Heck yes, they need reparations and India need their items back! I am so angry that our education system teaches us nothing about the British in India - because it's shameful more than likely! Seriously, the older I get and the more I learn about how we treated people and how we continue to treat people makes me so ashamed to be British.
    Another great video, Sammy!

Fact Check : 1. Dr Sashi Tharoor at one point of time stood for elections to the post of UN Secretary Genera but he lost to Japan I think.
    2. We don't hate British
    3. We hate what is being taught in Brit schools. As Sashi says that in Brit schools there is hardly anything being taught about colonialism.
    4. Jalianwalah bagh massacre still brings tears to our eyes. General Dyer was actually rewarded in Britain when he came back.
    5. British museum will be half empty if u send back items looted from India.

@Shobhana Vijayakumar The 1883 British "Famine Code" was updated by an Independent India and renamed the "Scarcity Manual". "India in the 1960s was pathetically dependent on US food aid. Even in the bumper monsoon year of 1964-65, food aid totalled 7 million tonnes, over one-tenth of domestic production. Then India was hit by twin droughts in 1965 and 1966. Grain production crashed by one-fifth. Only unprecedented food aid saved India from mass starvation". Quotation by Swaminathan S. It was the same kind of awakening about my country at an earlier age. What is shocking to me is that you didn't learn anything about the dark side of british colonization and history in school. If you do not learn such things in school, how will you ever be able to not following down the same path again as a nation, not to talk about atonement? How will you ever be able to foresee things going to happen, if you even cannot imagine that your leaders and your military are capable of executing the worst inhumane atrocities? Same with the US by the way, it's even worse.

Not the kind of intended well planned factorylike kind of mass murder Hitler was responsible for, more like accepting the death of millions as collateral damage of his actions in regard to India. And of course doing so he was showing a total disrespect for human life. There are some similarities, but there are obvious differences too.

@@paul8158 I feel that's what makes Germany great. The fact that you apologize for the actions of the past, even though they werent done by you, isn't for the people it was done to, rather your own atonement. From time to time, everyone needs to atone, because we all go wrong sometimes. Similarly countries need to atone for bad actions in their past, especially if they were egregious.
I've been to Europe and I've lived in both Germany and the UK. Even though as European countries, they are largely the same economically, the difference I saw in Germany was that there was large respect of human dignity which was not present in the UK. People were nice and respectful in Germany, unlike the UK. There was a sense of humility inspite of Germany's contributions to the world. Immigrants were treated with respect, there was no Islamophobia to my knowledge or my experience. Socioeconomic disparity was far lesser. It broke my heart to hear and see that nearly 20% of children suffer from food insecurity in the UK, something that doesn't exist in Germany. Healthcare is socialized and far more advanced than the UK.

Shyam chaapalya priyadhaam (black is always agile and sprightly), stated the ancient Sanskrit poet Amrook in one of his 100 poems, in a tribute to feminine beauty. Out of Amrook’s 100 verses on female beauty, 76 praise black beauties. His coeval Brahthari wrote only about dark complexioned beauties; never did he write anything in praise of fairness. Before becoming a saint, Brahthari lived a bohemian life but he always liked it more when he was with a dark complexioned woman....Had we not been ruled by fair-skinned people, we’d never have been conscious about our complexion - which is predominantly dark or wheatish.

To be quite honest here with everyone respectfully here in this comment section, the whole britain was literally made by India's money that they had at that time which was around $40 trillion dollars and that money was spent in making the whole United Kingdom (It includes England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) what it is today, that stolen money is the reason why U.K come under being a "developed country" and India literally lacks behind in everything as well as being considered as a third world country, that colonialism was the reason for so many people even today to be suffering from poverty, I've honestly seen so many people from outside world saying that "India is a poor country" they should honestly learn some history and then open their mouth about it.
Even british people of today's generations gets proud of their so called "London" and think that they don't owe none to anybody, why do you think in the british schools no kid is taught what britain did to India? Simple. They don't want their current generation to have that weight on their shoulders of the black deeds of their incestors and be depressed about their whole life, even quite frankly, start protesting against their own government and people for giving reparations.
India definitely does owe reparations as well their kohinoor diamond that the so called "queen" wears on her old head.

Horseshit bro. Coming from an ex british colony, literally nobody copes this much here. Your math doesn't add up unfortunately, those flat "45 trillion dollars loot" claims lack a proper methodology. Moreover, europe from london to moscow was in ruins in 1945. Cities flattened to the soil, economies ravaged, industries destroyed etc. The europe you see today was rebuilt after ww2.
Another point, india started off with more industries than china in 1947 yet china is the better of the 2 today. Who is to blame here? The UK? No, absolutely not

I don't think it's a narrative by the indian nationalist, rather it's a truth. For those saying that those crimes were committed by the elites and not the commoners, well Britain had a govt. & those who were parliamentarians weren't much sympathetic towards INDIA either. In fact It was the barbarian Churchill, whose decisions led to the infamous BENGAL FAMINE,killing no less than 2 million innocent people coupled with his hatred for INDIA. Every nation has some sort of governing organisation and it's not possible to run any nation directly by its people. The decisions of the govt is believed to reflect common people's intentions, for most of the cases. If the common people were so sympathetic towards Indians, why wasn't there a recognisable voice to cease the bads & wrongs being done to us directed towards your govt or monarch. Why there weren't any cases or trials against those who commited these atrocities. And does anyone keep all the records of the descendants of all those Britishers who did all the wrongs to India and Indians. And is it that all those who did all those terrible things and their descendants are still a distinct recognisable group even among common Britishers, it's not. Or is it that what Britain gained economically from India (looted maybe) back then, helped proper only a certain part of the country. The truth is that if it had been any other commoner, the result would've been the same, because back then you guys were mad just to do anything & everything to help feed your industries at the cost of other's lives & economy, and for most of the part you did it pretty well indeed. All that, what was unethically and inhumanly collected from colonies helped BRITAIN prosper, and i say it again the whole of Britain. And those who seek to hide this fact is simply nothing of a humane nature at all. Today's Britain owes only reparations, economic, to today's India. If reparations were to be asked for the then Indians, then it would've included lives of as many britishers as were killed by them. I dont think if I ask it, you'd be happy either. Now as for the question of other imperialist nations commiting crimes on their colonies, they deserve the same. So it's not at all wrong to say that ancestors of today's britishers shouldn't be blamed. And if you've got a single evidence to show a recognisable part of the then Britain's commoners held even an iota of sympathy for India, I'd be glad. The British traders, crown people, govt people and at last common people, all were equally guilty of the crimes. For those who believe that SHASHI is asking for too much, i guess you must remember that Britain owes many lives too, and we're not asking for it anymore. And for those who believe that they were way more humane, think about it; are you ready to cost the lives of your parents or daughters or wives or kids for a more prosperous life. The best I can say is that we must never forget what happened to us , so that should history try to repeat itself, we can give befitting reply to the invaders and colonisers.

Attempting to hide behind the "elites" to excuse the actions of British colonialism is little different from Germans hiding behind the fact that while they may have marched and paraded for Nazism, they didn't themselves build the foundations of the death camps or marched Poles, Jews, and Romani into them, only a small number of Germans actually did it. It's not a matter of the numbers the collective guilt to remains with the people who did indeed have the capacity to prevent said actions and hold a form of culpability from the benefit of said actions.

Jalianwalah Bag only 130 people died and in Indra Gandhi's time 17000 shiks died and you call British bad people.
Schools in India dont teach how India was doing the same thing that they are blaming the British for.
Right from the Gupta period all the way till British arrived so many lower cast people suffered at least in the British time they had justice.
Women suffered from centuries in India. Sati, child, marriage, dowry Anti women male chauvinist mentality all this was there in India.
Slavery and temple prostitution was all over the place in India.
      Indian Kings looted so much.
No kingdom ever cared to be a nation. It was only the British that brought together India.
The British Brought justice system education monitory system, railways, democracy, parliamentary system medical system etc etc....
even till today we use these system and still blame the British. If they were that bad then how did they come up with this kind of ethics and morals that has become the standards of modern world?
Indians didn't come up with education system The first Hindi dictionary was compiled by a british missionaries
Hindi that north Indians speak is a product of Missionaries.
Sati was first abolished by a missionary 15 years before Raja ram Mohon Roy tried to do some thing about it.
India Practiced Untouchability so medical and medicine system could not have been developed in India. Health workers were treated with humiliation.
They brought revolutionary ideas in the agricultural sector. Before that India was primitive.
they blame the British took heavy taxes. that 's not true the India kings charged more and some time even all of it.
India has been fed lies by the political parties right from the time the British left.
Women rights are a product of British govt.
India also Invaded Shri Lanka and the Maldives during chola empire just for looting purpose. They tried but failed in other places because India was a land lock.
And India never belonged to any one. It belonged to whom so ever ruled it. First came the Dravidian and then came the Aryans and chased them away and then later Greeks and then came mughals and so and so.
Every single country in the world is built on theft!
India should put off their self righteous attitude just like every other country that were ruled by the British. No one is complaining except India. Its a shame.

Its understandable that the schools there wanna bring up their kids making them think their country was the greatest.. I have seen the reactions of other Brits on the same video and they were too reluctant to agree just because they weren't aware of what happened in the past.. so history is always two sided and has to be told both sides of the stories..

I remember watching a documentary years ago on the massacre, and an MP stating that the queen will not apologise for what happened. The lack of responsibility and accountability for the lives lost is disgusting. It really shows what so called 'British values' are. It states that those people did not matter. Lets start teaching the dark side of colonialism, not the so called enlightenment it spread. People forget that there are many British people, like me, whose ancestors suffered. Lol a British woman said some good things about Indians for views and stupid Indians began to think of her as she is honest, open-minded and a good human being. If she is so good, tell her to return the total 45 trillion dollars that her ancestors stole from us.

I am an Indian American, but my 1-year-old nephew is British, they live in Aberdeen, watching you talking about how ignorant British people are about their ancestor's wrongdoings, makes me wonder what kind of education is he gonna get? Keep spreading love Sammy... Peace.

Glad u had the courage to watch this on your channel. Like Mr Tharoor said ... We don't need anything but the fact that the modern UK acknowledge what they did. That's all that Indians on this matter want in return. So good on you for putting this up. Thanks.

I found you really genuine. I have lived in uk for a number of years and felt that the society in general is quite just and fair. People to me were quite good. I still have a lots of fond memories of my English friends. Nevertheless, terrible things did happen in the past and Indians were on the receiving end. Wud like to connect with you to share my thoughts and experience. Chow
