one thing i think vanguard did pretty well is the atmosphere it was actually pretty unique the whole devil vibe was cool hot take i prefer the aesthetic of vanguard than coldwar besides the jellyfish thing on die Also great vid
Oh absolutely, the cult asthetics are so much better than cold war's boring grey military bases and mw3's, orange sky. Vanguard has style and the maps LOOK like they belong in zombies.
Der Anfang was a lot of fun for like 10 minutes. I think Der Anfang (and the general objective based style) would've worked better if there were a crap ton of objectives & more mini-maps to play said objectives on so it doesn't get stale after 1 match.
It's really inexcusable that you can teleport to objectives that are just sectioned off areas from the hub area on both Der Anfang and Terra Maledicda.
After the leaks from CoD its pretty obvious SHG had to crunch this game in about a year. Then in mw3 they got crunched even more in about 8 months. Its kinda crazy.
True, but this mode was actually entirely developed by Treyarch. Along with Modern Warfare Zombies. Poor sledgehammer can't seem to get a full year to make their game.
This video has made me tempted to refownload Vanguard to give that map another chance! Also I agree it’s weird more content creators never really talked about that upgrade system, or gave it the appreciation it deserves.
To be fair, they did add more covenants over time and I think they were taken aback by the OTHER lacking aspects of the game at the time lol. If you like Shi no Numa, definitely re-download. Just be warned to make space on your system for all those gigs 😅
@@CJSanta I originally typed out “if I can free enough space” in my comment but deleted it to keep it focused :’) I forgot how damn big that game was, I really wish they optimised them better.
I’ve always argued the Vanguard round-based maps’ Easter eggs are better than most Cold War Easter eggs. They are still very lackluster but at least have some more thought-provoking steps like Simon Says on The Archon.
I did The Archon easter egg for the first time for the footage of this video, that step took me a few rounds before I got it right. No cold war egg gave me ANY kind of challenge lol 😆
That's why Shi no Numa Reborn works so well. They put a new area on the map with pack. Along with all the new mechanics I listed here. It's actually good stuff 😃
Geuinely think if vanguard had done “reborns” for all the waw maps instead of what we got it would actually be seen a nice small entry for zombies fans
Just found your channel by the grace of the algorithm, and it's always nice to see people appreciating the scant few good things about Vanguard. I still personally prefer Shi No Numa to The Archon because of personal bias, but I will concede that the buffed Decimator is not only cool but incredibly powerful with the shortened cooldown compared to its original iteration. Overall, I feel what we had here was a strong basis for a renewed round-based experience going forward; from the consolidated currencies, covenants, reprisal of Rampage Inducer, strong artstyle/visual cohesion and the removal of weapon rarity in-lieu of keeping PaP tiers. Great video!
I'm happy you enjoyed the video, but I too agree that shi no Numa Reborn is better. I just wanted to highlight how fascinating it is that we have two maps with the same layout, but they couldn't play more diffrent. Due to mechanics and modes. I think shi no Reborn is definitely the best map in the game, but the Archon has the better boss fight for sure. And it is nice to have all 3 wonder weapons on the map. 😁
I'm glad you covered the positives about Vanguard Zombies because there is genuinely a lot of good nature this game tried to attempt. Activision just got in the way which sucks because this game had some great ideas. Personally, I loved the idea of upgrading your perks in-game, the covenant system, the cult and devil aesthetic, the idea of dark aether gods. It's such a shame how overlooked these aspects of the game mode are. Content creators really didn't cover these elements of the mode enough, other than Milo. Definitely not a good zombies mode, but the point is it had a vision and some clever ideas to bring to the table.
Yes I agree, I try to always find the good in the bad. And while the objective maps are bad the round based are not because of the unique ideas Vanguard brought to the table. Such a shame mwz didn't even bother to include them.
@@CJSanta Fr bro, that's one of the reasons I avoided MWZ because they completely ignored perk upgrades and in fact made it worse by keeping your perks after going down. They also didn't bother with the covenant system again which sucked. Thanks for the reply!
Vanguard Zombies is on paper more interesting to me than Bo3 and Bo4 cause of the Nazi occultist story you have going. It fit way more with WaW and Bo1 storytelling aswell
They just gotta give us more things to unlock within the main gameplay loop. CW and VG covenants were a massive step in the right direction. Still, revert Der Wunderfizz or remove it, it was meant specially for hardware limitations ( according to Blundell ).
I wouldn't trust blundell as far as I could throw him BUT yes the gameplay needs things to work towards and the covenants are a great thing. Also something I forgot to mention, if you do the easter agg and beat the boss fight, IT DOESNT END YOUR GAME! 😮
I also think Vg did a really good job with the art direction and atmosphere. I mean... MrRoflWaffles made so many trailer debunking videos, connecting the initial Vanguard zombies trailer to Cold War, making theories... it really got me and a lot of other people excited for the game! The map's atmosphere is 100% there with Der Anfang (aside from it literally being Multiplayer maps; not made for zombies). I would even argue Archon has decent atmosphere, mainly in the boss fight arena. Honestly imagining this art direction with unique handcrafted RBZ maps (not multiplayer / singeplayer maps), and the storyline quality of older zombies, vanguard could've been really good.
Talking about what this did right in the games that they got wrong is what can improve future games. Wish the random thing with choices was how the Cold war wonderfizz worked. (Also if they made you rebuy a perk to go from base to fully crystal upgraded one)
I loved a lot of the vanguard mechanics. The only things I didn't really like were deadshot and alternate ammo types being tied into the covenant system, only the 5 perks on every map, and the lack of weapon blueprints like cold war had. Also you make great videos and this one is no exception
at launch vanguard was boring, but when i came back to it in season 4 for shi no numa, i had so much fun with the zombies, all the stuff that didn't work on the first two maps worked perfectly with shi no numa and the archon. the game promotes going for higher and higher rounds to get more powerful stuff, it rewards you for exploring the maps. as much as i love cold war zombies, there wasn't really a good reason for staying for high rounds (other than just going for them like older games) in vanguard, the higher you go, the better stuff you get. i like that, recently i got to round 55 in vanguard in a public match and it was so fun. i never got bored once, even the super sprinters are easy to take down in vanguard because of how powerful you get. it is a very rewarding game. shame treyarch and sledgehammer got crunched hard, vanguard zombies was only made in two months and it showed. by the time the zombies found it's footing in season 4, it was too little too late.
I love the rampage inducer and covenants in the gameplay loop. for me what I would have change would be to use the full 10 attachment slots of the weapons. shi no numa was fun enough for me to get dark aether camo lol
@@CJSanta yeah if Vanguard actually had round based in Der Anfang then the game would prolly have done better than CW like it was all there to be like another WW2 Zombies mixed with WaW/Bo1 story but man it's honestly sad the missed potential.
