I remember one year, we had a HUGE fire on the other side of the mountain our school was up against. The winds were blowing the smoke over the mountain which resulted in horrible air quality, so all of us kids had masks on at school. My parents got pissed that the school didnt cancel that day so they came and pulled us out early, by the time they allowed us to leave, half the school was being pulled out. No school the next few days because no one would being their kids in. After that, we always had fire days on bad air quality days. California sucks like that.

@@BarginsGalore I've also had snow days, again against a mountain. The fire days are horrible. You cannot breathe, and it hurts. It makes you feel like crap days later. I'll take 15 inches of snow over breathing in smoke anyday.
In canada you might get a snow day at like -40 calceus (ass snapping cold) when the roads are impassable from snow. These days dont really happen. Maybe once every few years. You just get over it and walk to school pretty much

I live in northern California where all the power outages are and my high school has been closed for 3 days now. I would much rather a snow day than not have power.
I mean, I get it, fire is faster and less predictable and could be more dangerous, but coming from someone who has live through getting 2 feet of snow and then an ice storm that covered everything in 1/4" of ice and was without power for 4 days in -30 degree weather with no fireplace, I disagree lmao.
Looking up Cushing’s Disease In Dogs just now really enlightened me with regards to Kermit, because it literally messes with the chemical in a dog’s brain that allows them to respond to stress. So Kermit is, literally, incapable of regulating his emotions at all. Which now makes total sense why he cries all the time. Poor bud. He’s trying but he literally can’t... even try at all.

Kermit might benefit from soaking his feet in epsom salts. It will help with pain but its also antibacterial. Ive used it for my 5 lb pup when he was sore after colliding with another dog. Bentonite clay might help too. When my dogs paw got stung, I covered it in clay (its porous and absorbant) and he didnt even swell up. He was walking fine within 30 min. Im allergic to mosquitos so when they bite be I explode, but if i get clay on it asap I only end up with a barely noticable (non-itchy) bump
Also wanted to mention that a lot of those firefighters are prison inmates who are being paid 1-2 dollars an hour. If they survive and are eventually released from prison, they will not be able to apply to be firefighters because of the laws against former inmates.

Yo! As a Californian I'm so mad about this. Like I totally get this and would die on this hill of being proactive about brush or doing controlled fires but NO there's some dumb people out here who don't like it so I swear Cal Fire does the best they can to use a brush/wild fire to clear as much dry and dead brush as possible while protecting as much property as possible but obviously it's much more wild than anything else so that's just my theory on how these California fires get so rough
We have those same PSAs about brush and management here in Wine Country. And we always have, but the winds get strong, hot, and dry in a place that dries out naturally every year and especially because of the 6 year drought.... yes we should have invested in burying lines decades ago but making jokes and insinuating we aren’t responsible or proactive is fucked up
I can kind of relate. I'm from Alberta and when our fires got really bad a couple of years ago all you'd see or hear is people rolling their eyes at 'stupid Alberta on fire again'. When the people in your your home are losing everything, and escaping with their lives...i dont know, I can't laugh about it. I think a lot of it has to do with where you're from and the preconceived ideas your fellow countrymen have regarding your State or Province. I know in Canada people seem to dislike Alberta and think Albertans are ignorant and irresponsible. There was a 'they kind of deserve this' tone. Is it possible that people harbour prejudice, conscious or unconscious, against California and Californians and this is the reason for what feels like unfeeling comments? Obviously no one ever intends to be mean or sound callous. Things people say that are meant to be light hearted can fall a little heavy sometimes completely by accident.

Thank you so much for calling out UCLA lol I’m currently a UCLA student and I can literally see the fire from my apartment roof and UCLA is just like yeah everything is fine... like what? Classes were cancelled Monday but classes started again today and people literally were in traffic for hours trying to get to school and missed midterms and stuff because of it. Love you Jenna and Julien, y’all are helping me get through this rough midterm/ fire season 😭💕
