Wow! Claudia described me exactly. Sitting there watching how slow other people drink, wondering how long I had to wait to get another drink, hoping my partner would go out for a while so I could sneak drink. It is a mental disorder not a flaw in character. I am an otherwise healthy, happy, loving hard working person. She is a godsend. I now see a path forward to being in control. Thank you. God bless you.

@@GoneChatting-iOS yes it works 100% but you have to be compliant and always always take it. After a while it seems pointless to drink because you don’t get any benefit or the drunk feeling. Well I didn’t, I missed the drunk feeling I only drank to get drunk so it was pointless drinking.

I think AA is OK for giving structure to people with disordered backgrounds or troubled childhoods..But I think you've got to have hit total rock-bottom for you to perceive it as working.. This gives me so much hope and I want to spread the word everywhere. Hi Claudia. Thank you for your informative presentation. I went to a clinic, and I was first receiving the injection. Then went to the Naltrexone pill form. I became aware that I could drink on the medication and thought the medication was not helping so I stopped and went back to drinking I have read books, gone to AA meetings but the results were short lived. Had I received the information you have provided on the TSM I may have stayed on the program. All I was told was not take the medication and stop drinking. If you don't have all the right information, how can you make a rational decision. Now after watching your videos, I have hope again. I have gone back on the medication and understand the process and how to incorporate this medication in my program. I trusted the wrong facility.

well right after I started Nal a year ago, I found out I was pregnant. So I abstained throughout pregnancy and 7 weeks of breastfeeding. Baby decided she preferred the bottle and my low appetite wasn’t good for milk production. About the beginning of December I started Nal again and it is working great! I only take the pill if I am going to drink and I end up drinking half what I used to, pre-Baby. Alcohol free days are pretty easy and my favorite beer no longer has its claws in me. Very happy so far! Husband doesn’t drink and he’s very supportive. That helps a lot. He can see the difference.

I want to be rid of it. And I don’t know how I have come to this point because I’ve been without alcohol for months at a time and it wasn’t an addiction. I tried nal in 2015. just made me angry that I wasn't getting 'high'. and the thought of needing a pill to 'control' myself is just humiliating. I'd rather be free wo willpower or medicine. Hope it helps someone else but not for me.

Tried a drink 3 times over 4 days, nasty now! Have not had a drink in 60 days since and do not want one. You gotta get NALTREXONE!!!

@@ThisNakedMind Yes absolutely. I wanted to point out that AA's fundamental premise is that willpower is no use in staying sober - so Claudia's view of AA seems awry. Personally, it sounds to me as though Naltraxone is an 'early resort' rather than a last resort. I always think that AA is more of a last resort. It'd probably save confusion and hassle if Naltraxone etc. were tried before AA. There is a also a big difference between 12 step treatment centers and AA. AA is free for a start (unless you want to contribute for tea/biscuits/venue hire etc.) whereas treatment centres are expensive.

yes it does. I no longer want to drink, ever..with the pill there's no effect so there's just no point. The only thing you're left with is the taste and NOBODY drinks beer because it tastes good (hence the commercial failure of non-alcoholic beers) . I much prefer lemonade these days :)

I just wonder what percentage of people who use Naltrexone, stay sober for a long time 5 - 10+ years. It’s a little difficult to believe they’re doing the deep inner work, introspection, challenging their core beliefs that are required for long term sobriety.

Yes, it should. Look up the book The Cure for Alcoholism, which is a free pdf online. There is a chapter which shows the applicability of The Sinclair Method to other forms of addiction. I wonder if it is emphasized for alcoholism alone because alcohol is both legal and extremely deadly. It doesn't work on the Alcohol itself, just the opioid receptors that the endorphins one generates from drinking bind to and which is probably the similar process that just about any addiction goes through. It would be a tougher sell to use the Sinclair method with Heroin because of its stigma, danger and illegality. But for overeating or sex addiction or gambling, I really do wonder why there's not more promotion of The Sinclair Method.

I don't agree with this. Maybe SOME alcoholics find naltrexone useful. But I see it as way to drink WAY too much to try and obtain the drunken effect to the point where they are sent into poisoning. Clarification should be made that this should be done WITH the 12 step program. Our willpower isn't enough!!!
