Thank you so much for watching this episode! In last week's episode we discussed the entire shipping process in our usual chaotic way, and part of that discussion was about the rust stains, so go give it a watch for some more context: ruclips.net/video/SrbyJQpIe78/видео.htmlsi=bSM1a2sluLecYxNn The 'Shipping vs Sailing' episode was filmed several weeks after we got to Marmaris, so we had the benefit of hindsight :)
Meanwhile, how nice is Turkiye!? We're SO glad to be here!

Hi, I’ve recently found this channel and have been really enjoying your content (probably about 20hrs plus into it now).
I was wondering if you might look at doing an updated “costs of living onboarding” video now that you are in the med with Ruby Rose 2. Our dream is to retire to the Med with a similar Cat and just wondering if we can make it a reality on the budget we’ll have. Is $3000usd/mth still realistic?

IRT the oxalic acid treatment: As a beekeeper, we use oxalic acid as a treatment to treat the bees for a mite infestation. The mite is called verroa destructor and is the #1 malady in all of bee keeping. Very difficult to kill a bug on a bug, but oxalic acid works well when used as advertised. Not sailing related, but thought it was interesting info concerning the multiple uses of oxalic acid. Hope the finnish on your boat was not damaged.

Good luck with the rust. I know this won't be what you want to read BUT I was sailing a charter boat this summer which had lots of rust marks due to a numpty doing angle grinding onboard in the past: it had been repeatedly treated with oxalic acid but unless you can get rid of the iron itself (which you won't be able to) the rust always comes back.

those "stains" are exactly what you think, if a tiny piece of grinding, welding, or steel wool drops on gelcoat. when it corrodes it eats a tiny hole into the gelcoat, this happend when a friend trried to help me with cleaning the boat with a regular steel wool instead of a stainless steel wool.

Been following your channel for many years and happy to see the boat arrive in good shape.
I joined the US Foreign Service in 1982 and my retirement plan-after three assignments and lots of SCUBA, sailing and mountain bike adventures, earthquakes, Mt. Pinatubo, managing a USIA publishing center in the Philippines-was to buy condos in Panama City Beach, FL and St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands and sail my catamaran between them. I only got as far as buying the Florida condo before meeting my soul mate 28 years ago changed those plans and now I just sit on my deck along the Intracoastal Waterway in North Carolina and photograph the boats which pass Beacon 315 south going to Florida and points south in the Fall and back north in the spring before hurricane season, posting them set to music on my dog’s RUclips channel.
Continued smooth sailing and hope to see you pass by some if you venture across the pond.

IRT the water situation: for some reason when I saw this part of the video, a Saturday Night Live skit instantly popped into my memory recall of Rosana Rosana Dana (Played by comedian Gilder Radner) who would always end her skit with "it just goes to show ya, it's always something, it could be a this, or it could be a that". Anyhow, I guess you have to be an older SNL fan to appreciate that (In the days of John Belushi, Garrett Morris, Dan Akroyd, Chevy Chase etc etc). Thanks for the heart smile! IRT the welding dust, it just happened on another sailing channel as well during a boat transport..... but this one was a bit worse where it actually penetrated the finnish. The insurance covered it.

    • @rburn99
      @rburn99 18 дней назад

@@RiverWoods111 My question though was how. I'm assuming it caused pitting in which cleaning won't fill holes in the surface. If it's all just rusted flakes sitting ON the surface that wipe or scrub off then yea a cleaning would fix it.

That's most likely weld spatter(could be grinder too), they likely welded or cut some thing upwind of your boat, maybe some bespoke brackets for lashing etc for other project cargo which likely got stuck to the finish of your boat on impact due to the heat and the epoxy surface/finish. While the spatter can potentially come off with some rubbing, (any spatter left behind will keep rusting even after your first oxalic acid clean) the surface will have micro indents. The boats finishing likely needs a buffing of sorts to bring back the smooth surface that will help drain seawater/spray etc. Btw Oxalic acid can be corrosive so please check if your finish csn take it. I'd also see if the antifouling is intact. A small micro spot is all sea creatures need.Hope it helps.

When the camera fell, it looked like the boat rolled over.

Interesting so presumably after using the acid wash you would need to re wax all those surfaces basically the entire boat

reason: copyright protection. And pretty effective. There is a workaround to make copies, but its a headache and seedy.

Love the Aubergine/Egg Plant salt/no salt arguments! Quite right - both fight for your right to have your name for it, and salt or no salt. Mind you, Nick was right in both cases Terysa... I've noticed in the past that you both use the sensible, proper pronunciation of "bouy", "boy" not that hideous "boo-ee" variant! Having said that, any pronunciation is good enough as long as both parties in a conversation know what is meant - there really isn't a 'right' way. I've seen British sailors on other channels use "boo-ee" and say things like "He dove into the sea" which they certainly wouldn't use off camera.
All the fresh food looks SO good! You can't beat fresh, ripe food grown in the best conditions for it.

There were other boaters before you who shipped their vessels on those ship carriers, even posting on RUclips. Didn't you check and do your homework? They mainly carry steel ships and, of course, do lots of welding to keep those smaller ships stable and secure. The crews are careful especially with plastic boats because, surprise, the ignite very well and catch on fire. I hope your experience will inform your audience to prepare wisely and not be cavalier about the transport . A ship fire is very dangerous and frightening especially for the crew who must try to fight the fire.

What actually broke mic wise, the shotgun or the camera adapter? What was the brand/model? I may just have something in my kit of gear from my video production days (I’m a retired television cameraman/editor/director from Sydney).
