Very good work, the final work is not particularly spectacular, but we must appreciate that it has been the rebirth of an operational bike, easy to maintain and bomb-proof. That said, great job. I like it.
I am amazed that vertical dropouts dont have a derailer hanger to add a tensioner. All that effort to paint it and you just ziptie brakelines to it. But that front rim and brake are goodstuff.
Firstly thanks for the comments on my RUclips Video :) The frame you have there is a taiwanese catalogue frame meaning many companies used the same frame and put there own branding on it, paint jobs, tweaked the gussets abit etc. Here's a few bikes that used very similar to yours Planet X - Jack Flash (early 2000s model), Pirate - Billy Bones, Bikeman - Gral etc. I am not sure what one yours is but those are basically the same frames with just some tweaks to the design slightly. Good frames though and nice video, I've Subscribed to the channel :) Cheers and keep shredding haha
and if you disassemble the new freewheel you'll find there's not much difference with the Chinese brand... Why spend money when you have the skills to restore?
@@jase6709 from my experience, that is very untrue. For one, the higher quality models have real dedicated slots for tools as they were meant to be removed and put back on. The cheaper models are meant to be put on at the factory and say good luck to whoever has to deal with it next
Great video! However, I would recommend tightening the chain a little more to prevent slippage, chain slapping, and chain jumping. I ended up with a nasty scar on my leg from my chain skipping and my foot slipped of my pedal 😅. This is just a recommendation, I just wanted to let you know. Still an amazing restoration and the bike looks sick!
Wow such a cool bike I wish we could get some bike nerds in here to figure out what it is im kinda a bike nerd but it soo hard to tell with dj bikes bmx and hard tails sometimes especially if they have been painted a bunch and dont really have stamps and what not. definitely looks like the beasts they used to make in the early 2000s with those gussets that was big on old school bikes then seemed to come back in the early 2000s. late 90s early 2000s bmx bikes were just tanks and no one rode smooth just bashing into everything lol.
It kind looks like this TwoFourtyThree dj bike some guy is selling locally maybe same brand different model haha I dunno back in the day there was all sort of specific frames guys would build into dirt jumpers before they made dirt jumper specific frames and completes.
Its not kona, previous owner used white marker to write some things on the frame, so thats not the brand of the bike just something stupid that previous owner wrote
Strange how painting the bike and its appearance are more important than actually using the correct tools or properly servicing the fork... And without a chain device, that chain will come off continually. Rule number one in a bike shop- don't clamp the frame. Always seat post. Very good attention to detail with the prep, but get the mechanics right otherwise all you effort, of which there is considerable, is wasted. Someone should donate you some old parts, you really could do some good restorations as you have the dedication. But buy the tools.
How the heck. .. The brakes and tires are worth more than you paid for it by themselves. I'd have tons of bikes if they were all this good at that price.
What kind of primer and paint did you use for the lower part of the fork (10:59 to 11:31)? That paint job looks amazing; I've never seen a rattle can paint job turn out so good. In the closeup at 20:44 I don't see any orange peel at all; they look perfect, like a factory paint job.
Thanks, it does look good especially for rattle can pain job, but it's not perfect. There is still orange peel, you just can't see it on camera. I don't know what primer it was, it was a basic primer for metal (it was only couple bucks). And paint was a standard gloss black can. All together it was really cheap paint job, but it turned out good.
@@MaximRecoil black paint on fork was from Lidl(thats like european walmart),their own brand but i don't know where are you from tho and if you have Lidl there
@@Nexmtb Okay, thanks. I'm in the US so no Lidl around here. I'd like to have some of that paint though; not only did it come out really smooth, but it looks like a really nice, deep black color. A lot of rattle can black paint is more of a very dark gray color than a deep black, and doesn't look very good.
I was thinking about it, because it looks better that way, but the day that i was sanding it and painting it i was in a big rush so i ended up not doing it.
@nikhiltewari444 previous owner used that derailleur as a chain tensioner. I later removed it because the chain fitted perfectly even without any tensioner

put a chain tensioner on there or the chan will fall off
the top portion or the stantions
oil goes in the lowers of the forks, and also in damper (from the top) and in some forks also in spring assembly (also from the top)
