I had no idea about this. Why are we not taught about this in the UK? Is it because the British don’t want to remember such a poignant moment in the past? Yet we’re taught about Hitler and the 2nd world war! I would love to know more about the British history in India!
Hope there’s a way to see this movie in the UK! She’s a badass! X

Inglorious Empire : What British did to India and An era of darkness: The British empire in India are two of the books by Shahsi Tharoor which in my humble opinion is a good place to start learning more about British history in India. Both the books are very interesting , you won't get bored and very informative with facts and sources of the facts to check for reader making them both very authentic books when it comes to studying British history in India.

If you are into fitness and athletics you would love "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" too. It's based on biography of an Indian Olympiad Milkha Singh.
Did Ron tell you about "Baahubali" ? It's also an epic movie, made by the same filmmakers people who have made Manikarnika.
From now onwards, I will definitely tell you all about the new releases. As well as some old films if you don't mind.

Hello Sammy Louise yesterday night I went to watch Manikarnika the movie was amazing but the ending was sad but because it is a Rebellion movie so I know that the ending is gone be sad but in the movie shows that rani Laxmi bai never give up till her death and that time British wanted her head she burns herself in fire at the end but the reality was she was badly wounded not wishing the British to capture her body, she told a hermit to burn it. After her death, a few local people cremated her body. And also a piece of additional information what happened to her adopted son you could find his information on Wikipedia

Their families are just a bunch of thieves.......please also research on people like Christopher Columbus who accidentally discovered america was on his way to India........you can imagine how much developed and advance India was at that time......many people like Vasco da gama, Marco polo, Alexander......are just few example of that......Also research on first university of the world was in India known as taxila and nalanda university where scholars from across the world wanted to come to get an education.....

Through out our childhood we are taught about the pain we went through.People being killed, starved, beaten. Our leaders and ancestor's sacrifice is why today we Indians are here today. Every breathe they took was only towards the independence for our country and sacrificing themselves for our country. They came to our land and they ruled over us for 200 years. People refuse to understand and respect us. Yes, we are upset, angry and it boils my blood when people talk crap about my country but as indians we have always believed in respect towards one another.

Hi Sammy , I watched the movie today on India's Republic Day .. the movie got released yesterday ..
Absolutely fantastic movie which truly portrays the events during 1858 - the bloodbath and atrocities committed by the East India company . The Queen of Jhansi even wrote a letter to the Queen of England through the Company representative requesting just her kingdom to be protected , but the East India company officers never allowed to submitted to Queen Victoria
The Queen of Jhansi then had to wage a lonely war against the company's battalion .. thousands were massacred by the East India company soldiers and the fort of jhansi was just grazed down through canons after canons
Another 6 months the Queen of jhansi tried her best to protect her people but the east India company through their clever tactics took help of some traitors and just crushed the revolt brutally in 1858

Rani Laxmibai, queen of Jhansi was the most fiercest who raised a rebellion against the British East India Company for freedom from their tyrannical rule in the 1850s. She became a pain for the Britishers. She was the first Indian woman who even trained women to take part in fighting the Company troops. Also, she was the first woman to fight against the British East India Company. She died just at the age of 22. Later on the British claimed that she was one of the bravest and fiercest rebel that they had ever encountered. “A man among mutineers”.

Hi Sammy, liked your honest and heartfelt reaction. Keep up the great work. I wrote a post about Rani of Jhansi after I had watched the movie. Consider the Kafkaesque nature of Western civilization: the Queen was killed on the battlefield with a man shooting her from behind and they running through her with a sword. Even as a large army of 40000 Brits , Irishmen and Indians (those loyal to the Brits) hunted down a woman on the battlefield, the press in London printed varied reports on her. Some papers called her the Jezebel Of India, while others sang of charm and the beauty of her figure. Consider this, this woman they were caricaturing was fighting for her people with men in the battlefield, ending up getting killed. It was so unempethatic, so tactless!! There was a Victorian author who even wrote a fantasy novel about her where she was depicted as an enchantress who used to capture men on the battlefield and imprison them in her Harem. In the novel she was killed by a British captive who she ended up falling in love with. Consider the taste of the Sophisticated West. Here's a lady fighting for her child and crown, and this author had the gall to fabricate fantasy stories about her!
