  • Finding the art in nature is something that I absolutely love to do and wholeheartedly embrace it. It can take days, weeks and even months before the jackpot is hit, but I never get bored of the search of a great image. I find that there are many three star images in my photography and fairly frequent four star images, whereas the five star images are rarely encountered. In this video I go in search of three new images to form a tryptic for my gallery at the end of the video. Whether they are three, four or five star images is up to you.

Another wonderful walk in the woods with you Simon. It was around the 15 minute mark of the film I realized I had a permanent smile on my face from the get go, such is the admittedly passive joy your work brings. Very nice images of course, but mostly the journey with you through the woods....such a delight. The last image - and I know the colour palette is different - reminds me of an impressionist painting à la Van Gogh....the "sky" behind the dark "tree branches", very painterly and evocative. Wonderful movement in that "starry sky". Great eye Simon. Keep on keepin' on.

So often it seems that you go out with a "vision" that doesn't materialize because conditions aren't quite right, but then a surprise arises that results in a great image. Photography is nothing if not serendipitous.

I think my biggest issue isn't with taking the photos, or creativity, it's not being able to do what I want in lightroom or photoshop with the photo. No real videos explaining or teaching color grading or how to do specific things exist tbh. Love the video btw, gives me a whole new perspective I've never thought of before. Great inspiration

    • @SimonBoothPhotography

I’m not the best at teaching these things and I always feel that every image has its own set of processing needs, which is why I don’t agree with presets. But I agree, the people who are notable photographers should start a channel and show us how they do it. That being said, some do but the charge for it.

I am SO pleased to see you out in the wild again. I'd really missed that absolutely unique mix of photography and sensibility for/knowledge of nature. I was particularly struck by your emphasis on the natural placement of the wood anemone. What a strange world we live in that it should be necessary to explain this. So often now when I see a certain type of "unusual" image on Instagram or Facebook I find myself doubting its veracity. From in-field invasive and sometimes destructive manipulations to the good old Photoshop, there are now so many ways to fake things that belief is often a matter of faith more than certainty. The opposite is sadly true as well. When I find something remarkable, I'm often reluctant to show it for fear it'll be considered a manipulation of some kind. As has been the case more than once. I love playing with images in Photoshop and often what emerges is a long way from the raw image I downloaded from my camera. But the result is, I suppose, closer to art than photography (or is photography just many shades of art?) and I would never dream of passing it off as "natural".

I really don't know why I felt compelled to point. that out? Perhaps i felt it was too good to be true?
