With thanks to the team at Burning Blue Design for giving me the opportunity to try out this beautiful rendition of a much loved grass strip airfield.
Popham airfield in Hampshire is home to the Spitfire Flying Club and has a host of interesting places to visit around it.
In this video we take a look at Popham itself and then have a run down to Stonehenge visiting some other sights along the way.

Awasome airfield another good airfield from burning blue design got all the other ones will get this as well
Nice video. Another burning blue airfield I need to add to my growing collection 👍 love the grass strip airfields especially in the A2A Comanche 👌
Many thanks! Yes its another beauty!
Just caught up with this video I love Popham fantastic little airstrip really done well by burning blue designs. Great video.
Hey thank you chief! Yes it’s a great little strip isn’t it. Another Burning Blue masterpiece!
Magnificent stuff. And the weather effects look astonishing, as you said.
The day only spoiled by unleaded still under £1.20 at the BP station...
Many thanks, and yes, those were the days!! 🤣
I've flown into Popham a few times, as a glider pilot from Lasham its a favourite if we're getting low and returning from the South West. It's a great representation of the airfield right down to the Yaks of which there were a couple last time I was there.
Ah fantastic! Thanks for taking the time to leave your comment. Good to know!
Nice relaxing flight, thanks!
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it!
Oh very very good video thank you. Maverick the guy at White Waltham with the Dobermans 😉
Fantastic!! 🤣. You are pretty much centre stage there 👍🏻. Many thanks for watching!
@@Dreamsofwings I feel totally honoured 👍🏻
And just subscribed to your channel
@@caiazzo123 big thanks!
I like flying the drone around these airfields to see what is their I agree I like the couple with the radio control aircraft
Yes a lovely bit of detail that is waiting to be discovered
I ran into an airport in WU14 yesterday that has occasional 3D weeds growing out of the concrete pavement cracks only in a low usage area. And there is bagged garbage and other trash in some of the big trash storage containers. It also has 3D dirt contaminated oil spills on the ground. I'm using VR.
I live in Andover it is spot on and so is thruxton and the a303 and the petrol station next to popem
Fantastic! Good to know 👍🏻 many thanks.
Great video as always another excellent airfield from burning blue designs
Many thanks Gary. Yes this is a cracking little airfield.
Late to the party on this one Rob, but well done and thanks for the tour! Also...thanks for costing me for the purchase of all Burning Blue Design airports... LOL
Oh well, I was due for a UK tour in MSFS anyway...;)
Any mention of Stonehenge is inexorably linked to Spinal Tap in my mind also... "I do not for one think that the problem was that 'the band was down'. I think that the problem may have been that there was a Stonehenge monument on the stage that was in danger of being crushed by a dwarf." LMAO!!
Thank you sir! Yes I cannot wait to fly the A2A aircraft in and out of here and SO glad you understand the Spinal Tap thing too! 🍻👏🏻
glad to see they have kept the petrol stn, i fly out of popham in the 1980 with my microlight, so i remember it well
ah fantastic, yes there seems a lot of detail in here. As someone else commented I need to actually read up on the local procedures before I end up overflying it again!
Hello from Ohio USA. Low and slow flying, at a grass airfield, that's what I like!! Great job on the video, hopefully fly to the UK on the sim soon.
Hello Ohio! Many thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Yes low and slow over a beautiful landscape is pretty much what flying is about to me, well apart from low and fast in a warbird lol
Purchased ! Very nice ! So realistic ! Thank You 👍🙏🏻✈️👨✈️
Thanks for watching! Have fun at Popham, it’s a cracking bit of scenery!
Yeh it’s a nice little airport innit. Nice and quiet like. I could see Coyote Airlines utilising such an airfield. Know what I mean? “Utilising” innit. Great video once again mon Captain
🤣 many thanks!
I used to fly a Cessna 152 at Popham, Not sure if its changed but the pattern was a bit off. You took off from 08 and straight after takeoff turned slight left to avoid flying over the filling station. So the pattern was a bit squiffy.
After being at Popham a couple of times I can confirm this looks like Popham.
Great thanks, good to know! 👍🏻
Great video. Sorry if you mentioned this already, but do you use a VR headset? If so, which make/model are you using?
Thanks very much! I do use a VR Headset, the Valve Index, but not for videos. The head movements in this video come from a head tracking system. Here’s a video I made about it if you are interested in knowing more. ruclips.net/video/CYbydhrS5lM/видео.html
@@Dreamsofwings Thanks
Just bought this and get a CTD every time! Xbox series x
Have you posted a support query on their Discord? If not give that a try.

Thanks so much! So long as it's not dear Brian Johnston, I'm not that old! :))
Dreamsofwings i am ,but love this.
@@harleyblue999 so glad you enjoyed it, many thanks sir.
Another low and slow Rob. One day you will just have to try my local field at Southport - No ! - not
the one UPP North - but here - down under on The Queensland Gold Coast - and do an L&S around my city
in the Orbyx Optica
Will add it to the future sortie list! 👍🏻
Great airfield. I fly out of it using Orbx Popham field regularly in FSX:Steam edition.
FlyingIron simulations have just updated their Spitfire Mk IX to version 1.0.3 and if you have their Spit, can you make a video review of it? I am almost ready to make the move to MSFS. I don't expect it to be on a par with A2As Spitfire but would like your opinion of the FlyingIrons Spitfire.
Yes I had the Orbx one too but have to say `I prefer this version. Works really well in 2020.
I have the FlyingIron Spit and have used it in a few videos. Here is a link to my original first impressions. They have released some updates since I made the video and it flies much better now though still has the odd engine noise pitch transition at times. Overall for the money it’s great fun and while we don’t have an A2A Spit it’s well worth having in your hangar! Here’s the video ruclips.net/video/mWxSabswIsE/видео.html
PLEASE....... do not fly into Popham using the approaches/departures highlighted in this video. Refer to a proper flightguide for correct details.
Yes as someone else has pointed out there are correct procedures which you can follow in the sim as the right features exist in it.
This video is NOT an attempt to describe the correct procedures and pattern at Popham, just a review of the scenery.
@@Dreamsofwings It's always nice of others to point out stuff like that.... Following correct procedures is not generally conducive to a great sightseeing experience...and clearly this was not intended as a tutorial on VFR procedures at Popham... ;)
