The reason you can lock the trunk (boot) with the switch inside the glove box is because you can lock the glove box with the key that’s inside the remote then you take the key with you and leave the rest of the remote with the valet. Then you can leave your car with a valet and they cannot get in the trunk or the glove box, because the remote will not open them. BMWs have had this feature in various ways (such as a separate valet key on e46) for some time.
