Disappointing how cheap this figure is built and looks... Good -Sit Down Saturday- review
To me, since I don’t care about the character and I just stuffed him nuts to butts in my prime shelf… he looks good in the crowd and wasn’t expensive. Win win

Looks good though!! Definitely understand the feeling of not having that Premium quality feel. That's one thing sometimes you really can't portray in a video. Is the feel of the plastics and ratchets. As always great video review Bobby S.

Would I have preferred something more premium? Sure. Will I give it a pass? Yes, here’s why. I love heft and diecast, but in a figure this size they can limit the figures use to display. The hardware often doesn’t hold up in big heavy figures. Secondly, the thing comes off cheap because it is absolutely made cheaper. Compare this with Fans Hobby Powermaster Prime. Star Convoy can be picked up and fiddled with, that Fans Hobby unit is a heavy bulky mess that looks good on my shelf, but I ain’t touching it. Next, I love the concept of the JTFs, which is why I love having representations of them, but individually I have no strong attachment to any individual character. It’s one of those, ‘the sum of the whole’ things for me. Finally, it is accurate to the source material, which also looked like simplistic children’s fodder. A lot of that JTF stuff was like that.
Just got mine last week from A3U and included with the figure was the kit with the replacement ratchets and rings. Once I swapped the hardware out, it stands great with no issues with the knees. Stellar review otherwise, Bobby!
Man, if this is the worst figure they made, then I need to get more of their stuff, because I like him! The big, toy-like feel is a positive for me personally. But your criticisms are valid, and I see where you’re coming from.
MMC is my favorite company behind Fanstoys. They’re generally excellent.

That silver plastic they used for the thighs and hands looks like TRASH compared to the painted silver parts.

I remember seeing the prototype at TFCon Toronto 2019, and I wasn’t convinced then. I think MMC should stick to what they know best Reformatted and OX line. This looks cheap and has been poorly manufactured. Whether they just didn’t update the materials from a few years ago or whether the pandemic had a impact on their production who knows but this maybe MMC in name but it’s not MMC in product

I'm glad that I don't care about this version of Prime. When I first saw it, I thought it was a decent Takara figure. Hopefully the people who collect this line of Transformers enjoy it, but it's not tempting me to buy it

I think the only reason to buy this is honestly the robot mode. I say that because as a fan of the original Manga, which is the only published works we see this character in besides the artwork in the "Ark" artwork book. The alt mode was a weird but cohesive vehicle, this looks stubby lengthwise, and this really only barely resembles if you squint hard enough, or have no foreknowledge of the "g1" version. Which honestly if people don't care enough to do a bit of research on Star Convoy, they probably won't care (understandably) that it doesn't really do the job. The nostalgic impact of this just is not there enough for me never mind the problems that do exist here with this figure.
Just looking at it, I would never have guessed this wan an MMC product.
This figure does not look fun whatsoever.
Why would someone design something with the ethos of a child's toy and have so much breakable stuff or moving parts that can cause the piece damage?
I think I would love this if it weren't in a state of wanting to self destruct.

Here’s your “you must have gotten a bad copy, because mine is perfect” guy.
My biggest issue with this thing going off of several reviews is just the excruciating lack of paint. The decision to leave the trailer portion of the truck just the bare swirly gray plastic *REALLY* hurts the presentation of this figure and makes it both look and feel less than what it actually is. Especially when in comparison to their previous Optus Pexus figure who just swung for the fences with its *BEAUTIFUL* metallic silver for the thighs and arm guns.
Would have paid the extra hundred dollars for a proper finish. It's a pass here too!

Oh, I was so wanting to get this, I am ALL ABOUT the Japanese G1, especially Star Convoy is my favorite Prime. The robot mode is awesome, but the truck mode is ABSOLUTE GARBAGE, it's like they didn't care at all about the alt mode, why did they bother when they could have just made a nontransforming figure and I would have bought it. I dunno, I might pick it up one day, but they better pray that Fans Hobby doesn't make their version, because they have the track record with the big Primes so far.
Just bought this for the pure nostalgia, not even for the character. Just associate it with my first trip to the Philippines when I was around 9 years old. No concept for conversion rates, tried to buy the original Takara with my 30 pesos (1.10 US) when it was 30$ US. My parents just laughed at me
Damn, this was disappointing to hear. But I'm glad I haven't dropped money on it yet, almost did. If they do Super Megatron to go with him is the only way I'm buying this guy now.

Great review! I'm an MMC fanboy and I think you're on point here.
The vibe I get from this is they had a budget that wouldn't stretch, as they knew it wasn't going to be a big seller. No excise for the knees tho, they needed a button release to lock into.

I can’t speak for other retailers but our uk one is sending the fix with the fig which is nice.
The alt mode looks like a KO TFC Commander, the Rolling Thunder. I wonder if that was the original intent, then TFC came out and the went Star Convoy

After seeing the amazing quality and leaps forward with Reformatted Optus Plexus early this year it was so strange seeing this figure now. When I saw this I just couldn't believe it was from the same company. It doesn't look high quality at all. This figure is a total turd.
I'm not concerned long term about MMC but this is definitely a low for them after a real high with Optus Pexus.
MMC is my favorite brand behind fans toys but I agree this is a huge miss, hopefully they can recoop and put out a better offering preferably their Stuido ox/G1 stuff which is in my opinion some of the best pieces to date.
It reminds me of the scene in Big when Josh Baskin is playing with the lame building transformer and it keeps collapsing.
