      That actually would not and could not happen, as he usually leaves using the same gravity assist in the other direction.

    A year after I first watched it, I realise what an extra-big flex this video is: just adding a drill would make it so much easier! :) Also, I'm having trouble with roll stability which seems to be related to the vertical stabilizer too. It's so tempting to save a few kilos by skimping on it, isn't it? But even when I don't, things can get weird. I once fitted a tiny elevon behind a strake for the vertical stabilizer, and the long fixed strake played merry havoc with stability in turning. The plane oscillated in the yaw axis and I had no idea why until I turned on the aero visualization and saw that in a steep bank, the strake was alternately generating up-force and down-force.

    About pushing that 48t/rapier ratio, there's a lot of flat ground around the dessert launch complex; much more than at KSC. I think you could 'launch' there, taxi to the western hills, and have a very long takeoff run eastward. The flip side is there's no sea at the end, and it's not at the equator so you would get slightly less boost from the planet's rotation. Perhaps instead of reducing engines, you could reduce wing mass by using the extra space to reach a higher takeoff speed.
    The complex is good for Minmus missions. It's at a lattitude which corresponds to Minmus's orbital inclination. If you time it so that a line from the launch site through the center of Kerbin intersects Minmus orbit, you need little if any a plane change. At least, that's what I got from lining it up that way, launching rockets from the dessert launchpad, and steering for a 90 degree heading.
    Edit: I've got my first Laythe landing coming up. It wasn't really a planned mission. I was testing a new spaceplane, saw how much delta-v it had left, and as it was in my "test bin" save which doesn't have any other pending misssions, took it all the way there, ending up with little fuel left. Being fairly new to gravity assists, the only one I could get from Tylo put me into a retrograde suborbit, (if that's a word,) but it was such a narrow ellipse that I knew it would take little delta-v to reverse the direction at apoapsis. I was able to get a Laythe encounter with the same maneuver, and I hope aerobraking will do the rest.

    • @ez_theta_z9317
      @ez_theta_z9317 11 месяцев назад

      a factor with the dessert site is its higher altitude, this does increase the efficiency of rocket engines, as well as lower drag, but it does make jets less powerful and you get less lift from wings
      it's all very slight, but it might make a difference

    Take the mission to Duna! How does the ascent change when you cannot run the RAPIERS on air-breathing mode? Is it even possible?

    • @felixu95
      @felixu95 4 года назад +2

      Duna has no oxygen in atmo for air-breathing engines. You'd have to rely on the lvn engines, which is probably extremely challenging with this design. The atomic engines still get good isp (600s iirc?) because of the thin atmosphere, but that's paired with the extremely low lift for your wings, too. For a design with super low thrust (and lift) to weight ratio it would be quite the challenge.

    • @felixu95
      @felixu95 4 года назад +2

    Hey brad. Been a sub for some time and love your channel. Have an idea. New campaign. Science or career. (Science may be easier). But start off ground zero. Research as much as possible to build a Whistance Wonder and only fly-by all the bodies. Not land. Then return to KSC in Bill’s usual fashion. The mission can only be the “maiden flight” for the KSC. is that possible??

      Oh yea. And gather as much science as possible whilst flying by.

    the speed of sound is decreasing the higher you go, but your point wasnt lost of course

      The speed of sound on Kerbin reaches a local minmum at 15 km altitude, and is increasing with altitude from 15 km to 40 km.

    Почему ты используешь старую версию игры? Я помню в левом нижнем углу на актуальных версиях показывается delta-V.

    Back in your video about the 2.998 ton rocket to Duna and back from a couple years ago, I noticed that you arranged the craft in a way that the Kerbal was between 2 fuel tanks. How did you create that?

    When you do these gravity assists from kerbin to eve and so forth, are you doing any correctional burns? Or are the assists planned that well?

    would a biplane design have given you more lift and thus reduce the distance on the take-off

    i have a somewhat hard time with SSTOs. sort of. well, i mean, i can make and fly basic ones that are super ordinary, but any time i do anything that doesnt look like a shuttle or regular plane, it seems to just not work well for me and its frustrating. lol.

    Speaking of stratzenblitz, does anyone know if his next video is going to use excessive part clipping like the jool plane, because that still feels really cheaty to me.

    Could you do a video where you have to make a flyby everything in the solar system in one run? Flyby as close as possible to the planets/ Including the Sun and the moon's,. Extra points if you make a stylish craft. Just something interesting and not overly complicated/
