Great video and info. My wife and I went through something similar. The move was very stressful, but worth it. Best decision of our lives was moving to the beautiful, free state of Idaho. Let’s make sure us transplants keep Idaho as it is. I moved here to escape a liberal hellhole, not to create a new one.
As a native, I hate to see our area growing so much…I am sad that housing prices are becoming unreachable for so many of the young local families. That was a great thing about our state even 5 years ago. (Housing was very affordable.). Wages have not grown with the extreme climb of housing prices and interest rates. With all of that being said, you two seem like very kind people and a great addition to our state.
I lived in central Idaho up on a mountain, I wouldn't trade that for anything!! I miss Idaho very much my hubby and I move from The serra;s in Ca, to Idaho and it was a wonderful move!!
Another great video! I'm thinking of coming out to the Boise area next month and checking things out. Really considering making the move permanently, but am thinking of renting for a year to see how I like it and if it's somewhere I can call home. I found a really nice apartment complex in Meridian that I'm considering for the first year, and really hoping the home prices come down within the next year as well. Excited to check things out though!
@livinginidaho Hey Craig! I thought about doing that for sure. We're only going to be in town for a few days, and just like you did before making the move out there, I've watched a ton of RUclips videos. 😃 But it would be nice to have something a little more organized, especially since we're only going to be there for a short time.
I didn’t hear you discuss the extremely low wages, no unions, e extremely impacted schools because no one will approve a bond to build or add onto existing schools to accommodate all the growth, also the fact that residents can not afford housing because of all the people moving there.
I moved to Meridian from southern California, and this lady is 100% correct. Before anyone moves here listen to the bad and the good.....do your research!
Thank you!! Local residents straight up can no longer survive because of everyone moving here and I hate seeing people glamorize moving to Idaho when it is directly ruining lives of the people already there
@herosandwich6920 Mr Sandwich, don't you think it's not really others' fault and more the fault of the person who should better their life? If they want to live the old lifestyle, then move somewhere that allows that. Please stop blaming others for wanting to better their life, it looks bad!
@@levinoble I kind of see your point but moving somewhere else to avoid the problem only spreads the issue by causing the same issue to that location, it is frustrating morally because I know it isn't people's intentions to ruin our lives with their actions but that is what is happening as a result of them moving here in droves
I have lived in California my whole life, I will be retiring in approx 3-4 years. I am a homeowner, the cost and condition of our state is horrible. I will have to retire to a different state in order for my $$ to not be eaten up by the California taxes. I have been looking at a couple of different states to retire to and I keep coming back to Idaho. I am not used to know But after listening and watching a few of you (Very helpful) youtube videos I have come to the conclusion that I can handle it. Your RUclips videos are so informative, honest and extremely helpful. Next year or possible this years 2024 winter I will be taking a trip to Idaho to check it out during winter. A friend recommended going to a place I am interested in during winter and summer to get a real feel for how it is in real time. I have saved your info and will be contacting you with questions. Thank you So Much for your videos so amazingly helpful.
I'm thinking about moving to idaho, been living in oregon over 30 years, I'm basically starting from scratch, looking at amazon over there, it's good amazon is over there
FYI people who have lived in idaho their entire lives, who can’t afford to buy a home or even rent one cause of all the transplants moving here….they don’t like people who just move there. Don’t move to idaho. Please.
The price range for rentals in McCall, Idaho, including 2 bedroom 2 bath properties, can vary from $800 to $3,300. Here are some examples of 2 bedroom 2 bath rentals in McCall, ID:
1607 Davis Ave Unit 50: A furnished downstairs condo with two master suites, a large living room fireplace, and a patio or balcony. The monthly rent is $1,950.
507 Hemlock St UNIT 62: An apartment with a monthly rent of $2,150.
1605 Davis Ave: A house with a monthly rent of $2,600.
Really enjoyed the video. I just feel that the housing market is being propped up by out of state buyers, but I think the migration is slowing down. Is this true? Also I have heard that the builders are slowing down and that is keeping the inventory low which also keeps the prices up. Is this correct? Thanks
First, there’s no “Z” in BoiSe. Now prices are equal to where everyone is coming from, traffic is now out of control, trying to camp is now really hard without reservations, last everyone is not new and please have respect for what our old way of life used to be.
I've watched the market go crazy here too in the last 5 years. My daughter moved here years ago, and we are following. The only other thing I've noticed is how people from these other states are bringing their politics with them-I DO NOT AGREE WITH THIS. I'm leaving a liberal hell and wish that they would stay away from Idaho. we chose to come here because it is a red state and is in line with our values.
I did grow up all of my life in Idaho…and we didn’t ever fit into the Portland values or politics, which always made it a hard place to live. Constantly swimming against the stream is exhausting. Don’t judge us as full transplants- I’m just coming home :)
Our kids school is near Eagle Idaho now… so if we moved there we would cut down on our drive time. We live on the bench and really like it and if we didn’t have to drive far for the kids school we wouldn’t mind. It’s just a bummer that my wife has 2 hours of driving for school.
We live in a world that is changing and people move to new places around the world. That is something that is part of human excistense. The more people the more new people will end up in all kind of places.
You both appear to be a lovely couple. My comment is regarding one of the big reasons you (and 1000s of others) left CA, Portland & WA. You took your daughter to feed the homeless and you couldn't find any. Do you realize, feeding, clothing, medical & giving away free tents, ATTRACTS MORE HOMELESS to where you're now living???? Don't RUIN IDAHO!!! You're wrong if you don't think word gets out, bringing more of what you fled. Take your kids to a Senior Home, pet shelter or Hospital, if you want to teach them what "giving" truly is.
I always wonder about all these California realtors moving to Idaho and promoting more Californians to move here. It just shows you that they are just in it for the money, and quality of life takes a huge hit, more people, more crime, pollution, , out of reach home prices, traffic gridlock, crowds every where.
Not only are they not from California, if you actually watched the video they said that people from California give up more positive lifestyle aspects to move there and that it was really hard for their neighbors from San Diego. To me this is honesty.
people who left california cannot stand policies, liberal stuff and just the economic aspect of it. So the connotation that Californians will bring bad stuff there are just misconception. Californians who moved are the most decent people and are tired of bullshit california are up to
We moved here from Alaska and Florida (snowbirds), so we had two moves, both stressful. That being said, we absolutely love living in Treasure Valley. We actually live in Nampa but jump on 84 and you can be in downtown Boise in 20 minutes. 10 minutes and we can be in Meridian. When you refer to the light at night, try Northern Alaska. We had 24x7 daylight so the light here doesn’t bother us at all.
As for transplants bringing their politics with them, The fact is most of those leaving the blue coastal cities for red areas like Idaho are actually on average more conservative than the locals born and raised in Idaho. The leftist politics of those places they are leaving is usually the biggest reason for why they are leaving to be with more like-minded people. So most likely that new neighbor from WA or OR or even CA is probably at least as conservative as you and your friends, if not more so. They aren't the ones that turned those places into the liberal hellscapes they are. I've seen stats on this and over recent years of this migration most of the areas receiving most of these transplants are seeing a shift to the right in voting trends. IOW, they are making Idaho MORE conservative.
Portland that’s funny. From there too. It’s easily one of the sketchiest cities I have ever been in. It’s beyond nasty. Even the 3rd world countries I have traveled in were more safe than Portland.
No, Alaska is cold. Treasure Valley is NOT cold. Average winter temps are between 20 and 30 above. Average summer temps are high 80’s and 90’s except this year. We’ve been at a 100 for almost a month now.
