These graphics REALLY REALLY were something when this game first came out!
Hell, it's still very impressive IMO, of course it's not a match for the current GT games, but thinking that this was 2001 and it's on ps2, I'm impressed that they managed to make it look as authentic as it does. I mean things like the lens glare from the headlights are simple but they still look more authentic than what I've seen on even some current games, and the game runs smoothly.

Yeah I mean it looks like most of the effort in terms of details was put into the car models themselves which is fine because they are the main feature of the game but I do remember getting this game on the day it came out and being impressed by all the lighting and how a lot of the tracks look too. Trial mountain coming out of the tunnel into where the sunlight shined through the trees onto the road and showing the shadows on your car looked very very impressive especially back in the days and the special stage route levels also looked really really good with the building lights and stuff. Another thing I was very impressed with at the time, I'm pretty sure that this was the first game I saw to have heat wave effects. They looked really good too!
Something interesting though. I looked at GT6 and I think the Trial Mountain in that doesn't actually look as impressive as GT3 which is a real shame especially when its a generation up! It's like they got lazy with the track details..
Honestly this was probably easily one of my favorite racing games that I ever played. This intro kicked so much ass and showed off the graphical details for the first time I inserted this game very very well! My Ridge Racer 5 copy was about to get dumped real quick :D
I know what you mean but lazy might not be the word, usually with new games you would want to do as much as possible graphically and add many features to make the game stand out from past games, I also imagine that through the years they might have changed staff, old ones fired and new ones hired, each one with their own vision of what looks authentic.
A track that really stands out graphically in the newer games, I don't remember what it's called, it's the one where you speed back and forth on a massive freeway going through a very long tunnel, I really love how the lighting and shadows in that track look in GT5 (it's the only GT I got for my ps3), especially in first person mode, it really feels like you're speeding through a tunnel during night.
When it comes to graphics I personally always will find Gran Turismo to be the most impressive game series.

Holy crap 15 years ago i played this game for the first time. Well don't i have a story to tell you all! I was only 5 years old and i got a PS2 for my birthday. I was not allowed to play any games by myself so i was always watched by an adult, even though i was playing G rated games. One day my parents where outside having a smoke and i was wondering around the house looking for something to do, So decided to play the PS2. I didn't know what to play as i was only 5 so i had no idea what game was which. Then i found it a, a funny looking cover with a strange logo on it. So intrigued, i put the disk in the PS2 and waited for the game to load. Then this AWESOME game intro blew me away. After the intro i was right into playing this game.
And that was the day i found out i was a petrol head and a gamer. Gran turismo 3 is still by far my favorite game of all time!

it's not just you so don't worry , we all miss thos days , we grow up with the ps1 and the ps2 the best gaming consoles ever , i know games this gen sucks but i am sure there is few good games be sure to trye them out :) and don't forget to stay positive nostalgia won't help anyone move on , wow how did you beat the endurance race ?
with b-spec mode on endurance races, i don't remember this mode anymore,but this mode very helpful to speed up the race 3 times faster, all you need to do are just wait for pit plan on the race monitor till the race end. thats why i can beat the endurance races..(sorry for bad english)
i have 0 b-spec skills i always race my self , i tried b-spec mod a lot of times but i lose always , i didn't find any way to improve it , and nah don't worry i am not the people who complain about grammer and all the silly stuff , not everyne is a native english speaker so is me
Skyline with stage 3 tuning, 'port polish' and racing chip. Smashing Grand Valley circuit... Life doesn't get any better as a 9 year old! Such memories!
Port polish is actually a thing, polishing the inlet ports reduces the drag of the air/exhaust gasses in the chamber.
This game still has the best replays to this day!
Ah, the hours and hours I've spent on GT3... to this day, I listen to Just a Day and other GT3 songs while driving, forever in my heart

I love this song so much that I listen to the regular version, the live version, the official video version, the low mp3 quality version and then come to watch this video to round it off and suck the maximum out of it. What an awesome fucking tune, will never get sick of it!!

I extremely miss Smokey mountains I always raced in arcade witte the xsara against the impreza or the Lancer... Midfield raceway was amazing but in my opinion Smokey mountains broke the barrier...

My favourite game ever made. GT3 is so awesome and is my childhood game because when I were little I put so many hours into this masterpiece and I'm glad I have a PS2 to play GT3. I can say that this game is my bitch
While the Gran Turismo series still continues to be great to this day with fantastic visuals. Gran Turismo 3 will still forever be their concord moment and this intro sealed it as something of epic proportions. This came at a time when this sort of detail was unheard off. There really was nothing like it back then. These days realistic graphics are so common we almost take them for granted. It would be a long time coming for anything to be quite as ground-breaking as this. :D

i was 6 years old when i played this game first, was able to play it thanks to my older brother, i was amazed by the graphics and gameplay, i loved the corvette mazda 787b and ford gt the most. it was a incredible time and now i sit here 16 years later watch this video and all the memories come back :') i still love motorsport and cars today, maybe because of this game. (i played gt3 gt4 gt5 and now gt sport)
