I truly don’t think people realize how amazing it is that at 52 years old you did 20 clean reps of 315 and made it look easy while talking throughout and after the set.
Ur the Coach Wooden of fitness. U preach consistency, focusing on the fundamentals and deep knowledge. Always intense and intentional in all ur activities. Always timely content 🎉🎉❤ love it!!
Awesome to hear some of your thoughts! I used to run5km/day until I destroyed my knees. After watching your posts I realized there is another way!! Between sets I do a couple of burpees( with jumps) and minimize rest between sets I am in my best shape despite 59 yrs old!! Thank you Paul!! You make it simple. MINDSET!!!
Oldschool bodybuilders would say that lifting weights with high volume, high intensity, & little rest would have a cardio like effect. This video is the best explanation of that.
I love your candor and your exercise work ethic is OFF THE CHAIN. I appreciate how you push yourself and never give up. Mad respect for you Paul! I’m 60 and pushing to be 52 like you 😊!
As a lifter for 18 years, I finished my first and probably last Ironman 70.3 this year. With endurance training, you can challenge your mental barriers and overcome physical suffering way easier and more than with lifting (except for few people like Tom Platz). Applying this dedication to lifting combined with proper recovery and nutrition (essential for professional athletes), I've no doubt that your body can be achieved naturally. Very few have the discipline but that's just additional motivation for me to follow the example that you are presenting. Respect for the 315! Not a huge fan of high rep deadlifting, but man do I love 20-Reps-Squats ;-) Thank you for your content, all the best!
Guys who did gear to be muscular have no muscle memory . Once they give up gear their muscles get smaller. Guys who do it naturally if possible can layoff and hold alot more muscle. Platz was huge but short in stature. He's small and his skin is cringing from old age. Nothing is forever. Ask Arnold and Stallone. NO semblance of ever working out
I was skeptical of your claims, but your background and training history gives it proper perspective. 20 rep deadlifts with 315 is impressive, particularly after all the other sets. Good diet philosophy, too. I follow a similar approach. No heavy lifting for me anymore, age 69. I mostly do bodyweight and do burpees and reps for cardio.
im 53. i body build 4 days a week. i just started 150minutes a week doing steady cardio. mix on a treadmill, walking or bike. best thing you can do. it makes a difference.
I wish I've seen this vid in my teens. If you want a natural, strong physique in your 50s and beyond you have to start training in your teens. I mean, It never hurts to start at any age but if you want serious results you have to put in the work early.
I’m very impressed. I’m 63 and just started working out. I’ve lost 50 pounds and toned up. Do you think everyone can achieve the results you have? I think they can as long as they start with a great diet and single minded focus on your body from the age of 8 years old, great genetics and the ability to make fitness a full time career . Very few people can achieve your results without it being overarching focus of they’re lives. Maybe you could do some videos for beginners. Your videos seem to focus on those who are already accomplished athletes, but there are those of us who are trying hard and are at the beginning of our fitness journey.
That’s fantastic. You are well on your way. Where there is a goal, there is certainly a way to achieve it within reason. Everyone responds differently, but if you are disciplined and truly focused, I don’t see why not.
I have been working out consistently for over 40 years. I am 64 years old. I only work out two days a week because it takes that much time for me to recover. I've had hip replacements both shoulders operated on twice and right foot operated on twice. I've been diagnosed with degenerative spine disease. Two of my favorite exercises are dead lifts and squats. Due to low back issues I had to stop doing them a few years back. I would really love to start doing them again. I used a weight belt and straps. I always did proper form. Any suggestions on how I might can start back again? I have tried several different times but the low back pain gets worse.
I'm 50 and recently dropped 130 pounds to finally hit my goal weight, using clean eating and lots of exercise. I lift and run (one mile jogs where I push myself, but not to the point of hating my life haha.) I'd like to get a little more muscle aesthetic. The gains are coming, just slowly. Is my running slowing that progress?
I’m in my 50s and after pneumonia 15 years ago I’m always feeling tired, exhausted, fatigued which became lack of motivation as I know I’m going to be shattered later in the day after a workout. Just wondering if any advice on this as my last PT recommend TRT which I don’t fancy doing as never done any form of drugs.
Thanks for the aspiration and info. Irrelevant question but would really appreciate an answer: what watch are you wearing? Hope it’s not too expensive! It’s beautiful and compliment the look 👊🏽
Sir,as a legend and athlete would you recommend breathing, bracing before a major lift important? Or it's just fine to focus on the technique of the hip hinge and drive through the feet? Thank you for this great video and the highly beneficial advice.
haha, you do not need cardio, and if you wanna do it, try circuit training and jump from one push exercise to one pull exercise with no rest in-between
Yes but Paul.......what about the integrity of your spine and the compressive nature of heavy weights? You re not even wearing a belt! You have an obscenely defined physique but at what cost. I m in my fiftiez too and anal about health and fitness but I dont do heavy weights. Did I say I love the physique!😂

Thank you. I have to admit, it was not easy to talk during.
The gear does that not him
You really must have trouble putting on muscle if you think you need gear to get to his size lol@@HerbertFlowers-l3h
Unbelievable! Straight up beast
Muscle doesn't make the man, man makes the muscle
I really appreciate your honesty, dedication and discipline over these many many years. Truly an incredible inspiration!!
I appreciate that! Thanks💪🏼
Most old guy's are thinking lucrative retirement, not building foolish muscles. Tricks are for kid's.
Thanks for being completely honest, and just driving the point home! Really motivating and makes me want to get back to the gym

Cardio is necessary for overall health, in conjunction with weight lifting.

NICE awesome form. at age 38 man you encourage me to keep pushing bro thanks

I always feel like I'm getting a lecture from my dad when he talks.
Pls do a video on bulking.... trying to gain some weight
P.S. I love the....'internal mechanism' Go Paul! 😊

Im 46 and did 135lbs, 25 reps, 225lbs 22 reps, 315lbs for 18 reps (no straps) and was gassed. - how the eff you speaking while doing this.
Was not easy!
Properly monitoring your heart rate would give us a glimpse how those 15+ sets work. Were you into zone 4? Maybe zone 5 for the very last reps?
Paul do you eat spinach? Maybe you've heard that spinach is high is nitrates, which can have a positive effect on muscular strength.
Once I got into my late 50s I began to realize , due to INJURIES, that using heavy weights was a bad idea.
Very Informative mate 🎉

If your testosterone is low, do it. If you were a diabetic you’d have to take insulin. It’s the same thing. It will change your life for the better.
Wonderful video quality presentation information description performance 💪🏆

Yes, breathing and bracing are extremely important before big lifts. Glad you are enjoying the content.

I like your 10 pounds plastic plates. Impressive 😂
They're obviously 45lb rubber plates. The bar flexes just like it should if there are 6 plates on it, because the weight is real.
