  • Sometimes when you are experiencing kidney failure or on dialysis, fatigue can strike out of nowhere. However, on the days you have energy, you have simple exercises that you can do outdoors when the weather is good or even indoors to keep your heart in good function, help relief stress, keep up with your circulatory health and maintain muscle tone. Check out some the tings I do and recommend to others as it's helped me personally.
On any exercise program, be sure to let your doctor and care team know so they can help monitor your health and progress as well.

Happy you found the video also. Yes, it's hard to do and managing everything in our resptive Kidney Journeys, I like to remind folks to "Do as much as you can, when you can, with the folks you enjoy doing them with" :-) Also, "take one big challenge at a time" it's about steps forward and consistency and not letting yourself get too frustrated if there is a step backwards from time to time.

Is ok to do calisthenics (pushups), (pullups) as Peritoneal dialysis patient?

Thank you for watching the video and for your question. Typically, these exercisers are fine for PD patients as it does not directly impact your exit site or PD catheter, as long you feel well enough and have the energy to do them. Let your doctor know that you are doing exercise so they can also monitor your labs in case there are any changes.

@@KidneyJourneys Thank brother for answering my question, I've literally spent hours on the internet to find the answer. From today onwards I'll start push-ups and I'll let the doctor know about it too, again thanks bro it really helped me.

Hi Kyle, when they placed the central line for HD, was it as painful as the PD catheter surgery. Btw- you look way healthier now on HD. Hope u get a kidney soon. Good Luck from Canada.

Thank you! I think I just better lighting outdoors and had a good day for filming. However, there are some patients who feel better doing one of the hemo modalities over PD if they achieve better clearances of toxins/waste removal. I generally felt better with PD for most of the years I was on dialysis.

As to your other question, it was not the catheter placement itself for pain on either catheter. However, for PD catheter recovery, I had pain for a a couple of days post and then was sore and slow moving for about a week post moving around and getting up and down. Did not have the same issue with the Hemo CVD after placement and one really should not feel pain either, it it was placed correctly. Just some discomfort knowing that there is a catheter line there or may be when turning your head initially.
