    Damn, I agree with you! I am a fresh graduate and new to working. It's really challenging! Work is hard, and I often miss Vlive broadcasts now... But I get through it because BTS makes me want to live my life more earnestly. They made me want to do better and work harder, not only to buy BTS stuff, but for my self-growth as well. When I want to quit and give up, I always think about their message and how I can't call myself an army anymore if I give up. I discovered BTS during my last years of college, and they really helped me pull myself out. I stopped complaining about my problems and being miserable, and I took actions on what I really want to do. I really am grateful to them. I discovered BTS during the moments I needed it the most.

      That's amazing. Thanks for sharing your experience! It's quite incredible to think about the impact they had on so many people around the world. As for Vlive I hope you are catching the replays with the channel+ at least 😉

    And I really like that BTS has made you think about taking care of yourselves more. And I really agree with the part about wanting to know the why and how people do things.
    This was such a nice video, thank you! ❤️

    I first discovered BTS in 2014. Seeing their growth, and how they consistently work to improve themselves, is both inspiring and makes me a proud fan. I agree that behind videos really help fans appreciate the amount of effort they put into performances. Also, when I rewatch old videos, it makes me realize how far they've come. I loved Jhope's mixtape, but I appreciated it so much more when I saw how hard he was working during the Wings world tour and knowing he had no previous rap experience when he entered Bighit. And, our baby JK is all grown up. He drives now and makes beautiful videos for his fans. I'm proud of all of them. I could go on and on...

      Minidance I became obsessed with kdramas first. I was reading some online comments about a drama I was watching and ppl in the comments were talking about an idol. So, I became curious and started watching kpop videos on YT. I asked my friend for recommendations. She was an international student from Indonesia studying in the US. She had been listening to kpop since elementary/middle school. She told me "this is the most talked about rookie group right now and they were popular even before debut." That group was BTS. I guess it's true that they were more popular internationally.
      As a long time fan, I'm so so so proud. I still remember when they all lived in one room together and it makes me emotional how far they've come ㅠㅠㅠㅠ but, they're still so hard working and humble. I think their solo songs have really showed their enormous growth and their continuous effort to improve. When I first saw Jimin's Lie performance, it made me think back to No more Dream era. When they first debuted, he was not a member who would catch my eye, as much. But, now he really commands any stage. He is such an amazing performer. I can't believe he was almost cut from BTS. And, when Jin first debuted he was not very confident, so I found the lyrics for Epiphany even more meaningful. I'm so proud of each and every member. I could go on, but my post would be even longer hahahaha

    • @Minidance

      Your friend from Indonesia was definitely in the know! I wonder how BTS became the hot rookie especially among the international fans. What you said about Jimin and Jin, I totally agree. Thank you for sharing your induction story! 😉

      Minidance yes, she definitely knew what she was talking about. From what I understand, BTS had a lot of predebut content, much more than other groups, and fans helped spread the content by word of mouth. I know Satoori Rap made it on the news before they had debuted. Also, they interacted with fans on SNS even before debut. I think it also helped that RM and Suga had underground experience and JH was know on the dance scene. My friend prefers k-hip hop and she follows that scene pretty closely. Even in 2014, when I was first getting into kpop, I was surprised that they didn't sound like anybody else. No one else on the kpop scene was as hip hop heavy as BTS, at the time. Even though their style changed and evolved, their debut style really made them standout.

      I can relate so much to you and what you said! I also started stanning BTS in 2014 and ever since I have been their fan. I was just 12 when I got into K-pop back in 2012, then in 2013 when BTS debuted I checked No More Dream MV and I liked them (but not enough to Stan). I decided to give them some more time and see what else they could bring on later. Time passed and I forgot lol then in 2014 when they got their latest comeback at the time with Boy In Luv, one of my closest friends at school told me to check them out. I didn't remembered the name of the group but they sounded familiar. When I got home, I researched No More Dream and immediately recognized the heavy hip-hop style. Then, I watched We are Bulletproof pt.2, and then Boy In Luv. Just with Bulletproof pt.2 I was already hooked by their style and music. I was just a 14 years old teenage girl who was into "tough bad boys cool aura" at that time, so I found BTS perfect and very different from what I was used to in the K-pop world. Now here we are...4 years later. I have outgrown my past self but I still struggle with my insecurities but now I have new life motivations and dreams thanks to BTS. I literally grew up listening to BTS lyrics and music. From 14 to 18, now I am a freshman in college, aspiring medical worker and proud ARMY! It's very tough now to keep up with all the new content BTS and Big Hit uploads, but so far I am good. I have Twitter and RUclips in check, and just need to catch up with VLive. Hopefully, I would finish before Bon Voyage 3 comes out :)

    I love how thoughtful and insightful you all are. BTS truly is an inspiration and a huge pick me up on a rough day. The way they choose to live their lives makes me want to live with much more intention and impact. As much as I love their music, watching them grow as people has been the most amazing part. It's one of the reasons why I can say that I will follow them as people and artists in the future, no matter what they decide to do as a group or solo. Every one of them has taught me something valuable that has changed the way that I think and/or live.

    I have been an army since the no more dream era :) Its almost 6 years now since i've become an army. I feel so blessed to have bts and their music growing up with me. Themselves and their songs are such an inspiration, motivation, and a healing to your soul. You can relate a lot to their songs when you understand the lyrics and you can just dancing to it even if you dont understand. I love to read and to discuss about a lot of things and i really love because they are talking about politics, self esteem, and more in their music. Tbh. Kpop isnt a mainstream but i dont think that people should only listen to the music that they understand. Music is an art. And art is beyond any culture and language. So sad that some people still judge Kpop negatively.... I hope that people should try to explore more songs without thinking much about the language or country. And to minidance thankyou for all the videos, you've worked hard :)
    To all army out there, I purple you guys. 💜

Back then i only knew super junior and girls generation and im not into kpop tbh. Then in junior high school, i started watching kdrama like city hunter, bff, etc. And a lot of my close friends are kpopers. And that made me learn about them... EXO were famous tho. Hm then i discovered BTS and their no more dream mv and yeah its a long story...

I was a good student tbh (a long time ago)😂. I went to school and followed a lot of math and science competition and olympiad. A nerd maybe. The second reason is im not into super junior and girls generation, and i thought kpop is weird back then. And there are so many prejudices about kpopers. Anyway, im glad that ive been a kpopers, at least i spent my money on wifi and my time fangirling while a lot of my friends spent their money clubbing, drinking, and smoking.

    From what I understand, kpop is made for an international market in mind. Most Korean do not listen to kpop, aside from young fans in 10's and 20's. Do you think there is a bias against kpop in the domestic matket? Is that why they became more popular in Korea after the BBMAs? Were ppl more willing to listen to their music after the BBMAs or maybe more curious?

    • @Minidance
      @Minidance  6 лет назад +8

      Ah this warrants multiple conversations and more research. I typed up a huge reply, and here's a short version first:
      Yes, more Koreans became interested in BTS after the BBMAs. Still BTS' music is largely unknown to the general public in Korea. BTS is an interesting outlier, because it goes against the previous notion that K-Pop artists can become popular overseas after gaining big popularity in Korea first.
      And here's the long version:
      There is a stigma against the idol K-pop, for being manufactured, exploitative teeny-bopper. Korean idol music quality and artistic credibility has steadily increased over the years though, and in some cases their music and fashion sets the trend for the general public too. Big Bang is a notable outlier in point, a rare group whose music and styles appealed to both the Korean public and Korean idol fans.
      As groups like Big Bang and SNSD became popular overseas, the prevailing notion has been that in order to succeed in the international market, you need to first build up your name value in Korea. But BTS is an exception.
      Like you said, a subset of the Korean public became curious about BTS after the AMAs in the fall of 2017, and some like Day and I became fans. And then the majority of the Korean public learned about BTS after the 2018 BBMAs. However the Korean public (the vast majority who are not interested in idols or Kpop) primarily know BTS from the news headlines, especially their popularity in the States -- rather than for their music. I doubt most adults in Korea can name one BTS song or a BTS member. I am not saying BTS is inferior in any way at all, but saying that BTS is a different type of outlier.
      As for how BTS amassed significant popularity outside of Korea first, there are conflicting analyses. Some say Kpop is planned and produced for the international market because the Korean market is too small. Others say it was rather incidental that the international audience found it appealing too and then the Kpop producers responded accordingly. Both are true, but I tend to give more weight to the latter.
      It's true Bang PD had international markets in mind from the get-go, but AFAIK his original aim was more at China and he didn't expect to be successful in North or South America for example. My theory is that Big Hit initially produced BTS to have a strong appeal to a relatively small niche in Korea first, but then that niche (hiphop, honesty, teenage) exists in many other countries and BTS happened to gain popularity in that niche across different markets.
      My theories are evolving as I am learning more though, and I hope I didn't scare you off for typing super long reply ;)

    • @frontline327
      @frontline327 6 лет назад +4

      Minidance you didn't scare me away. I found your comments very interesting. I find it surprising that the Korean general public does not know BTS better. When I heard that BTS broke G.O.D.'s old record with LYS Answer, selling almost 2 million albums, I thought it signified that their music was well known. Beyonce's Lemonade is perhaps the most discussed, most critically acclaimed, arguably the most significant US album in the last few years. In the era of streaming, even Beyonce only sold 1.5 million physical albums. I know Korean fans buy multiple copies to collect all the photo cards, which is not a common practice in the US, so maybe there are other factors exclusive to Korea, tho.
      I wonder if China- Korea relations had not deteriorated due to the THAAD issue, if Bang pd would have followed the SM model of China advancement. SUJU and Exo sing their songs in Mandarin when promoting in China. BTS does the same for the Japanese market. I find it interesting that most kpop groups sing in Japanese when they promote in Japan. Maybe it's because Japan is such a specific market? Maybe because it's easier to pick up the language? Most US Armys tho, do not want BTS to abandon Korean in their US advancement. Even if they were to incorporate more English into their lyrics, like in the Mic Drop remix, I think most US fans would be disappointed if they only sang in English. Also, have you ever seen fancams from Latin America, specifically Brazil. They are amazing. The entire crowd can sing every word of every song. I saw an analysis video by another YT. He noticed an increase in moombahton and reggaeton references in kpop songs (KARD, G-idle, Airplane pt.2, etc). He hypothesized that due to the political instability of the Chinese market, labels are trying to target Latin America and the Western market where that sound is more popular. I'm not sure if I buy that theory 100% but it's interesting.
      I just watched the JYP 2.0 lecture. He talked about globalization by localization, producing groups intended for specific markets using native talent. It seems SM is moving in the same direction as well with NCT. I find it fascinating that SM and JYP are using the complete opposite tactics of Bighit. I found JYP's lecture very interesting, but it leaned into the factory made image of kpop. Ultimately, SM and JYP's approach may prove more financially successful. Who knows? But, that kind of system could never produce a globally recognizable group like BTS.

    Hi, as an I-ARMY, I wanted to know what K-ARMYs think of BTS dating (now or in the future). Or at least your thoughts about it. I am really okay with it cuz: 1) they are grown-up men now, and 2) they are worthy of it. I know many fans in general get triggered with this topic, but honestly as a long time ARMY, I just wanna see the boys happy being it the way they choose to live their lives. Since the boys are their own personas, I think fans should be okay with it (with idols dating). I mean, if you really love them as a fan, you want to see your idol happy. But I think possessiveness has become a big problem within many kpop fandoms. I wanna know what K-ARMYs and Korean K-pop fans in general think about this topic. 😀

    • @frontline327
      @frontline327 6 лет назад +3

      Carmen Teresa Saldaña Soto I'm also an I-army, so I can't really answer your question. I agree with you. I would be happy with whoever they dated. I don't think they should forgo personal relationships because they are kpop idols. I think if you're a real fan, you should want them to be happy. Anyway, I hope a k-army will answer your question more accurately. But, after what happened to Hyuna and E-dawn, I understand why idols hide their personal lives. Also, I know after Suga had that "dating scandal" with Suran, she got a lot of hate on social media. I'm sure it was a minority of the fandom, but it was disappointing to see. I'm not sure why dating is considered a scandal...

    • @gniliaoaix646
      @gniliaoaix646 6 лет назад +4

      I agree with you. Idol are a public figure, but before it, they are a human. They have their personal life and i dont think that it is something that should be exposed. Dating is a personal matter. They arent a minor and when they found someone they love, i mean why not. Secretly or openly, its their choice. Dating secretly means you can hide your partner identity as long as you dont get exposed and that your partner dont need to have that useless hate or a sudden spotlight. But dating openly means that you will have more freedom to go to places in public. Its their choice tho.
      But from a different perspective, i can see why idol cant date.
      From the company perspective, idol is an investment and a money maker ofc. For boygroup, most fans are girls and for girlgroup it depends on the concept. The bigger the fandom means income will increase too. But it also means that lot of new people will join too. And as we know most of kpop fans are teenagers and minors tho. A lot of them are immature and thinking that the oppas are theirs. If the company lets idol date whoever they want, the immature fans can leave the fandom cause you know too many boygroups in korea already. They can choose to quit the fandom and join another fandom which mean the company's profit will decrease. As a businessman this is a nightmare tho. Yeah maybe thats why they banned their idol from dating, especially for those who came from big company.
