That is such a complicated scene. Thanks for showing how to get an accurate feel for a place without overworking the painting. so important. The water reads so well. Great job man!
So helpful that you video your process. It must be a massive hasstle but watching how you go about things has really helped me on my painting journey. massive thanks
I really like how you simplified the scene.. not an easy subject! I was out painting a creek yesterday and I found it madening, all those colors I see in the water, the rocks underneath, the reflections. I like your approach, to pick one overall color and going over with bits of colors over it. I’ll go back and give it another go at it.. thank you for your video, it’s helpful!!😊
Very nice as always you make things look better than reality! I hope you got to swing by Yosemite and/or Mariposa before going home. Lots of great subject matter; maybe with the 120 road closure there would be some peaceful opportunities to hike a bit and paint by the roadside.
Lovely painting, Michael! This could be in NH and it’s so very helpful to see how you simplify such a complicated scene. Comments are so very helpful. Lots of rain here today and it’s miserably cold out there, but tomorrow is May 1 and we look forward to plein air weather. 😊
Another useful demo, how to simplify a complex scene. Lovely. May I pester you Michael and ask if you considered my suggestion of painting a marine sunset (or sunrise) the challenge being to render it's beauty whilst avoiding the KITCH trap.
I love your attention to detail when it comes to picking your scenery of which you paint and the uniqueness and creativity in the way you do your art, they always turn out so beautiful :) Your are a representation of an amazing artist!
It's so cool how fast and confidently you make a piece of art from a prette average nature scene. It's the first video from your channel which I watch but it immediately became clear that you have a great experience and a high skill level. Thank you for sharing you process and explanations!

Thank you so much for varying the content. I love the addition of more landscape based subjects! Your seascapes are beautiful, but not all of us live by the ocean. So, those of us who live inland can relate to these subjects better. Thanks. Your commentaries help to reinforce your advice to SQUINT not just at the subject but also the painting. I appreciate your teaching and your paintings! You are an inspiration to so many of us!
Beautiful painting, sir! I like it. It's definitely challenging to paint something like this. Well done! ... Great location! Amazing nature. It's always pleasure to see all these Californian places! I love it. Have a wonderful day! Greetings from the EU!

Hi y’all! I remember in a video once Michael met a man at a hotel hot tub, and he said that in his culture, if they meet an older man at night, the older man would be passing down wisdom. Which video is that?

Great painting. Its very useful to watch you simplify a complicated scene because this can be difficult to get right for a novice.
Yes, please do more creeks and running water. Thanks.
Beautiful simplification and lively brushstrokes. There’s movement and great color harmony - you improved the actual scene.
Thanks Maura!
Great tips. Thanks. Love your loose style and as-you-work talk.
Loved it, helped me a lot with reflections on a muddy pond I am painting. Thank you again
Another great painting! I really like the combination of colors you used in the light rocky area.
Thanks!
Gorgeous! Creeks/moving water are a challenge but beautiful.
Thanks Sue!

I really enjoyed your explaining of what you seeing and what your choosing to paint. Iappreciate the lesson. Thanks.

The "scrub-in" and "final pass" are in delightful painterly harmony.
Brilliant as usual, so well captured.
Like your rendering brushstroke and composition is great. Thank you
The end result was great, and what a peaceful place!
Has a nice light in it.

That was a super complicated scene. Great job simplifying it, and showing us that, yes, it is possible.
Thanks Cory. Reducing a scene to simple shapes helps so much.

Amazing!
Thanks!
I enjoyed this very much. I learned a a lot. Thank you.
Looks good Michael 👍
Very nice .
Challenging, but beautifully done. Do you use liquin just in you block in or in the later stages as well?
Thanks James. I use Liquin all the way through the process but use less of it towards the end when I want the paint to remain thick.
dude. outstanding.
