love alonso, great met, hopefully for life. but he’s not even top 5 in WAR on the team. lindor is 9th in the entire MLB for WAR, nimmo is third among NL outfielders. were they snubbed? of course. is it alonso’s responsibility as a teammate to apologize for being the mets pick? not at all. fix mlb all star selection process.
If Ryan Clifford can hit .250 with 25 homers, you've sacrificed 20-25 homers a season to save $30,000,000 a season that can be spent on desperately needed pitching.

Btw, since May 18th (the line of demarcation for this season), Alonso has a higher average than JD and pretty much even in every other counting stat. His value is penalized because he's grading out poorly, defensively.

Alonso does not deserve to be an Allstar. Even Nimmo has 10more RBIs than him.

I love Pete but if I'm recalling correctly, he said the same thing last season when Lindor and Nimmo got snubbed the first time they earned it and didn't get to go but Pete did. The HR derby and ASG are two separate events and Pete shouldn't automatically get both because he doesn't want to only do one of them. Sounds a bit privileged to me.

I think everyone should get off his case. He is one of 26. His production at 1st base is top 3 so it's nice to have. You can't replace that. He is struggling because he tries too hard. He's entitled to struggle from time to time. Remember, all runs count no matter what. Producing runs even when they're in the lead, helps the team win. Remember the bullpen? They give up leads. Also, if trying too hard doesn't affect your production, why to closers and 8th inning guys get paid so much. Not everyone can do it.
I don’t have a problem with Oete saying he won’t participate in the derby if he isn’t an all star lots of people don’t want to participate. MLB caving though is just awful. As for keeping Pete I would keep him so long as he gets relegated to a less primary role in terms of budget and fit in the lineup
MLB didn't cave. I guarantee you they could care less what Pete said. He made it because the whole team sucks and they need a representative by default. Nimmo and Lindor were losers the first 6 -8 weeks of the year that weren't batting their weight. Selfish is an absolute overstatement. He didn't do this to be selfish and he wants....im sure..... for Nimmo and Lindor to be going with him. The reality is....if you take Pete out of the lineup then the other guys wouldn't be as successful as they've been. Hes arguably an all star as he leads MLB in home runs over the past 5 years. You're holding him accountable for something selfish and that wasn't his intent..... there's no doubt in my mind of that. This team is playing their best baseball of the season and this discussion doesn't do anything but bring negativity to the current vibe. Despite what some hear are saying.....every pitcher has a fear of Pete taking them deep because he has taken most of them deep. To say they don't fear him is ignorant.

@@addictedtoJB That's always been my biggest issue with Pete- his homers don't lead to wins. His WAR is a paltry 1.1 this year where it should be at least 3-4, if not 4-5 (All Star). Though I like Pete a lot, the Mets might be better off with a guy who might hit less homers but has timely hits in the 8th & 9th innings when they matter most.

How is not being able to play in an exhibition game being hurt? Truth is if they were good enough to get in then they would have. Lindor isn’t heads and shoulders above CJ Abrams and Nimmo numbers aren’t that sexy. Yeah maybe they are “arguably” better than someone else on the roster but they weren’t snubbed.
