- It was the sort of conditions that make racing sailors salivate: 18 knots true with 24 knots gusts, blue skies, temperate airs, a moderate chop but for both NYYC American Magic and Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli it was a stop/start kind of day with technical issues on both boats as the top end conditions bit. So fine-tuned are the AC75s that any tiny component that isn’t absolutely 100% can mean the end of your day. Just like Formula 1, it’s either all-on or all off.

Luna Rossa is a stunner, as a long time Kiwi superfan from back in 87 I'm loving watching all of these boats and I'm very proud of our sailing industry for having the vision to make this happen, I'd love to know what Coutts or Connor or the late Peter Blake think about these boats, I can't wait for this spectacle to unfold, great to have Spittil there 🔥
Luna Rossa really looks like a bullet in these wind conditions. With due respect to the other teams and considering that I might be slightly influenced by the fact of being an Italian, I think that so far in Barcelona no one has been able to express speed and power so well as Luna Rossa.
I repeat, maximum respect for all opponents because I know well that these are impressions taken from a RUclips video and the reality could be very different.
However, I hope to see some good races, hard fought and with an uncertain outcome until the end.

I always mute/ fast scroll till it shows the boats creating some serious speed. Skippers know to “ tell them what they want to hear, not what they should know”. Can’t even imagine what it feels like to be on a boat going that insanely fast. Lucky Crew!

Nah! c,mon guys embrace the future these boats are AMAZING im a staunch Kiwi but the big threats to Taihoro are Luna Rossa and Alinghi the brit boat does not look fast to me a bit bow heavey and they have a lot of mass whereas Luna looks like a throroughbred!!!

Yea nah man, those Italians got something special with their boat.....but yea those poms M Hull shape, design as opposed to the other teams who have gone for the Curve Hull design, could possibly be the difference to maybe see the poms alongside LR in the challenger finals ..... Well, not sure how much of a threat Alinghi is but don't shortchange the Brits. It has been mentioned several times that INEOS achieved the highest speeds and LR didn't impress that much, contrary to appearances. I don't know how true these reports are but if there's any substance to them this AC will be anyone's cup. What 'looks' fast may be mere MOR performance. Don't let appearances fool you.
@@jamesaron1967 I would be suprised if a boat will be more than marginally faster than the others; they all seem to have brought good packages to Barcelona.
The real point here is how refined is the crew and the control of the boat. That will pay off a lot. Remember that a good part of the wins in a 1 to 1 regatta will be decided on the prestart manouvers.
@@gobbo71 Yes, all the boats are much better performers than in the last cup. Of course, we won't know for sure until racing begins in earnest. What you say about the prestarts is true and never mentioned here.

Luna Rossa seems so much more stable. Worried about Patriot atm. Lots of breakdowns and not easy to sail out of the box.

@@johnmartin7158 I wasn't crocheting back then. In my younger years I owned a large trimaran and loved sailing. Went out into the harbour to watch beautiful old sailing boats. I found the tacking duels exciting. Yes took all day but I'd watch while doing housework and looking after my kids. 🙂
Some people love the tacking duels whereas others are hooked on the high-speed adrenalin rush. You can have one or the other but you can't have both!
