent 6 hours on first encounter. Realized that not only wasn't the raid done but people much better than us were mostly stuck on third encounter. Then we went to sleep and decided not to even try. I feel like I did the right choice, even if I was a bit bummed we didn't really stand any sort of chance
@@floppydisksareopIMO knowing you’re not going to be able to get the full clear doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try. Gotta see just how far you can get, it’s a contest after all and you’ll never get to experience it again.
@@ajbolt7 that was the worst raiding experience ive had in my life. tried that shit with an lfg and wanted to swan dive off my roof. couldnt even beat the first encounter
I was overjoyed to complete the first encounter after 7 hours with an LFG fireteam. It was brutal. We wanted to pick it up the next day but saw you still streaming and decided we were not built for it.
I got pretty close a couple times the first day. Everyone was great. DPS supers out the yin-yang and tormentor was gone within seconds every time. Eventually went to sleep and tried to join up on groups day two. It was insane. Nobody knew anything or could stay alive. Later on someone joined that had like 60 resilience and that was their highest stat + no armor mods and double primary. For me wave frames made clearing rooms easy but all I kept hearing was "guardian down". I just went to go play overwatch to experience further suffering. Sorry PTSD I guess
Same here. I was like *yeah, ima try the contest mode the next day* and then i hear people arent even halfway done so i just finished up all the pale heart stuff.
From what I saw Broman said it only as a little neat - if slightly pretentiously presented - interpretation of the encounter on a meta-level. Not as an actual clue for figuring out the mechanics.
Hearing one of the world’s top raiders reinforce the importance of breaks during an extended period of time is nice. My anecdote for this is from day 1 VotD, we were walled on exhibition for almost 5 hours, not a great show. Took a 30 min break, came back, cleared the enc first try, went on to drop Rhulk in about 5 attempts. Few things are as valuable as a mental reset in such activities.
It’s funny that he’s reinforcing breaks when their big break was HOURS after the race for first place was over. Difficulty to sympathise that stupidity
@@Bownzinho So…..raid racers didn’t sleep until world’s first? No way, bro. Almost like it’s a race to finish or something. Way different scenario for the average contest clear and a top 100 finish.
As a high-end raider in a different game, where the raid races for the hardest fights take up to, if not more than, a week (Ultimates in FFXIV), breaks are a must. Any team competing for world first plans around 16h a day of raiding, with regular breaks for mental reset and/or food. This is even done on the game's equivalent of a contest mode race, where world first usually takes between 14 hours and 2-3 days, depending on how lenient damage checks are and how easy it is to decipher the mechanics.
I give you a ton of credit for being one of the old heads still at it but it is kinda wild how not only has the competition changed so much, but the bar has been raised through the heavens to get that realistic first place finish or even just a respectable 2 digit finish. It's like you'd have to basically dedicate a larger portion of your play time and discard a lot of your career to just get to that level of competitiveness and still there's a ton of ways to go. The people with frame perfect precision in their damage output who willingly jump back into the remaining hours of contest difficulty, try to sort out strats while the raid is still fresh are on a such a different level of play and to stay competitive in that environment is extremely difficult. I am not surprised these competitions now have a ton of "unknown nobodies" crushing a lot of familiar big names. Also I've said this before but Mork is 100% the most underrated person in Math Class and it is stupid how much weight he pulls for you guys, give that guy a raise, holy crap!
6:58 i happened to watch this moment live, it was legit so tragic cause the team couldve finished it on third phase, and it exemplified how perfect the execution was for day one on this one
keep in mind that last wish for a decent part took that long because of the power difference as well. Ofc vault was still there but the enemies being +40 didnt help
@@-Benjaback then the contest mode modifier wasn’t even a thing yet. The best way to grind power that we knew of at the time in forsaken for the day 1 race was to farm prime engrams in a lost sector. Even with that farm teams still were minimum 30+ under with no real damage resistance like we have now (resilience, resist chestpiece mods, well, renewal grasps etc.)
That makes this raid race even more impressive. It wasn't bullet sponging bullshit, massive damage checks or anything, it was genuinely complex mechanics with hard hitt8ng enemies that required near perfect execution to even have a shot at beating am encounter.
@@-BenjaOhhhhh yeah. I think teams being -30-40 power under in Last Wish is what ended up inspiring Bungie to make Contest Mode. We went from vanilla D2 power leveling to Forsaken’s new method of leveling. No one really knew the best methods for leveling at the time. Everyone who entered Last Wish ended up super under leveled by the Vault encounter as the raid encounters increased in power level. Outside of Vault being the massive puzzle it was at the time, if players were at proper power level Riven likely wouldn’t have been as harsh as it was. Also, on top of that you have the fact we went from double primary to the loadouts we have now, so builds and optimization with weapons weren’t nearly as fleshed out.
First contest mode I’ve failed to clear in 4 years, haven’t fallen short since Garden. What an experience this raid was though. Absolutely fantastic the whole way through even if it kicked my team’s ass for 35 hours. Never even saw the Witness lmao. I’ve missed this level of challenge and mechanical engagement, so glad they made something comparable to Last Wish release.
Completed Deep Stone through RoN, not Crota because of lack of interest and stepping away from the game for a while. Found a new team for this one and made it to Witness but sleep deprivation got to everyone and we just couldn't quite pull through. Disappointing finish but still overall remarkable experience.
I got humbled from DSC to VoG, like people did from RoN to Crota. If I wasn't, would have every Day 1 in a row since DSC. 190 for my team. Banger ass raid. But let me tell you, the D2 burnout and lack of will to play did not hit this hard in so long since DOING that first Day 1 on DSC.
@@Speif my team only made it to 4th encounter. 2nd encounter took us over 10 hours to do and 3rd encounter took an embarrassingly long time which hit the team mental a bit.
me and my two friends have attempted every day 1 since vow but only completed root. We've always felt capable of completing day 1s and we were really motivated for this one so we finally went out and found some like-minded players and whilst we only got to 4th encounter and it stings that we couldn't get it done, it was still an absolute blast regardless.
You'll always be a legend Datto, doesn't matter the placement you end with. Like you said you've got Silvers and Bronze's to your name and for a while there in Salvation's Edge you were trail blazing. You leapfrogged teams in Variety who ended up spending nearly triple the time there. Was rooting for you all the way, no matter the future you're in the contest raid scene, you should be proud.
8:05 you have no idea how great this makes me feel. My team got stuck on second encounter and until you said these words I had been lamenting the fact that maybe i'm not cut out for contest raiding. I knew that a lot of teams had trouble with second encounter but *THE* Datto describing exactly how I felt made me realize I wasn't alone in feeling tossed around by Herald.
I knew it was some real shit when I watched Aztecross' stream at the start of the race, lived through a full day, played myself, went to bed, woke up at 11 the next morning and saw these MFS on like the third or fourth encounter still. Bungie cooked
Yeah going to bed day 1, when people were on last encounter, then waking up and seeing streamers STILL ON last encounter was the most surreal feeling. Not often you see someone pull one task the entire length of your sleep cycle, definitely had me questioning the time.
I remember running this Day 1 and telling my team "we're on pace with the world's first race!" while running first encounter since everyone was on there for like 6 hours 😂
@@Joaquin-rd3km I guess I was mostly referencing Azteccross's stream, he was stuck on encounter 1 longer than Saltagreppo and Datto. His stream was the one we used to cope
I am so happy to hear your positive perspective on all your accolades in day one raiding😊 you truly have been in the race nearly every single time and have been so close many many times! Don't give up, this is what you play for!
We sat for 8 hours on the first encounter. Then we finally beat it. But after another 8 hours on the first boss we quit the contest mode full stop and let the 48 hours pass before continuing. The teams that beat it under 48 hours has my praise.
First-third amazing. 4th horrible encounter confusing and not hard. 5th slightly too easy imo the hardest part were people being screwed in damage the other parts were way too easy
Honestly this was my favorite raid race by miles. We had a similar situation where we would have gotten high placement had we stuck it out, but after I threw up due to exhaustion and another teammate had to dip, we decided to take a break and cleared just after you. This race was everything I had hoped for, but I never expected Last Wish 2.0 to ever happen. I'm glad it did.
It's also worth pointing out that a large part of Last Wish being so hard was that people were under level at the time, whilst everyone who wanted to do Salvation should have been able to get to the cap in time for day one
@@JasonRRedmondi would agree with this fact if it were not for datto being 2 minutes behind 24 hr timer. definitely vault and riven being a pain in the ass. it took sweat like 9 hours to clear vault
@cwj2733 if wish had been a contest raid it would have had a significantly larger number of clears, the issue was players were out of the race from the get go if they didn't abuse prime engrams glitching. That and less active players attempting the raid in general.
Me and my friends were foolish enough to think that it might be a root of nightmares situation and tried it also on contest. We didnt even get past the first encounter and with alot of us being super underleveled we all just watched you in the race. And after going to bed and still seeing you on made me realise that this raid truly was special. They really kicked everyones ass this time.
The funniest thing for me and my team is on the fourth encounter we just began measuring how long we were there by saying things like “ Jesus we have been here for 3 root of nightmares”
As someone who’s enjoyed your content since vanilla D1- hearing the way you felt about 2nd Encounter on contest honestly makes me feel SO much better about how much the Herald kicked my ass. Any in-game confidence I had built up was completely demolished that day so it’s pretty comforting to know that even people in the top bracket were struggling. GGs on your clear; I’m glad Bungie gave us something insane to finish out the saga.
The fact you considered retirement is crazy because I considered even giving up on contest mode after this one thinking I wasn't good enough for it anymore... but the fact that someone like you even considered a similar thing actually helps me keep myself up too. I am usually pretty good at day 1's but this one was so far far far above any other raid they released it did shake my faith in myself lol.
This raid is a fun one, couldn't partake in day 1 as i was getting married and off to honeymoon. But got back and ran through with my clan, learned the mechanics and honestly a litrle mind blow by all those who figured them out. I am usually good and mechanics yet this raid had some encounters that would of stumped me for a while. Mainly 4th and 5th, 1st and 3rd were pretty straightforward and 2nd would of also tested my team as a whole lol. Fun raid to do and glad this was the level we got, LF had me sweating this was going to flop
@@rawpie2As someone whos spent months progressing a single raid in WoW, whats with the destiny community bitching when a raid takes more than 2 hours to fully clear?
@@uhqliss8537 you haven't done any gm content or anything IG from this statement, if these things were Venn diagrams they would be In 2 different buildings in 2 different cities
@@rawpie2 No I havent because I dont think destiny is that fun outside of contest mode raiding. Just commenting on what i see which is a community that likes to bitch when anything is hard.
Remember, getting Still Hunt was a REQUIREMENT to enter the raid. You couldn't get in unless you had completed the Wild Card mission first. Bungie very clearly intended for us to use it on the Witness. There should have been no drama. It just makes sense afterall. The Witness was so powerful it was completely warranted. And I mean, we got it from Cayde, he indirectly helped us win.
I consider this raid to be the FFXIV of Destiny. It’s not combat, it’s not puzzles, it’s a dance. You and your “partners” are demanded perfection because every death costs more than you can imagine, it costs your rhythm. You need to find where the steps are so you don’t stand on others toes, and you need to know where you can get back on your feet. And I love that. It’s a great approach to raiding and I hope to see more in the future.
The fact that Datto mentions that some people are questioning Titan’s place in a raid is so fricken true though. Titans are useful for a few things but hunters are dps cannons and warlocks have well, so both have a guaranteed spot on the fireteam no matter what. Titans however…when’s the last time someone asked for a titan to join the raid team? DSC for Atraks-1 and even then blade barrage hunter with parasite can beat that if you get enough of them. The one unique role I can think of for titans is the solar titan super glitch in Taken King during the sisters encounter, where you can steal both sisters shields and do dmg to both of them by desyncing with the game on solar titan (and that is clearly not intended). Would be interested to know other roles considered Titan necessary, but I can’t think of anymore besides survivability, and ad clear.
It is really tough considering titans ranged options pale in comparison to the other classes same with utility options like the shield or bubble vs well. They got good ad clear in strand and stasis but when on raids its dps or bust. Tcrash harness or fire sholders hammer for that one slam are good but gotta get up close for one or end up in ones face for another and thats a waste of a rez token.and i love titan but man its hard to sell it to anyone besides it makes people mad in crucible as much as all the other classes 😅
Thank you for this. I will be 70 at end of June and decided that while I love this game it may not be wise (hands, wrists, carpal tunnel) for folks my age to play as hard and as long as I do. Therefore, this is probably my last DLC. Makes me sad. Also, lost my Mom in January and had to wait until end of April for Celebration of Life so did not start the grieving process. Caught up to me yesterday and spent the day walking and crying. Very healing. Today I’m putting away and organizing the things she left for me. Very healing. I probably will not retire but just take my time! You do not need to be top dog, just top in our hearts!
This was the first ever Destiny raid that felt like I'd returned to my roots. I started hardcore raiding in WoW, where raids go uncleared for WEEKS, not just 24-48 hours like D2 raids have always been. What you mentioned at the start, that everything had to be perfect to clear, that's how WoW's final few Mythic bosses are in the first month before we're all geared. Everyone has to play perfect to get the kill. That's the level I'm looking for in Destiny RWF. I want some shit that even the best teams in the world are spending days (at the LEAST) to clear. That level of toughness has never been in Destiny, and SE was the first glimpse of it. I hope they go harder. They at least have to push it hard enough that someone like me, who just plays with 5 friends (though they are very good), can't even scratch the Content Mode emblem.
I didn't have much in the way of raiding until I found your videos Datto. You were the great voice to listen to for what I wanted had to do in all these raids. I have soooo many memories of watching those raid runs of yours. LW especially. My wife and I went to go get some Chinese food and I was streaming it while we waited. Enraptured with this fight until I had to sleep. I went to bed and y'all kept trucking. The voices then of Clover, Fitzy and others just there with you til the end. I can't wait to see what the future brings for you.
My team didn't even make it past first encounter...LMAO. I wanted to cry so bad. My half of the team would mess up, for sure, but when we split 3 for 3 my team MORE than majority of the time would do perfectly fine, but the other 3 could not survive at all. It was painful... 😂 I gave in and just decided to continue to watch the stream than banging my head against the wall. It was a chaotic, fun and crazy raid race for salvation's edge. It was crazy to wake up and see so many teams were still at the final encounter.
I had pretty much the same experience. I still had motivation to beat AT LEAST the 1st encounter but my team gave up after 9 hours and I didn't bother to continue the raid after going to sleep and finding out teams still hadn't cleared
I was in the exact same situation. 48 whole hours of never seeing anything past the 1st room was pure torture. Only 3 of us in my clan have gotten a clear even after contest mode because you do really have to be paying attention.
10:30 I don't know if it was mental exhaustion from just sitting there watching the race for so long but when I heard that teams were on wikipedia learning about Plato's cave I just couldn't help but laugh. Vertify just cooked the shit out of everyone
Easiest way to explain verity is: Grab first two shapes and match them to the others that aren’t you. ie: you have triangle person 2 has square person 3 has circle give p2 and p3 square and circle respectively then start giving your shapes away after the rez mechanic then pick up the knight drops after and leave. Boom done repeat 3 times
My team wiped on Witness final stand at 12:52pm, but even with that contest was awesome. Don't know if I'm built for the all-nighters at this age so probably will be my last, but huge props to Bungie for pushing the difficulty up!
@@Ysidoroh as someone who learned it for the first time during pantheon even tho I’ve ran LW 20+ times since it came out, it’s easy and way over exaggerated in terms of difficulty, if the cheese didn’t exist no one would complain about this fight it’s not difficult
The main thing I'm happy about with the raid is that Bungie showed us they still got it. Most/all of us definitely started to lose faith in them to make a really challenging new raid experience after Ron, especially with how powerful we keep getting. This raid showed me that they can still not only make an amazing raid experience but they can also REALLY bring the heat when they have to
You're all delusional. I mean yeah they made the fourth encounter which was a masterpiece but that's all they could do. The rest of the raid is so mediocre and uninspired that it sucks. The entire expansion is overpriced as all hell and isn't worth it at all, and many other problems. If you still support this game and Bungie then you're psychotic.
My team and I tried out Day 1. We got filtered by the first encounter, but still had a nice time. Was really great to have a raid where you need to keep up that focus and aggression basically the whole time. You're not just checked out bouncing plates, you're an active participant. Good stuff, Bungie cooked.
I think the only real issue with still hunt is that it literally made 4-5 nighthawk hunters a REQUIREMENT for witness damage check. That’s a pretty ridiculous class+ load out restriction
I didn’t partake in day one races since Vow of the Disciple, and I didn’t go into this one (which is sad, cause I wanted to badly, but that’s sorta impossible with a job and a relationship that I didn’t have when I was a still student), but I did go into the raid later to learn it myself without guides. And this first statement “demand for perfection” is incredibly accurate. While I went through this raid, I realized that we got the mechanics rather fast (except for Verity, that one was brutal), but we still spent a few hours in every room for this exact reason: *Salvation’s Edge required us to make close to zero mistakes.* I did a lot of sherpa runs in the past, and I wish to get back to it now, but I tremble before this raid, cause even experienced players still mess up a lot, and still don’t know Verity, and still mess up timings constantly. Salvation’s Edge reminded of my ever-favorite raid: *Crown of Sorrow.* I love it deeply for how important teamwork was there. SE feels very similar, but the level of individual skill required here makes it nowhere close to CoS. I wonder how much time it’ll take until “experienced” players actually become experienced and regular SE runs stop taking 6+ hours to complete.
Bro when I woke up for work the next morning and seeing yall still going. Datto my main you looked physically and mentally defeated. I'm so happy bungie showed they still had this in them. We all know elitist datto was happy
You’re a legend in our hearts man. Started watching your videos religiously when I saw your Thorn vs Last Word vs Hawk video for Destiny 1 when I was in 7th grade. You’re the GOAT Datto ❤
Verity will always give me PTSD. I was my teams scout, and so I started looking at that full-white room from 5:30pm est to maybe 3am est when they they called it quits for the night. I just know my eyes were bloodshot, but I honestly had so much fun chipping in and hearing all of the crazy ideas being thrown out because everyone was so confused
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I've been watching you since King's Fall and you guys have always been so good and still managed to be entertaining. Well done!
my team made it to 2nd encounter pretty quickly (2 or 3 hours in) and then proceeded to beat our head against a wall for 7 hours and when we saw that the best teams in the world were still struggling with 4th we came to the conclusion we were not beating this raid. GG to Bungie for making the hardest raid ever hopefully the next ones are a little easier
You should be proud man, we are all so proud of you and the whole history that’s passed so far. We watch to cheer you on, and we watch because we love and support you no matter what
21:30 you may not have gotten a belt Datto, but you got something very few other people had, arguably the rarest thing in Destiny aside from the Fate of all Fools, 2402.
It was something we needed so much after RoN disappointment, I loved every second of this contest, even though my team was not strong enough to actually beat it on contest ( we had't managed to learn the witness dps phase 😅) every encounter clear was so satisfying
I watched and cheered for you guys. I went to bed when you got through the third encounter and woke up to you being on the witness. I came back when you did and watched you get the kill. Hell of a raid. Especially now that I got to run it. this raid is no joke and some of my raiding friends are not taking me serious on that.
I kinda wish encounter 3 had a boss running away instead of an unstop similar to garden of salivation. Like one of witnesses strongest guards doing everything to stop this fire team from advancing since imo encouter 3 felt like this one last push since 4 a puzzel encounter
Datto, I’ve been rooting for you for a long time now, belt or not you’ve achieved a lot to be proud of. Whether you decide to hang up the hand cannons, or keep competing we’ll be here supporting you.
I was worried the direction of day 1 races after lightfall. Glad bungie decided to go out with a bang for the end of the light/dark saga. It'll be interesting to see how future raid races go in terms of difficulty. The fact that we surpassed last wish even though everyone said that was never going to happen makes me hopeful for the future
Me with 0 contest clears because I have life that gets in the way of playing Destiny: still proud of ya Datto, glad to keep following your Destiny content. I remember being captured by Destiny when I saw your breakdown of the old Devil's Lair strike video and here we are at the end of the light/dark saga. Ah nostalgia.
Thanks for the video, maybe you couldve adressed the "hide screen during the race" drama that happened because of streamers completely hiding all gameplay and sound
My team, I've been with since VoG year 1 went in, and they were not into it, we tried for a few hours when everyone got off. I've always loved day 1 raids, so im glad i got to watch you at least. The hype hearing you guys beat Verity was unreal!
Second encounter made my teammate who was running left side with me have an anxiety attack so bad they had to dip. We at the time didn't know that left side was genuinely that brutal and they put a lot of pressure on themselves. Wild to hear that it was hitting even you pretty hard. Good video, still rooting for you to get that belt some day.
I love how people were like: “Bungie can’t make hard raids anymore!” Because of a couple of misses and Bungie responded with: “Hey, what’s up Guardians. We hear you, so how about you take this on the chin and have fun raiding for 2 days straight. You’re gonna be wishing this was Last Wish by the time you get to the Witness. Y’all remember the Vault encounter? We don’t.”
“This is some straight evil we were cooking. We had the Drifter throw this bad boy together. This shit killed Lubrae. The Dark Future Elsie saw is really just Salvation’s Edge but we throw in about 200 more Subjugators in every encounter, and all the Dread can ability spam. This was brewed with the scattered remains of Nezarec. This raid is what Telesto shoots, you wonder why it’s broken all the god damn time? Yeah, now you know.”
Wrong. Bungie responded with "We're going to put all of our brainpower into the fourth encounter and make the rest of the raid the most mid s*** you'll ever see. You'll be wishing you were playing Last Wish the whole time because it's infinitely better than this garbage, other than the fourth encounter of course!"
Never done a D2 raid. Have over a million kills. And my worst pain was listening to ur vault clearing advice. NOW THAT SUNSETTING HAS BECOME SUNRISE, I’m in the dark
So glad I watched most of your day 1 attempt live. I was honestly hurt when I found out someone finished before you but I have faith that you can still get that belt. I’ve only down two day 1s, RoN and Crota, wish I could’ve participated in this one, it looked like a lot of fun. IMO this is what contest mode should be. This and last wish are now the standard because they’ve done it twice, it wasn’t just a fluke the first time.
My biggest problem with this raid, and I don’t know how common this is, was how glitchy the encounters could be. During my first clear, we lost countless runs at the fourth encounter because of it just not functioning as expected. Guardians outfits not loading in, knights or ogres not spawning, shapes not swapping rooms after being deposited, enemies not showing up, etc, etc, etc… It was awful. If Bungie expects us to be perfect on our execution, then they need to be perfect on their end and make absolutely sure that everything works properly.
4th is good and bad due to the complexity and amount of moving parts: 1. Guardian Fashion *6 2. Guardian Ghost *6 3. Initial Backwall symbols (hell of a lot easier when the entire team starts with all dupes of their own symbol) 4. Knights -> ogres -> knights 5. How the symbols on the wall work with knights dropping them. 6. How the exchanges ACTUALLY work 7. How the outside team interacts with the locks. Is that everything... If you compare that with most other encounters, it's rare you get 7 Areas of potential failure, on top of the unmentioned ubiquitous 'get good, don't die'.
Love your content Datto - its been a real joy watching your streams and videos for the last decade - true it has a lot to do with the game itself, but theres few who have been constantly pushing out great content and watchable opinion pieces. Here's to you sicking around for another decade (if its not too much to ask?!) :-)
There was a totally different atmosphere to this raid in the LFGS during contest mode. Everyone was watching streams and in awe that people were still stuck on Verity. Over half the groups I was joining had accepted they weren't going to get the clear, they just wanted to see how far they could go. You see all the top streamers getting walled by most of the encounters and you go "they can't beat this in 24 hours, how am I supposed to do this in 48?"
people watching streams were annoyed that people streaming blacked out screens or hid information because they want any advantage they can get over other teams, even at the detriment of people watching their streams, because you couldn't see anything, but they were still making money, but also it's very competitive so i get it, but also it's very boring to watch so i get it
alot of it basically comes down to the surges and always -5 for raids and dungeons making it pretty annoying to teach people and less desirable for newer players on top of it not really being reasonable for "hey lets do a raid" type of nights without setting aside 1-2 hours now for most average players.
oh yeah datto mentions the still hunt one in general, with it being so strong and stronger on hunters and so many hunters being the reason teams were getting through the fight on contest
My team only got to second encounter and decided to call it after 11 hours seeing you guys looking drained on 4th encounter, but man it was the most fun we've had in a day 1 in a while. First encounter was so tight, everyone had to be on point and have clear comms, but the feeling we got when everything shifted into place and we got our clear was great. I got more satisfaction from the first encounter clear than day 1 Nezarec. It honestly felt like how running VOG did in D1 with my friends as kids (we all sucked at the game lmao) and going from wondering if we are gonna get skilled checked on first encounter to getting our clear was really fun. Might just be me being a sucker for punishment, but I think Salvation's Edge was the perfect culmination of 10 years worth of raids.
I absolutely love you Datto and your Raid Team. Hearing you say this makes me laugh so much though. You know you couldn’t ever stop playing a contest mode raid and trying to get your World’s First which you so much deserve.
Left side during Herald on Contest was the single most humbling experience I've had in D2. The Attendants (Stasis Psions) could attack you WHILE THEY WERE SPAWNING IN. It embarrassed me that I died so much. Glad that Datto was able to back me up here.
The only thing that kinda soured this Raid Race, from a viewer’s perspective (rooting for teams to be world’s first), was when people started hiding their screens on stream. I don’t think it was “necessary” to do that. I get it, the paranoia of other teams potentially watching your stream to siphon information about an encounter you’re on to get ahead of you in the race, is a valid concern. However, you should know that risk when you stream the race. Once there was a first place team announced, the race became enjoyable again after that, since people unhid their screens.
I'm with the streamers on this one, tbh. The team can come before the viewers for a day twice a year, and I can't imagine anything more heartbreaking than losing to a stream snipe. Not a great viewer experience I'm sure, though.
@@life-destiny1196was it worth it though? Being forever known as the team that had to black their screen out and still losing to people that weren’t even streaming 😭
Demanding nothing but perfection it's honestly on brand with an enemy like The Witness Watches the whole raid race and never before in my life was this pumped to see people make it to the end
Agreed! People get “but-hert” if you don’t know everything, don’t have the most optimal loadout for one phasing (its an extra 5 minutes, who cares), god forbid you don’t have an american accent
I placed top 300 and man, what an insane race. I missed the emblem because one of my encounters didn't register on the triumph but having that contest clear on my rr is still something to be proud of.
Loved everything about it. The hardcore 48h raiders got the chance to play something truly challenging, I got to watch and cheer on folks doing things i could physically never do (play 30h on the trot)! The normal raid itself is great fun, requires knowledge & coordination, everyone has to kwtd to some degree, and it's thematic and compelling to play. Bravo to bungie.

“Damn, harder raids got hands”
I mean, this was a BIT too far in the other direction. We meant reprised Crota hard, not the battering ram treatment.
@@onefastsledfor this raid I would whole heartedly say it needed to be this hard. Does that mean the next raid should be this hard no crotas difficulty was perfectly fine and should be the standard. Stuff like Last wish or Salvations edge should be anomalies based on the current expansion situation.

Loved every second of it though.

Dropping Rhulk in 5 attempts is insane. Bravo!
Actual god comp to clear rhulk in 5 attempts holy shit
Wait what??? Back then day 1 raid were -40?!
@@-Benja most people did not manage to reach power cap before the raid and were under power

They said it was a requirement but you could load in without
Forcing a hunter only meta for DPS doesn't really seem fair especially for the supposedly last raid
Yeah, same here. Got stuck on 1st for over 12 hours
I was in the exact same situation. 48 whole hours of never seeing anything past the 1st room was pure torture. Only 3 of us in my clan have gotten a clear even after contest mode because you do really have to be paying attention.
I cried too, just decided I was awful at everything and haven’t played a raid since. I just know that I’m garbage and my team probably hates me
We had the same issue. Ended up going 4 and 2 instead of 3 and 3 for this reason haha
Man, 2nd encounter with those attendants freezing you so you couldn’t hit the plate was so nerve racking. Absolute peak
10:30 I don't know if it was mental exhaustion from just sitting there watching the race for so long but when I heard that teams were on wikipedia learning about Plato's cave I just couldn't help but laugh. Vertify just cooked the shit out of everyone
Easiest way to explain verity is:
Grab first two shapes and match them to the others that aren’t you. ie: you have triangle person 2 has square person 3 has circle
give p2 and p3 square and circle respectively then start giving your shapes away after the rez mechanic then pick up the knight drops after and leave. Boom done repeat 3 times
My team wiped on Witness final stand at 12:52pm, but even with that contest was awesome. Don't know if I'm built for the all-nighters at this age so probably will be my last, but huge props to Bungie for pushing the difficulty up!

Good stuff, Bungie cooked.
I think the only real issue with still hunt is that it literally made 4-5 nighthawk hunters a REQUIREMENT for witness damage check. That’s a pretty ridiculous class+ load out restriction
Only 3 titans getting the clear is very fair and balanced
I wonder how much time it’ll take until “experienced” players actually become experienced and regular SE runs stop taking 6+ hours to complete.
it’s real, this raid made fashion the true endgame

You’re a legend in our hearts man. Started watching your videos religiously when I saw your Thorn vs Last Word vs Hawk video for Destiny 1 when I was in 7th grade. You’re the GOAT Datto ❤
8:15 is how i feel anytime i even attempt anything like a dungeon or raid.
We watch to cheer you on, and we watch because we love and support you no matter what
I have visual migraines, and hereditary 'normal' migraines, and i feel for ya. When i get one, its taking me out of whatever im doing for a long while
21:30 you may not have gotten a belt Datto, but you got something very few other people had, arguably the rarest thing in Destiny aside from the Fate of all Fools, 2402.
Such a fun day 1. The feeling of accomplishment after clearing an encounter is peak destiny
Oh, how the turn-tables Mr. Elitist Datto. - Michael Scott probably.....
LETS GO ELITIST DATTO RETURNS
Datto: "New Sponsor guys! DeleteMe!"
Me thinking about the sunset weapons: "Haha what a troll"
I love how people were like:
“Bungie can’t make hard raids anymore!”
Because of a couple of misses and Bungie responded with:
“Hey, what’s up Guardians.
Bungie brought back their CBT professional for this one.
@@Seraph_SnakeHad to air out half their studio to get the devil on the payroll.
@@moondustace5310 😂😂
Wrong. Bungie responded with "We're going to put all of our brainpower into the fourth encounter and make the rest of the raid the most mid s*** you'll ever see. You'll be wishing you were playing Last Wish the whole time because it's infinitely better than this garbage, other than the fourth encounter of course!"
As someone who gets chronic migraines I absolutely feel for your teammate. I couldnt imagine getting one while trying to do something like a raid race
It’s game over for me when it happens. I get off the game, drink water, and go outside and let the sun kiss me.
This and last wish are now the standard because they’ve done it twice, it wasn’t just a fluke the first time.
tbf, Last Wish was hard for bad reasons (nobody was able to get to light cap before the raid, contest mode was not yet a thing)
4th is good and bad due to the complexity and amount of moving parts:
1. Guardian Fashion *6
2. Guardian Ghost *6
3. Initial Backwall symbols (hell of a lot easier when the entire team starts with all dupes of their own symbol)
4. Knights -> ogres -> knights
5. How the symbols on the wall work with knights dropping them.
6. How the exchanges ACTUALLY work
“Sort of elitist Datto” yeah he’s washed, my opinion is washed.
no i haven’t done a day 1 raid, why do you ask?
There was a totally different atmosphere to this raid in the LFGS during contest mode. Everyone was watching streams and in awe that people were still stuck on Verity. Over half the groups I was joining had accepted they weren't going to get the clear, they just wanted to see how far they could go. You see all the top streamers getting walled by most of the encounters and you go "they can't beat this in 24 hours, how am I supposed to do this in 48?"
Can someone fill me in on the current raid drama?
I guess the black screen streams
people watching streams were annoyed that people streaming blacked out screens or hid information because they want any advantage they can get over other teams, even at the detriment of people watching their streams, because you couldn't see anything, but they were still making money, but also it's very competitive so i get it, but also it's very boring to watch so i get it
alot of it basically comes down to the surges and always -5 for raids and dungeons making it pretty annoying to teach people and less desirable for newer players on top of it not really being reasonable for "hey lets do a raid" type of nights without setting aside 1-2 hours now for most average players.
oh yeah datto mentions the still hunt one in general, with it being so strong and stronger on hunters and so many hunters being the reason teams were getting through the fight on contest
DONT QUIT
WE LOVE YOU
I absolutely love you Datto and your Raid Team. Hearing you say this makes me laugh so much though. You know you couldn’t ever stop playing a contest mode raid and trying to get your World’s First which you so much deserve.
Didn't you all want this?
I just watched the video he made about Root Of Nightmares Contest, and yes this is very much what the super high level players like Datto wanted.
Demanding nothing but perfection it's honestly on brand with an enemy like The Witness
Watches the whole raid race and never before in my life was this pumped to see people make it to the end
I still haven't had a chance to do this Raid because the Raid sub-community is so elitist/toxic.
Agreed! People get “but-hert” if you don’t know everything, don’t have the most optimal loadout for one phasing (its an extra 5 minutes, who cares), god forbid you don’t have an american accent
I watched your raid team on twitch. Was gifted a sub, thanks random person who's name I did not catch! Was great hearing your team work together!
Thanks everyone who made this day one impossible for the community. All the people saying RON day 1 was too easy this is all your faults
Also, fun fact... the Monolith _IS_ the Witness. The Witness is the upper half, and the Monolith is the lower half.
Just retire anyway.
Even the best of us aren't immune to The Witness's aura 😭
skill issue
So much fun watching you and your team during the race. Love the content man.
The constant whining from the elite players is annoying. It’s too easy now it’s too hard
I placed top 300 and man, what an insane race. I missed the emblem because one of my encounters didn't register on the triumph but having that contest clear on my rr is still something to be proud of.
I’m just glad you didn’t win. Anyone who blackscreened their stream and shut their audio off despite people donating to those streams was a HUGE L.
And the people who won weren't even streamers who gave you nothing to see.
I'm personally very happy with how TFS landed.
Cool. well, i'm sure you elitist are happy. You got your little exclusive club again.
and a trash dlc too.
