Thanks Frank for sending this to me.We recorded the Beach Music Medley in the early 80s with the Embers. My family stayed in Cherry Grove in the early 60s. Jackie Gore, Gerald Davis and I, all on this medley, performed today with the NC Symphony in Raleigh with the Legends of Beach in an incredible show saluting NC music, including beach music. We've got to start doing this medley again. Thanks to whoever put this together. You and Frank H have my gratitude. Johnny Barker
Great music and memories. I stayed at some of these places long ago. I recently found that a guest house we stayed at in the late ‘50’s owned by the Moose family of Albemarle is still there on Ocean Blvd S.
Glad you enjoyed it. Moose's Guest House was advertised as a Pink Stucco Bldg. located at 307 Ocean Blvd. Just South of the Pavilion. Operated by Mrs. C.I. Moose. Phone number 4801 I have a photo and Business card
Wow, my parents stayed at the Parker House and Dayton House before I was even born. I’m 53 now. The Harts Villa was where we stayed as a family until its demolition. After that we went back the Dayton House. It was cool because the owner used to walk around the pool and he always recognized Dad. I miss the old Mom and Pop motels on the Strand.
Remember Lida’s Motel or the Sandman that was owned by the Powell family? The Dayton House, Zeb Thomas, an egg farmer from Monroe, NC delivered his eggs down here, he and his wife (Clyde) scraped up every penny they had when the original Dayton House went up for sale and bought it. I’d say they did pretty well, look at it today. Great video, thanks for the memories.
I could just hug the person that made this video. My Grandma's hotel is on there and the 2 hotels that were our neighbors. I was born there in 64 and lived there until 1977. Thank you so much. :)
I loved seeing the ocean front view of my grandmother's hotel, the Kit Kat. It was so much fun to see so many hotels and motels I used to see on my walk from my grandmother's place to the Pavilion. Thank you.
I remember the Kit Kat being across from the Colonial Inn. Loved staying there for a whole week with 2 meals a day included. No swimming pool, though. Went there many years. I believe along about 25th Street.
We started going to Myrtle Beach in the late 50's. My what a difference it is now. Still love the beach and water. Loved all the little cottages along the beach. Also, loved the Sand Box up in North Myrtle Beach.
As I am getting older (never say old) I remember some of these places and all the fun on that Grand Strand. Truly a unique place and I am fortunate to have enjoyed the music of the time! Shaggin' on the beach, the pad, the boulevard... Oh my, you have made me nostalgic. Thanks for the video and the music. Well done.
Wow - brought back some old memories when I was a mere pup, like The Breakers, The Patricia, Kit Kat, Robert's Pavilion, and later, the Ocean Plaza, The Ship (dorm-like), and the Beach Club, where I got Bo Diddley's autograph on a Beach Club business card in June, 1961 - still have it. Thanks for the hard work.
I did not see the Just Inn which was across from the Wild Mouse Ride. In the 60s, the Asheville NC crowd stayed there every year. My first visit to MB in 1962 and my best friend and I shared a room for $2 per nite each!
Makes me sad. It will never be like that again and that's progress. But my kids & Grands will never know what a fun and "safe" time that was...Krispy Kreme came around in the early mornings door to door selling fresh hot dounuts. A simplier life but it was a wonderful place for family vacations & so looked forward to. First time at the beach for me, I was 4 and then ever since once or more. Now 72 and the very best times and memories.
Thanks for commenting Jan I was one of those kids selling Krispy Kreme Donuts back in 1974-76. We were dropped off at all the hot spots with 10 boxes each to sell. Made alot of people happy!! :)
@@Cathooker2 That's so cool (now you know my age!) It was a wonderful time in our lives and I hope you feel the same. Life and times were so peaceful, so fun and so NOT scary. Thank you for sharing that with me. I hope it was a good memory for you too. Yes, you made a lot of people happy and my family was one of them, at least me & my brother!
I went to the Beach Club in '61 when Bo Diddley was there. OMG, we could have been there at the same time. I was too young to get in but being a local had it's priviledges. Loved those big-ass waxed Dixie Cups they served their draft beers in.
We always stayed in a cottage that a friend owned, but I remember passing some of these places when we cruised the beach front. A great video and loved the music.
@BeachMusicDJ The promo poster was for John, Jerry and the Soulmasters a band out of Danville, VA. They were one of the first bands in that area to utilize horns and choreography with their performances.
R.I.P. The Pad & C.W. Blankinship (owner). Back in the late 50's & 60's, The Pad was the only place for locals to go in the dead of winter for a cold beer & to shag. It was really a magical time to grow up there in O.D.
.The Bee Lee was the first place I ever stayed at Myrtle Beach in 1962 with my Grandmother and uncle. We stayed there many times until it was no more.I believe G.B Carterilli or something close, were the owners. Sarah was the housekeeper . They ran a very nice clean inn and made us feel so welcome .. Those days are long past, but a plesent memory
Great music! I recall MB from when TDY with the USAF in the 1960s and bringing my family on vacation through the 70s - 90s. Moved to the NEW MB in '03 and to another beach in '08. The NEW MB is not where I want to be!
Stayed at the Bee lee early on in the 1960s Very clean practical rooms of the day Mr and Mrs Cartrette ran home like place. Sarah the maid would see we had cold ice in our pitcher , the rooms while not fancy to todays standard were really clean with beauty rest mattresses, all the room s had air. Int evenigh enjoyed setting on the big porch watching the folks pass by. Mr and Mrs Carterette were middle age then and felt they were to old to go big as most did around them. They had a good work of mouth trade and looked forward to certain repeat folks at different times of the year. Mrs Cartrette always sent a Christmas card if she wanted you to return saying how much she enjoy having you . Motel with a personal touch. We stayed until it closed , then found other places. Those early years still stick in my mind as a favorite
Awesome soundtrack! Where did you ever find all of those old postcards? I miss the mom & pop motels. The big chains have lost something in the way that they are.
You should put this together in a collage and sell it. It would be cool in the lobby of one of the big hotels. The future remembering the past. My sister is a manager at one of the big hotels there now. I am going to show her this. Thanks! Not old enough to remember them all, but, enjoyed MB every year growing up. Take my kids there now. It is not the same, but, still great.

My aunt and uncle bought the Kit Kat in the late sixties and how fun to see it on this slide show!

Does anyone remember Pier View Apts? Stayed there in 1963 after high school graduation.

Ah memories
Do you remember the tropic house?
Was it near 14 Ave N? That's where the Tropical Court & Apts were located.
