  • What kind of weather should you tell the dictator to expect? "Hail, Caesar." Join Cody as he engages in this game of the Roman Civil War from Columbia Games. Will it conquer your tabletop? Or will you just say "Et tu, Brute" on game night? Let's watch!

    Can't wait for Pompey the Great ( exactly the same game, but with Pompey written on the board etc)

    I have played several of Columbia's block war games. I still think this is my favorite.

    Interesting-- the Jupiter card is different in the online Steam version of the game (Blocks! Julius Caeser). It just knocks down an adjacent group by 2 and augments yours by 2. The hard-copy version is more of a Hammer of the Scots switch-a-roo card which, imo, is kinda gamey but fine I suppose :)

    Wow I totally missed this and the component quality was one of things that kept me away from this game!

    It looks a bit as if there is not enough space in the cities for a larger number of blocks.

    Player 1 plays selected card, moves, levies….then Player 2 plays card, moves, levies…then combat occurs….correct?

    • @TheDiscriminatingGamer
      @TheDiscriminatingGamer  4 месяца назад

      I believe combat occurs on each player's turn.

    • @Fontzig
      @Fontzig 4 месяца назад +2

      That's correct.
      Example from rulebook:
      Caesar plays 2/1 card
      Pompey plays 2/2 card
      Caesar is player 1 because He wins ties.
      So Caesar moves 2 then 1 Levy
      Then Pompey moves 2 then 2 levy
      Then Battle phase where you resolve battles in the order chosen by player 1.
      If there was caesar, move - levy - combat
      And then pompey, move - levy - combat
      Pinning would never occur and thats a big tool in this game.

      This one is one of my favorites. Also, Columbia Games' Napoleon 4th Edition is awesome.

      History is usually considered to start around 3000 BC when writing really gets going... I actually think we should move year zero to then and call now 5024.
