For who hadn't understood: it was a joke, the video editor put Layne's voice over the Duvall's voice, this is the only way to reach Layne Staley
Thank you a lot
Lol fax.
I was gonna say, that shiver I got only comes from Layne
Thanks for ruining the joke
@@1-2-4-0 that was necessary lmao I had to remove a lot of comments of people calling me names for misunderstanding
At first I was like holy shit he nailed it. Lol. But when you hear that distortion in the voice there's only 1 person who sounds like that. Still sadly missed, true legend. RIP
Hahahaha 💯
That tingle that runs up your spine and gives you goosebumps from a raspy high note could only ever come from one place.. and that my friend was the king the GOAT the legend. Layne Staley 100% agree with you there.
Layne is the Goat 🐐
Haha right it got me too at first
@@williamstokely9589F****** Right!!!!
I'm discovering AIC for the first time at 38 yrs old and can't stop binging everything. A little hyperbolic, but back in the days of radio, you couldn't get away from this sound. It was impressive for a while, but I always turned the knob for classic rock stations. Too many bands did it badly or generically. It got old quick. I feel a connection today that I never did then. I really want to share it with someone, if that makes sense.
If you’re diggin AIC you should also check out Mad Season. Its Laynes other band ✌🏽
Amazing how he pulled the mic away at the end and atopped songing, yet the voice still came out. Magic 😂😂😂😂
You got me for a second, but that's the one and only voice of Layne
The only one……can’t be replicated EVER.
Couldn't agree more a true legends never die🤟
Hahaha.. first seconds, i was like Wtf. he's amazing!
Yeah... you got me. Lol.
Lmfao what he GOTTTT ME
Same here lol😂😂
😂at first I was thinking That’s Layne’s voice and then I was really confused until I read the comments! Don’t do this to me late at night
Damn he got me too😂😂
He actually is really good though
This was my first time actualy "hearing" William Duval and you almost made me go listen to their new albums you sneaky bastard
Do it anyway, mate. They're really good
No one will ever be as good as layne no one
lol
Layne is absolutely the greatest singer who ever lived!!!
Seeing Jerry with short hair reminds me of their unplugged session: "friends don't let friends get haircuts, friends"
Yah I thought that was a shirt Id love to own! 😅
Unless you're 60 years old and thinning, then you're a good friend if you suggest it's time to change things up from the 80's porn star look.
@@bigboss-yv2nr it looks like someone doesn't know how the verb "remind" works.
Friends don't let friends get Friends haircuts*
Reminds me of System of a Down when lead singer had long hair.
I was like damn he HAS possibly reached Layne...then I realized it was Layne lol.
He wishes! Only Layne had that voice and it died with him. R.I.P. Layne ❤
God bless you Layne, miss Ya.
No one can ever replace Layne’s voice
"in my opinion"
@@EpsteinsRopeNope, fact. Only Lanye could be Layne.
He’s not trying to.
NEVER , Layne was a powerhouse . Rip Layne 🥲🎤💐🌸🌺🌻
William’s not trying to be Layne, he never has been get over it
It’s not like he is a bad singer at all, it’s just that he’s trying to fill in Layne’s shoes which is already incredibly hard as far as notes go let alone the raw emotion Layne had in his voice. It simply can’t be replicated
Yes 🔥
The problem isnt in he, it's on the diference between we used to have
Perfectly said
He's one of, if not the greatest vocalist ever who had an unparalled octave, power, and vibrato. It's a daunting task to replace a lead that can't be replaced. I still think Maynard would be a good fit though if anyone could step in.
You do know it’s laynes voice overlapped right?
@@Outdoorexplore1845 Yeah I think everybody got that, I mean Layne’s voice is quite unmatchable, that’s why I was saying it’s not rly Duvall’s fault, its just just an impossible feat
Got to see them live in 91 with Layne!!! Amazing performance
92 at lollapalooza at 13 years old…. First time seeing them. ( Rage, tool, primus, Dinosaur , arrested dev, fishbone ).
I saw AIC live when they opened for Ozzy in Louisville, KY. Layne had broken his leg the day before the show, and still came out and put on a helluva performance.
William Duvall does Layne justice ! I think he does a great job!!!
I was impressed when they played muckleshoot
Nah, he doesn't. No one can
@@Beeeazybones
He's amazing on its own. Haven't you listened to Phantom Limb?
Duvall’s a great fit. Doesn’t try to be Layne just being him and he’s a monster talent in his own right.
Isnt he doing Playback or is a videomix?
Seen them live recently. Layne passed when I was a toddler, nobody can replace him but Duvall impressed me. It was almost surreal.
I'm glad you said that bcuz I was a teenager when the "grunge" era hit and it was on, but yes William keeps them able to still make AIC style music bcuz of Jerry but William is definitely a great musician in his own right and honors Layne in every performance. My 16 year old nephew is named after Layne so yea we loved these great bands, amazingly that's how powerful drug addiction can be, that's why I cherish the very few bands still around, like Pearl Jam, who are still with us. ✌️💙
wish i was alive when he was. he passed away in april of 2002, i wasn't even alive yet until 6 years later.
Thats not his voice it’s Laynes
@@Laynestaleyisfather I know its the whole point of the video...
Ya AIC still kicks ass and puts on a great show. Jerry is one of the best to ever do it and Duvall is way underrated and doesn’t deserve the disrespect he gets.
I got it immediately, being the mega fan of Layne that I am I'd know that voice anywhere bcuz I miss it terribly
Yeah picked up on the bs immediately
No knock against this dude but........
Me too right at feed my eyes
Imagine if Layne had chosen to stay with us. His voice is impossible to replicate.
B.S. my ass replicates his voice every other 3am bowl squat.
Glad got to see them back in 93, with all the originals
As a very long time AiC fan, I think he's doing a good job and doing justice to their music. It's easy for people to hate on a replacement like him, but people really need to give them a chance before passing judgement. Alice in Chains has so much iconic and timeless music, so I have to give him a lot of credit for stepping in to those large shoes.
You do realize that this is not Duvall's voice, correct?
@@MichaelGrubbEvolvedMinistry I actually didn’t even watch the video, so I have no idea whose voice it is. I avoid watching stuff with these kinds of titles because they’re probably altered in some way. I was just sharing my opinion about Duvall, because I think he’s a pretty cool job.
Oh no, I was almost pissed when they were on the tool bill when they came to Kansas City & I kept saying outloud before they came on that NO ONE CAN REPLACE STALEY. I was pleasantly surprised with the guys effort. Because he needed to sound AT LEAST as good as he did or it wasn't going to pass. No one will ever replace the gift from God we were all blessed to have experienced. RIP Layne. ❤
I have listened to AIC since i was 9. I have never listened to 'new' AIC since. I Miss Layne. Very big shoes to fill. (I'm nearly 45 now)
@@greeneyedpixie2 SAME SAME (44). This is not AiC to me.
So glad I'm an old bastard! Got the pleasure of seeing AIC on the Facelift tour. Meet&greet as well,All four original signed a poster. My friend was getting his signed by Layne and told Layne " My name is Mark but everybody calls me skid" Layne signs the poster " To skidmark"....Good times in 1991!!
That is hilarious, Layne was a jokester alright 😂
I didn’t want to laugh. You made me do it. Jealous, I was busy drooling over a tour shirt in 1991. I was only 11, staring through the school office windows at my future friend being “in trouble” getting something marked on his permanent record. Because he had skipped school to attend the concert near our home town. That thing I still have yet to have thrown in my face as an adult.
Nice!!!
If you don't get goosebumps from that, YOU'RE DEAD
Layne's voice was so heavy. Untouchable.
Nobody can duplicate Layne's Soul Scraping Scream. He wasn't just singing ABOUT...He WAS about what he was singing... But ...I've seen AIC a couple of times with William, and it's a great show. Authentic, Tight, Rock, through and through.
Layne and Kurt can’t be duplicated
@@MikeRudd72they can be mimicked, not perfected, though
kurt and layne cant be replicated because they were more then just singing they were singing beyond singing, its hard to explain.
@@lunarthespacecat7772 yeah, that's basically what I was trying to say too. It is hard to explain. I guess you can call it "Soul".
@@rickowenkennedyyes. They had soul. People who try to sound like them pale in comparison always. For example that Layne Staley cover singer. He almost tone wise sounds exactly like Layne. But at the same time the power still isn't there. Nor the energy. Layne was a literal star in the sky. A sun burning bright through the dark.
I still listen to this song every day
No one will ever replace Layne. RIP King
As Johnny Van Zant tried to fill his older brothers shoes, he was told by Lynard Skynard bandmates that Ronnie never wore shoes.
Alice in Chains and Lynyrd Skynyrd are two of my favorite bands, I definitely appreciate this comment
Nobody cares
Yeah I’m pretty sure his brother knew that already
Layne would be proud Jerry mustered up the will and energy to continue, and he would definitely have respect for William. I always hate when I see comments saying Alice in Chains should have never continued without Layne staley, because that's effectively telling the other three remaining members to just give it up and not carry on Layne's torch.
👏👏👏
So true and Layne's legacy has to be carried on. It's carried on by the band and the fans
Forget carrying laynes torch, how about they should be able to continue thier talented careers. Also keeping the band name AiC is because they all equally built that band. It wasn't like Layne was the only talented member.
Layne is proud
@@J_i_z_z_y facts
One of a Kind was Layne Staley .....I was fortunate enough to see him at Lollapalooza in 92. What an incredible time to be a teenager. Sow them shut
Absolutely INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCE!❤
Laynes voice touched my soul like no other he was truly unique.
HAHAHA only Layne can be Layne
No one will ever be as good as layne
Wait that is layne
That last chorus always gives me goose bumps
I heard Laynes voice immediately, lol. Duvall is a great addition to the band, and has been since they got back together after Layne. Duvalls voice harmonizes with Jerry’s the same way Laynes did and that makes the sound so much more familiar. I loved Layne as a singer, he was unique and had such power in his deliveries. I’m very happy listening to Duvall sing as well.
Greg Puciato absolutely destroyed Duvall during Jerrys last tour of the AIC material. He should take Duvalls place now that he has gotten weaker.
@@gmyersgilmer9470 I just saw aic last weekend, William sounded great, stop hating
@@_alw_w9951 It’s not about hate, just about reality. Greg is way stronger and a better fit. Stop crying. Duvall is a good singer, just lacks the power.
@gmyersgilmer9470 did not see Puciato live. I have seen Duvall on here and live, and I will take Duvall every time. And twice on Sunday. Puciato has not impressed me on You Tube.
@@jtough7499 I’ve seen Duvall in aic twice and he is a good singer but has really lost a lot of power in the last decade. Puciato killed it and that’s why Jerry chose him, it’s his call not yours.
That gaves goosebumps from my chest to the top of my head. I had to fight my eyes welling up in front of my wife right now from the shear nostalgia, I really miss Layne Staley.
You're a grown ass man! Stop crying over dead celebrities you never knew and never would regardless if he didn't kill himself.
Don't be a dork. You're supposed to be the fuckin man. So go on and be him. Missing people you never knew? Weak.
This is layne's voice, not duvall's.

The guy is amazing on its own, huge respect to Duvall.
I saw them perform in 2012 & although he is not Layne, he did a pretty good show.
I was really impressed with his live performance. Definitely excited to see them again!
Duvall is a beast on stage man-seen him twice he brings it every show. Good guitar player as well
You do realize Jerry writes almost all the music and lyrics? Layne is my favorite singer of all time and was iconic as their front man, but I disagree that the band died with Layne. Layne was, is and always will be a God as far as music and lyrics are concerned. William is a great singer in his own right but he will never achieve the greatness that Layne was and always will be! He was so far ahead of his time and we were blessed and given such a great gift just to be able to hear and see him while he was here with us. I just wish he had valued himself even a fraction of how much I and all his other fans value and love him. Layne will never die as long as we keep him and his music alive in our hearts and lives. #TrueLegendsNeverDie

That's the song that got him the job during the audition in 2006 - 1 take was all that was needed 🔥
Amazing Tribute!! ✨🌌💖
About as close as anyone could get! RIP Layne
Oh wow, you got me. I was impressed. And of course I was! It was freakin' Layne! But, I gotta say, do you know how big your balls have gotta be to say, "sure, I'll serve as Layne Staley's replacement in his band." ?? And the dude's good! Great, even! But nobody can replace a legend. Oh great, now I'm crying. I'm a 45 yo man and I'm crying because one of my musical idols who's provided part of the soundtrack of my life left way too soon and never got to see how much he's truly appreciated. The sincerity contained in every syllable that guy ever sang is beyond compare. He gave it everything. Another sacrifice upon the altar of rock. A rock n roll martyr. Rest easy, brother.

I like the new stuff way more than the old stuff.
I knew that was layne instantly.
Duval is amazing, a looking in view is such a good song
William put in the Layne “cheat code” to level up.
When Layne was on the top of his game he would just carry that note so powerful and belt it at full decibels with his own distortion he was one of a kind and a sad ending to a legend

Duvall played with for several years before AIC reformed. I saw him play with Jerry several times. In 2004 in a club in Hollywood, Duvall truly blew everyone away with how well he handled Layne’s parts, especially on Love Hate Love.
