- ROSS CHASTAIN AND ERNIE IRVAN GOT TO SHAKE HANDS AND EXCHANGE A FEW WORDS BEFORE THE GOODYEAR 400 AT DARLINGTON. THAT INTERACTION WAS JUST MINUTES AFTER ERNIE TALKED ABOUT HIS THOUGHTS ON CHASTAIN AND HOW IT MIRRORS THE EARLY DAYS OF HOW IRVAN RACED HIS COMPETITORS. IRVAN WAS EVENTUALLY FORCED TO PUBLICALLY APOLOGIZE TO HIS FELLOW COMPETITORS AND PROMISE TO DIAL IT BACK A NOTCH.

I remember Ernie very well but to his credit when he got the 28 ride he was the best driver going! ( until his accident! ) he also wrecked in Atlanta in front of Davey Allison costing him the title in 1992! I was there!

Ross Chastain is more like Mr. Excitement or Gallagher. Jimmy Spencer has 2 wins and when gets up near the front he forgets how to drive. Gallagher was the melon smasher.
