- Robin Gay McCline, a Fresno native, possessed a multifaceted identity as an artist, architect, and local educator. He completed his architectural education at UC Berkeley and established the architectural firm Oaks and McCline in partnership with his colleague James Oakes. During their 12 years of collaboration, they contributed significantly to the region, overseeing the design and construction of no fewer than 60 residential properties and numerous commercial buildings.
When Fresno typically comes to mind, it's often associated with agriculture and scorching weather rather than a thriving modernist community. Nonetheless, individuals like Mike and Jess are trying to transform that perception. They drew inspiration from the modernist aesthetics of Palm Springs and successfully transplanted that essence into their home with their furniture and decor. The residence's Courtyard and yard have been thoughtfully curated with artworks by the local ceramist Stan Bitters, seamlessly complementing the overall landscaping and aesthetics of the home.
Mike and Jess's journey led them to acquire the house they had both dreamt of for years. The home has remained remarkably unchanged and authentically reflects its period, featuring well-preserved Terrazzo floors, original showers, countertops, walls of glass, and paneling. Virtually no modifications or updates have been made to the property, making it a prime example of an unaltered modernist home in Fresno and possibly one of the best-preserved in the area.

Awesome vid. Me and my fiancé have a mid century modern in Visalia that we and our dogs love. It’s nice to see one of our own moderns showcased this way. Many more around the valley but they aren’t always accessible for more people to see them as they should.
Ours was built in 1958 commissioned by Mr Blain who donated the land for Blain Park in Visalia.
Never knew George Clooney was so into MCM. Nice digs!
🙄😒🥸
If you turn the sound off, and just look at the house, it's way better. Haha!
@@MrPhotodoc As are 99% of videos like these.
I thought the same thing haha!
A cool midcentury that looks lived in; accessible art on the walls, personal effects everywhere, reasonably priced appliances, plus etc. So nice to see.
the organic feel of these two individuals in their home is beautifully conveyed through their story of acquiring the property.
their journey into homeownership is a testament to their profound connection with the house, one that goes beyond mere ownership. they recognize that they are part of a much larger story, one that began long before they arrived and will continue long after they leave. their approach to homeownership is a true celebration of the enduring legacy of the spaces we call home.
Beautiful home, particularly the interior and the way the exterior looks from the pool area. Another great installment in this series. It's always interesting to hear the owners' stories.
I had a conversation once with an architect who hated mid-century modern. He felt unlike colonial style homes mids had no personality or detail. My response was you can add style and personality with the interior colors and furnishings. He looked at me for a few seconds and had no response. Unfortunately i've always lived in areas wher you almost never saw a mid century modern home. Nor could i afford to hire and architect to design or build one for me.
Love this series - another great addition and one of my personal favourite homes to date. Love how the house still feels original but tastefully modernized. Well done home owners and Open Space.
Such a beautiful house - and it's a pleasure to see that a bright and conscious couple live there who are able to fully appreciate what they have. I am impressed by both the building and its inhabitants.
Wow what a nice place with nice people living in it
Bravo! Nicely done Mike, Jess and Open Space. House looks wonderful and I would have bet a hundred bucks that Old Fashioneds would make an appearance :)
Thanks E! Old fash for life!
Message to the owners…Hello neighbor! My wife and I live in a MCM house here in Fresno in Old Fig. A 1957… only one other owner from new and never remodeled. Love your Stan Bitters thumb pot and bird houses. Coffee is on me at Cafe Van Ness if you ever want to hang out and talk about MCM here in the Central Valley. Love your home.
Hello neighbor! Thank you for the kind words! Would love to meet up and talk shop! We are planing a MCM home tour in Fresno this year and we are looking for home owners willing to feature their home on the tour. Let me know your email and I will send you more information! Thank you again, and Happy New Year! Mike + Jess
MCM is king and this is perfect. Love the orange door. Just replace that Honda with an old 911.
Beautiful home, and lovely owners :)
Woah, that last shot was amazing!
It's great to see a house that has a proper entrance and a kitchen that is in the proper place. The lunacy of tearing down walls and putting the kitchen in the middle of the floor and visible from the street door, is baffling.
Beautiful original Stan bitters art
STUNNING.
Great work as usual!!
Thank you!
Congratulations, the best thing about the house is its owners: a young, sensitive couple who persevered until they achieved their dream. His good taste is excellent, to the point that the wife is dressed in orange/terracotta, matched with the colors of the house, a sign that the devil is in the details. Enjoy your dream with peace and love. Thanks for share with us this video.
This is so damn cool.
Stunningly beautiful house❤
Phenomenal
Such a rad house !
I am a huge mid-century fan and admit i have this on constant loop play. Absolutely LOVE this home.
right thats it, I'm going to paint my door that orange
Fresno ? Who knew ? I hope this is the trend.
Dream home
Excuse me if I’m wrong, but isn’t there a Harwell Harris house in Fresno also??
Yes, There is! We also have a William S. Beckett and several Cliff May Customs! I beileve at one time there was also condo structure by Craig Ellwood as well, sadly it is no longer standing.
Arthur dyson has a lot of funky buildings in fresno. He has houses as well, but i prefer his buildings. Check out the fresno Buddhist temple. Dyson supposedly has a connection to frank l. Wright.
Yes Art Dyson studied at Taliesin with Wright. Dyson worked on the restoration of the Fawcett House in Los Banos. It is for sale and they are having an open house this Sunday 10/1. It is amazing!
Some mid-century homes are definitely cold but there's nothing cold about this home! Incredible!!
Another stunning home beautifully presented!
Bu kanal bir harika
That poor girl.
These MCM house are absolutely stunning! Thanks for sharing it with us !
🌻
Beautiful! Thanks for making this!
I went to high school and junior high school in Fresno. Fresno is a shit hole.
great production, love the film look!
Another fantastic home and video!!
So cool that you wrote to the owners! Kudos to you two - that beautiful house and you belong together.
Thank you so much!
The orange is incredible
What are these people?
There’s a way to share your passion for architecture and interiors without inducting me into a cult. I like MCM too. You’re obviously more knowledgeable than me. Thats great!
I love how he described the house feeling like it’s “giving you a hug”😊
Beautiful house!
beautiful home
The house is so cool and beautiful, overall and in the details. Love the pool deck.
Nice Fender amp. I have the same one.... ;-). The issue I found with American mid-sentry homes is the poor quality of building materials. Granted they were built for a certain demographic but the cost to bring it up to a quality standard would be too high.
love it 😍 😊 🥰
It’s beautiful but completely inappropriate for the climate. Fresno County has intense heat - 119° - and intense cloudless summer sun. All that exposed unshaded glass would make living there miserable.
This was an architect designed home. The climate would have been taken into account when designing the house.
Hello, The home has 5 foot eaves and south facing glass. Its actually pretty comfortable in both summer and winter. The large eaves shade the intense summer sun, and when the sun is lower in the sky during winter months it warms the home. Homes in Palm Springs, where the temps reach triple digits on the regular, are very similar. It is all about window placement and a study of the sun and its location in the sky.
I love it!
✨✨
So tastefull!! Amazing
very modernist and calm
I hope you like my home.
The home is great, the furniture and art sadly is basic and cliché. Don't buy new stuff if you have a MCM house people, it strips the character..
Most of that furiture and art is vintage!
@@sunnysidevpa After rewatching i guess you're right, there's a decent bit. I guess i meant more high end stuff like Pearsall and Evans and Kjaerholm and Kagan, stuff like that, and true high end 60s abstract expressionism. (yes, i'm aware, that stuff costs a fortune) Worth it though xD
@@milootje007😂😂😂😂 Stahp you don’t know what you’re talking about
@@gersonmejia7719 Funny. You should see my house and you'd understand.
Pearsall was sold at Value City.
FAAAAAANTASTIC house that's been IMPECCABLY restored!!!
