The other thing I do to keep the hashbrowns from breaking apart is to mix the sour cream, soup, butter, salt, pepper and cheese first. Then I carefully fold in the thawed potatoes. This seems to work well for me.
@@fredwiley3731 I have always put very finely chopped onions in the mixture and it gives a nice onion flavor without being crunchy. I never thought of sautéed onions instead of the raw. Hmmmm. I wonder if it is worth the extra step.
Thank you so much for this recipe! I am going to meet my four new foster grandchildren (all aged 13 and up) for the first time Sunday. 💜 It will be a great way to show them how much grandma Penny loves them even though I don't know them! I'm taking a nice mixed salad, too, and cookies for days! 🍪🍪🍪
I mix the sauce first too. I ALWAYS thaw them. I use cream of mushroom soup and the others in my family use cream of chicken. I add some dried minced onions and put buttered Ritz crackers on top just before baking. I don't bake before refrigerating.
My momma made that potato casserole for years. I mix the sour cream, soup, and 1 stick of melted butter together first and then mix it with slightly thawed hash browns and then mix in the cheese. Works great!
I like to substitute French onion dip instead of the sour cream. It gives it a slight onion flavor without adding real pieces of onion. I made this substitute one time when I started the casserole then realized I did not have sour cream. The dip worked wonderfully and turned an already delicious casserole into something even better. The green flecks look pretty too.
I love hash brown casseroles! Our nephew worked at Cracker Barrel during his junior & senior year, he said they do not use sour cream in their hash brown casserole recipe...I enjoy it prepared both ways, with/without sour cream. You can put your thawed hash browns in a salad spinner to remove the excess water...Love your channel! God Bless🙏🏻
I like to shred my own sharp cheddar cheese. I’m making this for Easter. I usually top mine with crushed corn flakes rolled in melted butter. I also like to broil it for a couple of minutes at the end of baking to grown the cheese and corn flakes on top. Yum yum !!! 😋
The only difference in my family's recipe is that we use onions and substitute cream of chicken soup for the cream of celery. There are no leftovers when it comes to cheesy potatoes.
Hey Tammy♡♡♡ Thanks for sharing the Yummy Delicious Hash Brown Casserole ♡♡♡ I put a few crushed potato chips on top. Thank you AGAIN ♡♡♡ GOD BLESS EVERYONE ♡♡♡ HAVE A WONDERFUL BLESSED PEACEFUL Evening ♡♡♡
Tammy!!! I have made this one a zillion times and last time I used those dehydrated hash browns that come in the carton from Sam’s club! I never had the courage to try those until I saw your video on how to use them last year. You remember which ones I’m talking about? You soak them in hot water before you fry them. Anyhow I soaked the hash browns and used them to make this and it turned out the best that it’s ever turned out! I also crunch up a sleeve of ritz crackers and melt butter and toss and sprinkle that over the top. It gets so rich and buttery and super crunchy. I never make it unless we have company in town because I KNOW I’d eat up that whole dang pan! Have a blessed Easter and enjoy your girls being home! Love ya 😘😘😘😘
Ohhh another variation... my sis in law uses French onion chip dip in place of the sour cream in hers and it’s like a whole different side dish! In case anyone wants to add a little different twist. It’s worth a try!
I can see your face and the smile that you don't mind sharing this great receipe with us-this is a casserole that I want to learn to make, and I sincerely want to thank you for your wonderful presentation!
My daughter wants to me to make this for her. We have two Family Reunion get together once a year at the church in Townville and I'm not sure who brings this dish but my daughter will get two spoonfuls of this cheesy hashbrown casserole and she will get any leftovers once everyone is done eating. 😆 She cleans their casserole dish out every year every time. She begs me to make it so now I got a good recipe thanks to ur Nana we appreciate it more than you know. I will have to surprise her with this casserole for dinner next week. I like it too! Im not big on sour cream but I do like using sour cream for dips like the mixed Ranch packets n u add it to a quart size of sour cream and you mix it well n you have ur dip! Well in Idaho there's this gift shop n they make alot of homemade breads, chocolates, cookies, Jelly/Jam from real grown berries and they have this garden ranch dip mix and it's about $6.00 for a small jar. Well my mother in law has parents who live in Blackfoot, Idaho and They always visit this Idaho countryside gift store and They will buy a couple jars 4 us. I get one as well. You only need 1 spoonful of ranch to a quart of sour cream. Its delicious! It is totally different from the Hidden Valley Ranch mix. Totally different. It does taste like the homemade buttermilk ranch that most restaurants make in house from different seasonings. Its so delicious. U can buy online as well. I will have to send you some. They did change to a plastic container from the jars in the last year which I do love and the container is bigger so u get more but same ole great taste n fresh ingredients/seasoning mix. There's also 3 small recipes on the label with measurements to make dip, dressing and to add to recipes so it doesn't taste too strong of that ranch flavor. You will love it as well. I see u like the ranch mix n you have it with ur seasonings in your kitchen and video's. Most like to add ranch mix to their casserole recipes escape a recipe like this. Especially mash potatoes. It's so delicious. Thanks for sharing your recipes with us and our family. We 💙 n support you guys!
Hi Tammy and Chris. This will be a wonderful recipe to have handy. I can’t wait to make it. Thank you for always sharing. I hope you have a blessed Easter weekend coming up. We love you. Stay safe and well!
Daughter cooking this as part of our Easter dinner to go with the ham that we r having. This is a great recipe. My mama used to make it all the time with stuff cooked on the grill. Easy, quick and cooked in oven. What could be better. Thanks Tammy.😁 We also crunch up cornflakes fine and sprinkle the top and dot with butter. The flakes are the best part of the dish.
I made this to go with our Easter ham . The family cleaned the dish and said that I needed to double the recipe. I did use cream of chicken soup and added some dehydrated onion. Thanks for a great recipe Tammy.
Looks so good I'll try it with cream of celery I use cream of mushroom but I'm going to try cream of celery instead thanks for sharing it God bless you Chris family stay safe
Ive heard CB pours bacon grease on in before baking.I quit eating pork 13 years ago so I dont eat certain things there anymore. But I did like it when I used to go alot. Ive made my own version of it since i started cooking 8 years ago. I thought mines pretty goood too.. But i dont use the cream of celery. I will try that next time. Even tho I dont eat pork anymore I still watch your videos that may contain it. I learn alot from you. Thanks And Keep the videos Coming. This Is Melanie again.
I've had Cracker Barrel Potato Casserole. Now I've got to try your easy and delicious looking recipe. I think I can get easy seconds when I want to also. Yummy 😋
Hope you are having a Blessed day/week 💕. I have been cooking since I was 9 years old,am 66 now. Consider myself a realllly good cook (per family/friends). But hon,I adore watching your videos!!! Never too old to learn new tricks❣️ Wondering about using dehydrated hash browns...
Hello from Lexington, North Carolina!❤ I do love that at Cracker Barrel. Potatoes do usually need some salt. This looks tasty!😋😋 I hope everyone is having a good day 😊 Always wonderful to see you here! Love you Tammy ❤🙏
This is how I make mine but I think Cracker Barrel puts onion in there’s. Oh, sometimes I use cream of broccoli for a different flavor, and/or mix some French fried onions into and top it with.
Tammy we have made this exact dish my whole life but with diced and then add onions. we call them cheesy Potatoes in Michigan. when you thaw the diced they stay firm! thank you for all you do and all the joy you'hris have brought to me during covid.
Just love your sweet disposition and your smiling face 😊.. Have seen some of your recipes and it's funny that this particular one should be on your channel today. I actually have hash brown casserole in my oven now! I have onion 🧅 and diced ham in it. Just waiting for the timer ⌛ to go off!! Thanks for your time and and energy. O yes, greetings from Ga.
Funny how so many want to automatically change a recipe when someone either shows or gives them one. I’ll make it like you showed, cream of celery included. Lol. Thank you for another great dish. God bless and Happy Easter.
We're having funeral potatoes same thing pretty much. Delicious potatoes with cheese what could be better and sour cream yummy. Have a wonderful evening stay safe and healthy. Love you guy's. ❤🙏❤🙏❤🙏
I always mix the potatoes frozen. You do not need to get a stand mixer out, though! If you mix the soup, sour cream, and seasonings together first, it really isn’t that hard to fold it into the potatoes and cheese. No need to stir vigorously, just fold it in. It all gets cooked together, anyway,
Hey Tammy you're like a breath of fresh air! I can't wait til I try both the two Easter receipt's. Cherry Congealed Salad and Hashbrown CASSAROLE. You make cooking such a happy and fun time for all of us. I put Chopped Toasted Pecans in my Salad. LORDY MERCY I've been making that salad for so many years my oldest son is 55 yrs old so does that tell you about how long. Not that he has been eating it for that long but for awhile! I make the Blueberry Salad with Black Cherry Jello when I can find it. If not I use whatever is the closest to the flavor. So nice to see you cooking. Have a Blessed Resurrection Sunday for JESUS IS TRUELY RISEN. 🌴☀🕊🎵
I have been tasked by my family to make this dish every Thanksgiving & Christmas, I use the same recipe except I use diced hash brown potatoes instead of shredded, I also add diced onions and top with crumbled bacon, always a huge hit and the first side dish to go.
I top mine with the French Fried Onion Rings at the end of baking so they don't burn. Gives it more flavor. Also put in one package of sliced breakfast links.
I make for Christmas Eve with a few changes. My son calls it cheesy mash. I always make an extra dish to eat for the days following. I never have left overs.
I use the same recipe the only difference is the one I have cook and melt all ingredients except potatoes on the stove top.once all ingredients are all combined pour oven potatoes stir till mixed then bake. That sure looks good Tammy. I think I could eat that entire pan. Thank you so much for making this recipe.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍

Thank You! I was needing another way to cook potatoes with a little different flavor adding the cream of celery and love the hashbrown casserol & twice baked pototoes and it being your recipe I know me and my family will love it. Thanks again and Happy Easter! & Many Blessings.
The other thing I do to keep the hashbrowns from breaking apart is to mix the sour cream, soup, butter, salt, pepper and cheese first. Then I carefully fold in the thawed potatoes. This seems to work well for me.
I was going to say the EXACT same thing D.
I was thinking the same last night. I want to saute some onions in the butter, and then add that to the liquids first.

Wonderful!
How nice!!!
I like to add sautéed onions.
Also I find it easier to combine the sauce ingredients first then add the potatoes. It is yummy!
Yum! Onions do sound great in this!👍
I think Cracker Barrel’s recipe has onions in it.

I always top it with crushed corn flakes & drizzle it with a bit of melted butter! Gives a delicious crunch!
What else sounds wonderful would be some mild green chilis, I always add some to my tater tot casserole so so good!! Y'all have a great day!😊
I love these ideas on the recipe.

I do mine exactly like yours. A family favorite for sure!
Yes. I put a little hot sauce or cayenne in to enhance the flavor but not to make it hot.

I made this and added browned cooked hamburger to the top and sprinkled more cheese on it + covered it in foil! It was wonderful! Thanks Tammy !!

Orrr butter the pan, throw hashbrowns in and bake until golden then add egg mixture.
