In this video we take a look at the impressive new H130 from Cowan Simulations and fly around the beautiful Bora Bora Improvement pack from CLi4D Designs.
I've been hoping to see this Helicopter in Microsoft Flight Simulator and it is great to see that Cowan Simulations has stepped up. It's a different aircraft to fly and I am looking forward to getting to know it better.

Something I noticed doing some practice flights after this is that this helicopter wobbles and yaws a lot in wind so if you want to just get used to the pure physics of the flight model try it first with no wind.

Very nice video! I finally need to get some of these CLi4D sceneries. Regarding the H130, I bought it this afternoon and have only flown it for 15 minutes. But my first takeoffs and landings looked very similar to yours. I really like the flight models of the recent Cowansim R66 and R22, so my first impression of the H130 is a bit disappointing. But I will put some more time into it, hoping to get a better feeling for how it will react.
Many thanks! Yes I had practise session this afternoon and I can dial into it at times and then all of a sudden it’s like riding an angry bull! I was flying world weather with 20kt gusting mountain winds though. I jumped into the 500E afterwards and that was much essier to fly by comparison. Interested to see what happens next with it.

Looks awesome, im started learning to fly helicopters in the sim. And im actually really enjoying it more than flying an airlines.
I felt the same. It’s a new challenge and the MSFS world is great for exploring in helicopters. It is addictive stuff.

I fly all sorts but have also started flying helicopters and now I love them, I think because MSFS is so great for exploring as mentioned it makes flying low great fun.

Thank you for the review! I like Cowan’s heli’s, but one negative point for me. The sound seems almost equal to the H125, that’s not correct. Since the H130 has a Fenestron, I miss that typical sound.
Hello i’ve noticed the fenestron sound problem to Joshua (Cowansim). He’s watching the problem and he will check if a New sound with fenestron is possible.

First thing I noticed in external view, it actually sounds like there's a tail rotor (H125 sound), instead of a fenestron.
I had a similar problem with the H125. It gave me the R66 sound for a couple of minutes, and then suddenly switch over to H125.
Looks like Cowansim nailed the difference between hydraulic cyclic and none hydraulic. I heard many real pilots describe the connection with the cyclic when they fly the 500E and 530F.

I keep remembering a comment on You Tube by an experienced helicopter pilot who said, at one point, "The best thing you can do in a heli is frequently NOTHING." I know what he meant when I get a bit hamfisted!

Thanks for a great video Dream of wings. I have been watching you for a few months now and I really enjoy your H145 videos. Could you do a London Air Ambulance or Wales Air Ambulance video with the H145? I have been learning to fly the H145 and it is truly the best helicopter I have for the sim. I do very well like the look on this H130 from Cowen Simulation it reminds me of the Gazelle helicopter which is a military helicopter very similar airframe and build not sure if the gazelle and the H130 is related I’m sure someone will now. I have recently been flying the DC-3 with the RAF livery from Duxford to Cornwall via the entirety of the South Coast of the UK ( English Channel ) as a D-day memorial and tribute. I have also used the Airshow Assistant Addon from the Marketplace which allows you to fly in formation.
Edit: I am still learning to fly helicopters so I still need to get used to how they handle.

@@Dreamsofwings it was truly a nice trip with the DC-3 , i did it in parts. Duxford to Lydd via London, Lydd to Bournemouth, Bournemouth to Newquay and Newquay to the Isles of Scilly then to Exeter.

I have all the Cowan helis and use the same config for all, except the R22 which needed a heavily turned down config. Watching this video, it reminds me of the first time I flew the R22 so it seems a similar model in terms of control. I don’t really fly the r22 as I don’t enjoy it, I’ve flown them IRL and it was much easier than the cowan r22 in the sim but I fully accept they have tested with real pilots. It’s just the only cowan heli I struggle with 🤷♂️ I will be getting the h130 soon and hope it doesn’t become another hangar queen
Yes I need to get more practice in. Interestingly those unpredictable yaw movements are seen in the real thing. An H125 pilot who worked alongside H130 pilots commented elsewhere that’s the kind of behaviour they saw in the H130. Also noticed in sim it is very effected by wind and gusts, even in lighter winds.
@@Dreamsofwings Interesting to hear about the h130 IRL, I love the heli and it has so much scope for different flight types given how many different roles it can do! I do think a lot of the troubles I have with yaw in helis are down to my hardware, I use the TM pedals and they do have a pretty strong centre, helis really want pedals with no return to centre at all. Now I’ve upgraded to a PC I am reviewing my whole control setup as I’m no longer limited to Xbox compatible devices.
@@alanharris2799 yes I know what you mean, I have the TPRs with damper mode but one day I’d love a full springless setup with collective lever
I really wish Cowan would do better with the FM's. The Taog's Hanger stuff, the HPG 145 (And from what I hear the H160), and the 407 Improvement Mod all have implemented all of the proper dynamics in flight, including RBS and VRS, as well as proper transition out of Ground Effect and control saturation/LTE. Taog's Huey was so good I quite literally uninstalled DCS, since my appetite for combat is gone and it scratches my itch all the same.
Cowan's helos ALL fly exceptionally well IGE, except this H130, which to me says that there is clearly some sort of issue with it that needs patching/fixing. But OGE, they're all lacking. Constant skid-low behavior and not being able to go into RBS, especially with something like the 206L3, which is very easy to get carried away speed wise in, is kind of frustrating. Especially since, for every helo they have out, bar the 206B3, they're the only game in town. FlyInside's 206 has all of the features, but trying to fly it after playing DCS or X-Plane will result in instant death, on account of how much slop there is in the controls.
Cowan's helos have a lot of potential and I find myself wishing for a plugin, or something that would improve things across the board.

Flown in this helicopter from Vegas to Grand Canyon will do this in the flight. Sim wheni buy this helicopter

Out of all the Cowan Heli's this just doesn't work, physics is just wrong, I have tried changing the sensitivity setting but just adjusting the collective a little doesn't justify it dropping out of the sky then occilating madly for no reason? I don't know what the pilots are testing this on but nooooo this doesn't work for me and I have all Virpil controls....
