- Cody Rhodes' wrestling journey is filled with twists, turns, and some big gambles. After leaving WWE in 2016, Cody set out on a mission to prove himself in the wrestling world. He didn't just want to be known as the son of the legendary Dusty Rhodes; he wanted to make his own mark. And that's exactly what he did

Starting Fresh: The Dream List
Shortly after leaving WWE, Cody posted a now-famous list on Twitter. This list included his dream matches and people he wanted to wrestle. It was bold, but Cody was ready to bet on himself. Five months later, Cody was set to make his Ring of Honor (ROH) debut at Final Battle 2016 in New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom, a big step in his independent wrestling career.
Training Ground: Wrestling Around the World
To prepare for this new chapter, Cody wrestled everywhere he could. Just days after posting his list, he had his first post-WWE match against Zack Sabre Jr. for Evolve Wrestling on August 19, 2016. From there, Cody performed for several promotions, including What Culture Pro Wrestling, IMPACT Wrestling, and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla. He even participated in the Battle of Los Angeles tournament for PWG. By the time he reached his ROH debut, Cody’s name was buzzing, and fans were excited to see what he could do.
Final Battle: Cody’s Heel Turn
At Final Battle 2016, Cody faced off against former ROH World Champion Jay Lethal. It was a tough match, and fans were on the edge of their seats. But when Jay went for his finishing move, Cody pulled a sneaky move of his own-he kicked Jay in the chest and then delivered a low blow when the referee wasn’t looking. After hitting his Cross Rhodes finisher, Cody won his debut match. But he didn’t stop there. After the bell, Cody attacked Lethal, the referee, and even the commentators, cementing himself as a villain, or “heel,” in wrestling terms. This was the beginning of Cody's dark turn, and fans couldn’t get enough.
Joining Bullet Club
In December 2016, Cody joined Bullet Club, one of the most popular and rebellious wrestling factions in the world. Bullet Club was the group to be in, and joining it gave Cody instant credibility. Working alongside stars like Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks, and “Hangman” Adam Page, Cody’s popularity skyrocketed. He embraced his new persona as “The American Nightmare,” a cocky villain who played by his own rules.
Cody also began appearing on Being The Elite, a web series created by the Young Bucks that showcased their offbeat humor and backstage antics. The series became a hit, adding another layer to Cody’s character. Fans got to see not just the wrestler, but also the man behind the character.
Betting on Himself: ROH Championship and the Birth of All In
In May 2017, Cody accepted a challenge from wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer, who doubted that an independent wrestling show could draw 10,000 fans. Cody, always willing to take risks, accepted the challenge. A month later, on June 23, Cody won the ROH World Championship from Christopher Daniels at ROH’s Best in the World event. With that victory, Cody was on top of the wrestling world.
But Cody wasn’t done yet. He and The Elite, including Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks, started planning All In, an independent wrestling show that would become historic. On September 1, 2018, All In took place in front of 11,263 fans, proving that independent wrestling could be just as popular as anything WWE had to offer. Cody even faced Nick Aldis for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship, a title his father had once held. In an emotional match, Cody won the championship, fulfilling a lifelong dream.

🎶"something something Cody Rhodes"🎶
Cody is just another example that sometimes you really need to hit rock bottom to find yourself, i'm glad he found himself, left that company of spoiled rats and is now playing with the big boys, happy for him.
I hope all the WWE normies get this recommended to them. Cody's story is wild and unlike any other. So many things connect from start to finish, even Roman Reigns himself.
💯
Both times. North Star?
Cody Rhodes and Stardust being used on separate brands would have been pure gold.
I think so much of Codys success now is him working all those tiny shows between leaving wwe and aew starting. My man worked every promotion that asked and every night gave farewell speeches to those fans.
That grassroots rebuilding of his credibility at you 40 person show and still being incredibly nice and personable as he is, you cant help but like the guy.
He was driving the one driving AEW houses. The Elite took ROH to new heights and then Cody took it up another notch. Still cant believe Tony Khan let him go.
We all knew he was gonna leave, the only way for him to make his dad proud which was his wish was to accomplish the Big One, on the company that really matter, not on some mark rich guy company that doesn't even know what kayfabe is.
And I feel like it’s because he really stepped out of his fathers shadow in going to the indies and doing all of these promotions. He really showed the world who he is! Not just who Dusty Rhodes son is, but showed them who Cody Rhodes is.
@@EliteWalkThroughs i dont think we knew that and same with him as he said.." i told tony i want to retire in AEW" ...He was in the moment in AEW and when things changed then he left...
Damn....Al Snow was right on the nose with the puzzle piece analogy. And Cody coming back bigger than ever.
Jim cornette always puts it best, "if you're always on my tv every week for years, I get tired of it, and how can I miss you if you won't go away and go somewhere else for a while?" Also explains why territory systems work better for wrestling.
The editing is great. Cody’s story is amazing. I’m sure their saving most of this for his heel turn.
Cody didn't want to turn heel in aew. He ain't gonna want to turn heel in WWE either.
@@DragonHeart613you are absolutely right but DAMN would he make an awesome heel though! Have him turn on everybody and go on a revenge tour tearing down everybody WWE ever thought was fit to go over as the face of the company as he languished in the Midcard as a bootleg goldust. Tear down the pillars of the WWE, Starting with a face roman reigns. And ending with (stay with me now, because this one is weird) R-Truth! See, I know that sounds ridiculous, but hear me out: it has been established online that cody Rhodes sees R-Truth as his white whale. His final boss. And it's not like some friendly competition thing or anything like that. Nah. Cody wants to kick his ass for some inexplicable reason, AND HAS TOLD HIM SO!! TO HIS FACE!!! And he's apparently felt this way for a while, too! And how funny would it be, if truth continued to think it was just cody ribbing him, until his heel turn finally convinces him that he'd been dead serious the whole time. From here we see a whole other side of truth, where he stops clowning around and takes the match seriously, and we find that this motherfucker is a beast R-truth! Of all people! Gives cody his most brutal match! Like full on 5 star shit! And now we see what cody saw that made him his final boss! But he can't beat him! R truth beats cody, and takes the championship when no one else could! And immediately goes back to his old self and loses the championship on the following show in some Ridiculous fashion to like, the miz or somebody🤣
He'll never turn heel and hardly anyone would care.
@@thegoughandbordenfamily8234shut up. He's over your not he's big time you ain't he's badass your gay
@@keithhightower646Isn't that sort of what they're doing with Miz right now, turning on R-Truth? Where Truth sees them as still friends messing around, being his likable goofy self, but not realizing Miz is fed up? That story makes more sense with those two than it does with Cody, and I doubt they'd do a R-Truth punching bag story twice, it would become a pattern. A Cody heel turn would make more sense a couple years from now with someone new. Probably not even Roman, they're nearly played out already. But I could see it with Randy Orton
Cody didn't left with the WWE title but he did everything that CM Punk told us to do if he left and that's showing up in other Places like ROH and NJPW . when CM Punk was out of WWE he disappeard entirely from the Wrestling World until AEW was created the company that Cody helped creating.
This is one of the greatest videos I've seen.. I'm a Kiwi and a lifelong fan of WWE, and loved Cody in Legacy, everyone thought Ted was the standout but I hand on heart, swear on everything that I always said Cody was future world champion material. (Never EVER would've thought he'd be the one to dethrone Roman😢 it's so crazy)
So when Cody got released I didn't see much of his work qt all until AEW (as it's hard to watch any other promotion here), so this video was a great watch 💯 the foreshadowing and how wild this whole story is bloody ridiculous, like the biggest full circle moment for any wrestler when he beat Roman.. Absolute legend
Biggest full circle moment for any wrestler ever when Cody dethroned Roman at WM 40, it's actually disgusting how crazy it is 😂 especially if you've been an active watcher since his debut
I have been telling people about this documentary since I first seen it. Then it disappeared, SMH. Is this the original version or did parts have to be removed to be reposted?
Its being split in parts but with newscenes added to refreshen it. Long story on why..but hope you enjoy.
When will the next part be available this was amazing well put together @@brokenkayfabe
@@brokenkayfabeeasy to say lol you added a few minutes of new footage and split it into 2 parts amd reposted it so you can gain more clicks and views...how else do you get paid...work ain't free lol
It’s a great vid but what exactly is WWE supposed to be afraid of here? When the company releases a young wrestler (especially a wrestler that has only ever worked for WWE) they want that wrestler to go make a name for themself, go learn new styles, grow up, make money and GET OVER. Then come back and make even more money with the biggest company in the world. Cody did it perfectly! So did Drew McIntyre and so did Bobby Lashley. Jumping to AEW isn’t gonna do it because they don’t exactly have the greatest track record of polishing up the former WWE talent. So go to Japan, go to the indies, maybe go to TNA or AEW for 6 months at a time but make a name for yourself and then you’ll get the offer to come back! Why would WWE be afraid of that? Cody came back and star and then became an even bigger star with/for the company! Wrestlers like Cody, Drew and Bobby are the template for every wrestler that gets “future endeavoured.”
Cody/Roman Steroids beef…WWE wouldn’t let Cody use “Rhodes”…Triple H not thinking Cody could be a top guy and have his back.
@@brokenkayfabeSorry dude, no disrespect but considering that Cody is back with the company and ALL OF THIS STUFF is public knowledge, I just don’t think WWE is “afraid” of any of it. Everybody already knows about it and I’m sure Cody, Roman and Hunter have been adults and worked out any real issues. I mean it’s business, not grade school.🤷♂️😆Still a great telling of the story though and I wish you all the luck in the future!👍
Cody got his name back in 2020. Triple H was sending Cody text when he won the roh title. As far as Roman reigns failed drug test in 2016 . It was common knowledge and Roman was suspended for it
Sometimes, rejection can be the blessing you didn't know you wanted. Like the Rocky speech, if you know what you are worth, then go and get it. The fans definitely got behind him and the Bullet Club movement to AEW. Also, if Pharoah doesn't like you. What kind of shid are you.
12:30 HEEL CODY IS PEAK CODY
The fact that they didn't let him take his name back after his father died... what c*nts the upper brass can be.
Not really considering rhodes wasnt his or his fathers real name
He could of easily used his resl name cody runnels
Theres no reason why wwe shpuld give the name they crested and had trademarked at the time
Same as edge for example
Hed have to get the trademark from wwe to be aclled edge in AEW
@saeed_05 You just listed a bunch of unrelated stuff that isn't relevant at all to my comment. What exactly do you disagree with?
@@im2arrogant118 how so?
Cody couldnt use 'cody rhodes' isnt his real name and is trademarked by wwe
Similiarly edge cant use edge and uses his resl name in AEW
You're basically complaining that the management of WWE are the c word for not letting cody use rhodes when WWE have a trademark for it and cody has no right to it as he isnt the owner of that name
@@saeed_05it's actually not one WWE came up with, Dusty himself came up with the name, he used it in WCW, in the NWA, and basically anywhere he's been, so I don't think it's a stretch let Cody would be attached to the name, because it's a wrestling name his father created (I get that someone else might have patented it, but it isn't as though WWE created that name)
You act like he can’t use roads and wwe own the trademark.
This whole video made me realize that I was wrong about Cody. He’s alright. It also made me remember why I hate the young bucks.
Best compliment I could recieve!
I kinda fuck with Cody now
Wwe needs to show this., let this video reach to hhh so that cody can be relevant again 🎉
Hes involved in like 4 different storylines…Bloodline, Kevin Owens, Randy Orton, crown Jewel Belt… Sure Triple H isnt a great booker but this is the best he can do.
I’m only 3 min in, the editing and storytelling is already fantastic. I’m not a Cody fan. But how AEW didn’t see how money he is tells me everything about Tony Kahn. They had the next generations top babyface to build its company. A great veteran in Jericho, and the internet darling Kenny Omega. Boy did they fk that up
Is he really over though? WWE is so hard to watch without the Rock and Roman.
@@thegoughandbordenfamily8234if he’s one of the top selling merchants since returning to the promotion and has the undisputed heavyweight championship title then yes he is definitely over.
Dude 😯. Cody played the long game. He left WWE and then worked a shoot into a real program for the title.
🤣
That “pipebomb” he did before he left aew I felt was directed towards punk
18:00 i cant be the only person shocked to hear that voice from Bobby Lashley am i? I mean its cool as hell, mind you. He kinda has a funny accent, like an old timey gangster, see? But its not the voice youd expect from someone who looks like him! He should cut more promos! He could definitely get that accent over!😅
This was the video i kept looking for but i guess they had it get deleted to save Cody's image 😹
long story ..bottom line this will be multi parts and many new scenes included.
This is so incredible, I can't imagine the time it took to piece this all together and edit everything. My hat goes off to you, but how are you able to run ads? How is this not copyright? I love that it's not, but how were you able to use this footage and monetize the video?
Cody was bound with WWE no matter what AEW does he will work for WWE 😢
So when i jumped back into wrestling Cody was doing the Rhodes Scholars bit. I was aware of his character changes from the games but nothing as hot as he was there.
I was already a fan but what really showed me how talented he had was the execution of StarDust. My god it was so good. Ok character idea if im being generous maybe it could have went somewhere with better writing but every week you can see Cody really commiting to whatever the bs was he was given.
Something something chicken salad
I had to pause at 3:10 to right this out. Alright, pressing play.
Cody would've been bigger than Roman tbh , and his going to be bigger
around the 50 min mark, they are discussing a DM. Is the photos at the end to do with Seth Rollins? (his NFSW leaks)
I was just about to say, didn't i just watch this? So glad I checked. Im locked in!
The fact that this video was taken down before now resurrected WWE definitely have alot of skeletons in their closet.
Listen carefully the "grandson" of Dusty Rhodes. Therefore, what I was saying before about that underage pregnancy and Dustin being too young, so to avoid shame, Dusty Rhodes took it upon himself to claim the illegitimate grandson as his biological son.
That's why that promo The Final Boss The Rock made on Cody Rhodes, was NOT a coincidence. "You wonder y u are 20 yrs younger than everyone in ur fam, cos you were a mistake" cos Dustin got Cody mom pregnant when both where still young and underage pregnancy was a taboo back then
Lol
Lol please tell me this is a joke, you can't be serious... I don't know what you mean by "grandson" of Dusty Rhodes.. If you talking about the "Grandson of a plumber" thing, Dusty was called the Son of a plumber.. so that's why they say Cody is the Grandson of a plumber. And you do know that Cody's parents were married for years before he was born right? So you really think Dustin had a baby with his step mom while being underage? And don't get me started on that dumb Rock promo that made no sense.. He was trying to say Cody was a mistake because his brother and sister way older than him, but he forgot Cody has a younger sister. And why would Cody being way younger mean he's mistake? The Rock has kids with a big age gap, I'm sure he don't thing his kids are mistakes
Great video. At 10:20 where is that Al Snow interview from?
6:30 i know what you're thinking. I didn't prewatch and steal the chicken salad line. Im just that good.
Ok no more meme comments im done. Love your stuff 😂
I forgot how cringe all of Cody’s Indy stuff with the Bucks and Kenny was.
12:17 that shit just got me fired up 😂
Makes ya wonder if cody and roman actually have had real heat since cody being back and finishingte story.
I read somewhere that cody and Seth almost had a backstage fight.
Wwe is so good it's got people thinking it's real, I love HHH
If Roman had real heat with Cody, he wouldn't want to drop the belt for him. Roman has power in the lockeroom, it's known that he kicks guys out when he doesn't like them, like Enzo Amore.
@@EliteWalkThroughsYou should probably come up with a better example since Roman was a top guy and NOBODY liked Enzo at that time
One tiny tiny question: WHY YOU CUT IT LIKE THAT AT THE END??
44:10 I feel like the FTR feud with the Bucks never reached its potential outside of the ring. Might be my favorite series of matches ever though.
I really like the stuff they did with Hangman and Kenny wrapped in but FTE that pushed their fued to the back seat. Kinda tough when the most prolific character in wrestling is in the story.
🤠💩
Will always wonder why Tony Khan and Cody Rhodes never work out because he's missed in aew
18:40 say his name and he appears….
Cody believes in Joe Hendry!!
Sure does!
Cody seems like a guy who believes what he says in interviews/promos...he's one of few babyfaces in the business rn that I actually get behind Sami is the other... i was actually bummed out for him when he lost at WM that was the first time I got invested in a babyface's story in a long time...I was totally fine when Roman beat the other guy's with Cody and Sami i was worked fr brother
I’m confused… this is EXACTLY what WWE wants fans to see🤔
I think they told that in every doc and every interview, bud.
cody is off on some of what he says. it's almost like he expected more because of his name. "you don't quit wwe, you get fired". that's ANY major promotions. these companies invest a lot in their wrestlers. they want a guarantee in their investment. if they invest a lot, just for the person to walk, then they lose money. people always want to support the superstars and act like they can do no wrong, yet, they are only humans. sometimes it isnt the company being a mean ole corporation, but the company is protecting itself, as it should. "that was rock bottom"...if a "fan" doesnt know who cody is, then i would say they arent really a fan or are a newer fan.
The bobby voice took me out😭😭😭
Wwe had the chance to push Cody in 2013
What does the narrator sounds like AI Sam Robert’s?
who
indies heel cody will cook in wwe when it happens 😂
Another amazing Cody video ❤️
On one hand he does his best work ever on the other side you see how someone can change an opinion of whioch he said will be unchangeable.
In the end it's the "magic" of money. But that shows why someone should not run his mouth like his opinion is more woth than money when in the end it's not.
Wow. The editing to this video is incredible. The fact that you're creating a clear narrative with just clips and interviews is amazing.
Ngl I had to rewind on the Stephanie cleavage shot. 🤷♂️
Lolol
There really is a lot of bad wrestling on display in this video.
I don't know who picked out the clips, but we see a lot of spots that look fake, phony and (over)coreographed.
Indyrific stuff.
Lol..hopefully people dont say to minor league players in sports
Your videos are always so good
Incredible work!
I kind of fw Cody a lil bit more now
Love seeing this! Cody has done some truly dope stuff
Shame about Marty Scurll and other wrestlers being massive hound dogs with fans or other wrestlers. Sucks for what may have been.
18:01 uk bobby
Who is the beautiful woman with dark black hair that was interesting Cody?
DOPE VID!!
The footage of the elite is so cringeworthy. Theyre all yelling and making absolutely no sense. Men have been traditionally tough. But these guys are like children with zero charisma. Completely idiotic.
18:39 Say his name and he appears
Sure does!
18:01 😂😂😂 wat

“Its time to break away from tradition”
So why did cody leave aew then?

Cody Fan's Assemble 🔥
Sorry, I don't subscribe to Cody Rhodes. I think that he's a sell out. He had to co-found his own wrestling business, AEW, which he then turned his back on, turning to the competition, WWE, just for a shot at a title, because he wouldn't have got a shot at the WWE championship a decade ago. That's just tragic. You can't trust a man who sells his own brand out to the competition like that. I mean, how does that look to the locker room in the AEW, when one of the co-founders of AEW dumps AEW to wrestle for the guys who are trying to put AEW out of business? Cody better hope his run with WWE is good, or retire from wrestling once he loses the belt, because I don't think that he will be welcome back in AEW.
Hes broken merchandise records the entire time hes been there. I think hell be fine. Meanwhile, AEW is pying Mercedes like 5 million? I think theyd gladly take him back. Lol
@@brokenkayfabe That doesn't change what he's done. He still turned his back on AEW for nothing more than a shot at the Universal Championship in the WWE. If the WWE thought his career there was going to go anywhere, they would have given him a shot at the Universal Championship 10 years ago. He wouldn't have had to co-found AEW to get his WWE title shot.
WCPW 🥲

so....
Cody will be back in AEW. This guy is such a fake fake man.
how does potentially going back to the company he started makes him fake ?
Cody still a mid card at best. If he would have one the aew championship he would have prove he is a game changer other than that this is what a handful of wrestlers did in the past.
What about him breaking all the wwe merch records?
