The Trenchcoats will never go out of fashion, they're timeless key pieces and I'm glad I bought one three years ago at a reasonable price point. Burberry has become crazy expensive with the new designer on board.

Well… nowadays there is a lot of debate about the quality - or the lack of it - of luxury brands, clothes that can’t last a wash, poor materials and second rate tailoring etc. If you actually wear Burberry you would know that their overall quality is consistent and still worth buying, if you care about longevity of your clothes. For everyday items I don’t see any other luxury brand that can match Burberry quality wise.

When Christopher Bailey was the head of design Burberry was fabulous…when Tisci took over soon went down hill

Totally agree. Bailey was the perfect fit for Burberry. I bought an item or two nearly every season when he was running the show, now I don't find anything I like.

A have a Burberry trench. Yes, it’s held up over the years, but there’s nothing special about it. I could have spent a fraction of the price and still had a cost of similar quality. Now that I know it’s not special, I don’t want another one. I’ve lost interest in luxury after all of the scandals, especially Dior spending $57 to make a bag they sell for $2700. I think every brand probably prices similarly.

No I think that Burberry has gone down the toilet. I feel the checkboard pattern does not resonate with a lot of people these days. And how many times can they really reimagined the pattern and make it fun and intriguing to new customers? And the prices on the handbags are beyond overpriced. And the brand in a whole. Hasn’t had anything good to offer in years. Fantastic video by the way

I’d design Burberry on some Asian Traditional and new elements and vintage to make something people liked, to sport and gala

Burberry made one BIG mistake. They allowed the trench coat and the Burberry check to become too quintessential to the customers. They did not trademark cotton gabardine...nor the trench pattern. Everybody and her aunt can go and buy a pattern for Burberry trench coat for a couple of bucks and make it at home. Any factory can copy Burberry patterns/styles.
Another grave mistake was trying to be revolutionary. If they kept to making traditional clothes and refused to hop on the modern fashion bandwagon, they would probably do much better then they do now with all the fancy nonsense. People would connect them with high-quality coats: "Oh, you need a trench coat? Buy Burberry. It's pricey but nobody else makes coats like Burberry." That would distinguish them from all the other fashion brands.

Burberry has lost it’s shine. They need the right designer to capture people’s hearts. 🥰

I wish Burberry would invent a fabric that can still give the classic look yet machine washable. I hate the fact that I spent so much money on a trench coat that I can’t machine wash it…😅

I agree with you on the check pattern… it’s overused and a bit obnoxious. I disagree on the praise of Tisci. His designs were too focused on creativity and forgot the consumer who can and who is buying the product. Many of Tisci’s designs looked like the clothes were wearing the models vs the models wearing them. I like the return of some of the darker colors and more fitted silhouettes, but you’re right, these are boring and IMO overpriced. Burberry of Christopher Bailey was a sweet spot. Consumers could wear most items without looking too weird and still have their presence noticed. Burberry needs to become more consumer centric and stop trying to push its creative ideas that do not resonate… sales are proof of this. Lee’s bag fascination are fine, but what’s up with the closure? That doesn’t look premium or classy. Also, why get a bag from Burberry? Get a trench/out wear and maybe an outfit from Burberry and look to other brands for bags. One brand cannot do all things well.

the new designer is loud, the design code of the house is quiet, absolute disaster
and the marketing isn't English enough, despite the whole Old Money WASPY thing going around

IMO Burberry lost its roots completely. Currently they offer 4 ugly, overpriced trench coats in only one color ("honey"). they would be more popular if they concentrated more on their heritage.

It’s hit a rough patch, as all fashion houses do! Every single fashion house hits a rough patch from time to time! You speak as if this has never happened to no one except Burberry. Tom Ford had to once rescue Gucci. Yves StLaurant had to once rescue Dior. Burberry will be ok and pull it together. It’s still a timeless fashion house. Out of fashion? Boring? Geez! You talk like they need to go out of business. SMH …

Burberry Gabardine coats are still gold standard trench coats, but you only need one. I don’t repurchase trench coats.

daniel lee just isn’t the right fit. the quality has always remained consistent with BURBERRY. part of the problem is their marketing under this creative direction is so schizophrenic, unsettling and just plain cheap looking. when i receive an email from them i’m not compelled to even open it because they’ve looked so cheap and blah. their push for new (old) logos and branding is just wrong! if DL were to go out on his own or to some other (maybe smaller) house i believe he’d be celebrated. CB and RT at least brought some light to the brand. DL just isn’t very inspiring…. and NO, getting rid of the CHECK is not a good idea. that’s just stupid!

    • @jrh80
      @jrh80 2 дня назад +1

CB was great because he understood the assignment: Make it British, make it modern, make something people want to wear and aspire to own. RT bastardized the brand with his modern push that felt generic in approach. Without the check, it could have been any other brand. You are right. DL is not right for the brand, but the brand needs a strong insights department to make sure these designs resonate with consumers. Creatives can let their mind go wild, but if no one buys, then does it matter?
