If you don't have good lockpick (and hacking), then what happens is you might find a safe that you can't pick, then you leave and never come back because you forgot where the stupid safe is. Better to be able to just open stuff when you encounter it.

I'd argue that Aquaboy is much more valuable in a survival-mode game where fast travel isn't an option, since it allows you to quickly travel through the relatively encounter-free waterways .

yes but all perks are convenient. You can kill a endgame deathclaw in the glowing sea with your "starter" pipepistol also it just takes forever and you need to have 1 million rounds on you. Aquaboy is a very early lifesaver and it has 0 weight. To get the hazmat and mirelurk cakes you need to fight and track for a long time and in survival you dont want to do that a rushing mirelurk depending on your build can one hit you and then you have to track all the fucking way again. You want to not have to use rad away or rad x because water even if its not rare it weights to much to carry around along with everything else you need on your build in the early game. its only when you reach a high lvl and you have the gear you want with the upgrades you want it becomes an ehh... perk but that is the same with most perks when you are strong as shit you dont need them.
do a playthrough on survival and reach about lvl 50 without any perks and then you will see what i mean. You can still do a pretty good amount of damage even without perks and you can also take bullets pending on your gear but it is possible.

  • @Rangersly

Scrounger is MUCH more useful than Fortune Finder. Some ammo are hard to get in quantity even with plentiful of caps and access to the best vendors. Also, ammo is pretty much a currency in it's own way. Most ammo is worth at least 1 cap each, the rare ones will be worth more. Also, ammo, like caps weight nothing, so a good way to make easy money when you can't haul all the junk to vendors. So, Scrounger gives you the benefit of both perks, sell the ammo you don't need for caps, get more of the rare ammo for free (thus saving you even more money that you are not spending resupplying at vendors).

+Rangersly I agree with that. I use 38 and 5mm as currency, since I don't use weapons chambered in either. I also use Fat men and Flamers, since they are a little more high value.
When I "Bought" the Overseer's Guardian, I traded 4 or 5 Fat Men, 2 Flamers and the remainder in 38 and still had a ton of 38 left over.

Holy bananas Batman! You didn't mention the absolute BEST convenience perk in the game?!?!?!
*Local leader* --> ALL of your Junk is shared between all of your settlements. Thus, you don't need to travel around and gather loot for each settlement. You simply have someone become a Provisioner and then you can build up your settlement (Beacon, Defenses, workbenches, generators, beds, etc.) right away. This game is infamous for Preston constantly sending you off to help settlements so that they can become a part of your dynasty/kingdom, why wouldn't you want to be able to build up defenses to keep the, "Help defend Some Settlement Far Away!" from occurring so frequently? Local Leader is one of the first 5 perks I take, so that I can properly build out the settlements. From that point on, I don't have to worry about where I stop and dump off my Junk, any place will do because it all becomes one big resource pool.
Later, when you're ready to invest another point into *Local Leader*, it allows you to make shops (to generate income and get better items) as well as workbenches for areas that don't have them. What's the use of becoming a Water Baron if you don't have the distribution chain to get your product out?

Local Leader is one of my favorites. Even if I'm not doing much in the way of settlement building, it saves the hassle to trying to remember where you left what. It gets annoying when I show up at Hangman's Alley, ready to upgrade my new gun, only to discover my supply of fiber optics is in Jamaica Plain and my oil is in Sanctuary.
The stores are nice, but the big advantage of level 2 is having a full set of work benches in any settlement I control instead of dragging whatever I'm modifying and a bunch of junk to the nearest appropriate bench.

Strong back fully ranked is my top convenience perk. How else am I going to haul 600 purified waters to Diamond City to sell for ammo and junk, then carry the junk back to my settlement workshop? Even in survival mode, siding with the institute gives the ability to fast travel to the institute as long as you are in the commonwealth and outside. Sell what you can there and then run even over encumbered from the CIT ruins to Diamond City. That’s what I did on my first survival character. No mods and only a minor exploit at the cooking pots for food. Most of the time however I would just stock up on noodle cups as they replenish thirst and hunger.

One of the upgrades to the Sneak perk gives you the ability to never set off enemy traps. It's a convenience perk because I could just be more careful and disarm the traps (disarming them is still worth doing even after taking this perk for the small amount of XP gains), but this perk ensures you're not taken by surprise and forced to use up stimpaks to heal yourself after accidentally stepping on a mine or triggering a gunshot.

  • @emilypowell1605
    @emilypowell1605 8 лет назад +12

Some perks I like are local leader, if you're into the settlement thing, it's very helpful to have supply lines instead of stocking each workshop. Another one would be the buying for less and selling for more perk. Obviously the use of that is that you save more caps, which is always a good thing. I personally decided to get the scrounger perk instead of fortune finder because you can sell ammunition that you don't use for a cap each and you don't have to buy as much ammunition that you do use.

I’m not sure if these count as convenience perks but...
For me a maxed out life giver, which heals you overtime, and a two perk point Solar Energy, which gets rid of radiation overtime, is a necessity.
Basically, with Life giver you don’t have to use any stimpacks after fights or if you’re running low on them (if you wait... then you don’t need stimpacks at all, even during fights), and with solar energy there’s no need for Radaway.
Life Giver’s Health Regen costs 3 perk points and level 20.
Solar Energy’s Radiation Removal costs 2 perk points and level 27.
Legit, the only thing I need to worry about is having enough Jets, Psycho Jets, and Buffjets on me, since my character is melee based.

I personally move like an army. getting a settlement up with supply lines, going out to scouting to another spot using the power armor,. having the stores up to sell is key. so yes public speaker gonna be a perk, nuclear physics for longer use of the fusion pack. chemist for longer duration of chems, and lady killer will give you an edge in negotiations and battle. I was also thinking ghoulish perk but its such a high requirement its really a plan ahead perk. but i see the benefit if your gonna go play in the glowing sea and farm legendary weapons and armor... perhaps in another built. I,ve never used the v.a.n.s system for i came in on my first game playing this soldier that has had education in historical war, tactical and notably The manual of "the art of war. which funny enough i,ve used and its made the game experience a 100 times more fun. Just imagine having so much influence that you end up being the top ranked in all factions except railroad because they truly are without leadership. my character never wanted any power he just wanted his son......I could tell you the real ending to you and you would agree it would of kicked every ending this game came up with... its suck a shame they never seen it.

I figured out ammo was tradable in my first playthru. One level of Scrounger gives me all the ammo I need and increases my tradable items as well. I reduced my tradable items when I took Scrapper to get a big reduction on the components I had to trade for. I still trade basic weapons and armor but upgraded versions yield a lot more components for upgrades to my weapons and armor. This also enables me to give good, upgraded weapons and armor to my settlers.

Thanks for letting me know that there is such a thing as Team Aqua Boy. I think with certain builds, crafting skills (Gun Nut, Science, Armorer, Blacksmithing) may be considered mere convenience perks, as well, since you can find most mods on other weapons and armour you find or can buy. Scrounger is still pretty much my only perk I designate by level. From a play style, the rest can be worked around. I just really hate being forced to use a gun because I have no ammo for the one I want to use.
All other perks I will scramble to get are in fact companion and magazine perks. Double meat magazine, the Piper double exper on exploration perks? I go out of my way to get those as soon as I can. I've done the math and Piper perk early, amounts to around 5000 experience over a play through, even with a low intelligence build. Getting all 10 covert magazine perks is 50% sneak and I don't need to be any level to get them. Power perks aren't in the tree.

BTW JV2017, you should be more intelligent about your targetting.
For melee attackers (Assaultrons seem to give you a lot of problems), simply concentrate your fire on their legs. They will be become crippled/disabled and you can then finish them off at your leisure. Assaultrons are terrible at ranged attacks and are very fast, so stop trying to take their heads off. Same goes for even the toughest ghouls, dogs, or Suiciders, simply take out one of their legs and then they're helpless.
For ranged attackers like Raiders or Gunners, aim for their arms or 'center mass'. I'd rather put 5 shots @ 95/100 into their chest than attempt 5 shots @ 65 into their heads. But regardless, if they carry a weapon, shoot that arm. It only takes one or two shots to make them drop their weapon and then they just dance around looking for a weapon to pick up. That's when you reload or queue up a bunch of VATS shots and finish them.
Crouch to shoot whenever you're not running. You take a lot of standing shots, and it makes your aim worse, not to mention you'll never get a Sneak attack (2.0x dmg) bonus that way. And, why don't you have a scoped rifle for longer shots? You got a "Mighty" (+25%) combat rifle in that attack on Vault 95, you should make that into a .308 sniper rifle, you'll do a lot of damage with that bad boy.
Lastly, when you have cover and are taking a shot of say, 30 feet or more, try throwing a couple of frag mines in front of your cover. If something closes on you, you back pedal a bit and let them run into the mines. If no one gets that close to you, just pick up your mines and set up at your next spot. You seem to spend a lot of time back pedaling and then having to retake a position you just held.

I think it would be neat if Awareness not only told you the enemy's stats and resistances, but also showed specifically what they were wearing on each body part when highlighted, not only the armor type but also what mods it has. First I want to compliment you on your videos. I've watched a few of them now and I do agree for the most part.
However, I'd argue that science, gun nut, blacksmith, and armorer are also convenience perks with the exception of maybe science and armorer simply because of the building structures and giving power armor different paint jobs for often trivial effects. Also there's the ballistic weave under-armor that you at least need armorer for (so I can see how these 2 could be taken off the convenience list). I have done several play-throughs and never put points into these 4. Yet I still had at least one or 2 fully modded weapons and 4 fairly high up modded weapons by like lvl 30 -- all from finding the parts on enemy guns, putting basic parts on that one then putting the upgraded part on mine -- all whilst only exploring about 1/4 or 1/3 of the map. Armor is a bit harder since there are so many different variations (raider, leather, metal, synth, etc and each of those having 3 subsets that determine the base stats of them) and it's generally just harder to find higher tier armor at lower levels anyway. But even then, I may not have had the best armor. Even so, you aren't going to have the best armor anyway at lower lvls so I was actually progressing at about a normal rate if not faster simply because I had all the extra screws, copper, metal, plastic, etc. that I could then use for building up structures or decorating or making chems and other stuff like that, which in turn gave me more exp to further build my character for those damage, sneak, and random skills like demolitions that I don't really need but allowed me to craft different grenades that are more effective when I got into those sticky situations or the opportunistic situations where a pack of 5 or 6 wild ghouls are grouped up. It could just be me but I feel these are the number 1 convenience perks that are kind of misconstrued as being necessary which is a HUGE lie. I play on survival difficulty, I always have and I rarely run into a mob that I can't kill with just mods for armor and weapons I have found on previous mobs I've killed. It may take a bit of sniping or making use of the terrain around me and setting some traps but it is possible and quite easy to do. The ONLY time I have ever used power armor is the very first minutemen quest in concord where you basically have to because you literally don't have any decent weapons and you can't complete the final objective unless you completely forgo that entire section until you get a better gear load-out and some more skills in your chosen skill tree.
Also, I feel hacker and locksmith should have been on the same one like on your 10 best perks video.
Again, I'm not trying to bash your opinion, I'm just trying to possibly give you a different perspective as well as constructive criticism on a small mistake. Obviously there are several more convenience perks and you can't list them all in an ordinal ranking video unless you somehow grouped them by aspects that they improved, like criticals, survivability, dmg, stealth, dialogue, general travel, etc. (which could actually be a beneficial video if you looked at different builds and emphasized the focus of some of them and the thought processes that likely go behind the builds for less experienced players which you seem to be doing anyway [ex. melee builds generally go for 1 hit kills for most things so you prioritize dmg then stealth, then criticals if you use vats a lot, with some survivability weaved in throughout where someone feels they are dying or coming close to dying too much to play comfortably]). Then, the people that watch that video can not only learn what they are possibly doing wrong, but different methods of thinking; which in turn can help them in any future games they play like this. So it is a learning experience that they can apply to other games that they may play.

And these you may or may not want depending on how you are playing (especially which companions you have):
    6) Locksmith
    7) Hacker
    8) Lone Wanderer (if you use Dogmeat, this perk still applies fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Lone_Wanderer_(perk)

    10) Awareness - but definitely my last pick though.

I think scrounger significantly undermines Fortune Finder. There is always ammo you're never gonna use in the game. Eventually you will no longer use .38 ammo, or you may upgrade your .45 combat rifle to a .308 reciever, so you will probably be selling a lot of .45 ammo. The point is you can get just as much money selling ammo as you can with Fortune finder, if not more. Beside, I love getting extra Fusion cores and Mini Nukes from the max out at Scrounger. The point is, you can get scrounger and never have to invest in fortune finger.
I suppose Big Sale could be a convenience perk. You can always grind for the caps, or just find the stuff you're buying out in the wastes, but it's just so much easier to get discounts and invest in stores so you can get good guns, lots of ammo, or supplies in general, rather than grind away at weaker enemies for supplies or farm for legendary items.

  • @DawnLynnCat
    @DawnLynnCat 8 лет назад

Fortune Finder is more of a hindrance in combat.
#1. Highest Rank makes enemies explode in a mess of blood and caps a little too much at times.
#2. You got to pick up the caps which is not good in the midst of combat since you got to look around at the ground to find the caps.

Have to disagree on fortune finder. It is a good jumpstart for finding caps at the beginning. Lev.4 can make enemies explode with caps so along with the few caps the body has on them there are aditional caps on the ground best I've seen so far is +45 caps. Same with scrounger. Finding more ammo is good but at full rank it can reload your clip without taking ammo out of your stock. Ammo can also be used as cap-cash. Got 1388 .38 bullets but not using any .38 firing weapons? Sell it all and you now have 1388 caps to barter with. I use these when I want to by material shipments. Also save your food items. Setup abernathy to produce all the food needed for making refreshing beverage. Once you have that nuka collas fancy lad snack etc are pretty worthles for health. Sell them to a trader and buy materials or what you need. Pack mual as it's called in my game allows you to fast travel overweight at full rank but you have to put up with hearing your character running out of breath every 5 secs until you return to your settlement. Hope I helped a few out with this.

Survival mode reshuffles some from convenience, into must-haves. Aquaboy 1 is S tier, for example. Quick, encounter-free travel, no items needed. Local Leader 1, for supply lines, to drop off meat anywhere, and cook only what you need anywhere. Besides the obvious shared workshop. Moving Target 3, Action Boy 3, because traveling everywhere becomes much , much faster. Basically, as you can see, traveling efficiently is S tier, to me. The game is much more fun. No need to run everywhere, constantly stopping and waiting to slowly regenerate AP and do random fights.

    • @edmartin875

@@edmartin875 Hey, i hear you, if you don’t have a build that’s built to sprint, sprinting soon leaves you out of AP and defenseless.
But when you do, it’s like comparing apples to oranges. No way do i want to play on Survival, without fast travel, and just jog.
My build drains AP so slowly while sprinting, it’s hard to even tell the meter is draining. Distance-wise, around 300 yards. And I’m ready to go again in 5 seconds.

@@edmartin875 Hey there. I need to correct myself. I did a test. I sprinted non-stop from the far SE corner, starting at Warwick settlement, all the way to Sanctuary. I only needed to jog 3 times to regen AP. I sprinted for 4 bars worth of AP.
That’s basically 2 bars of AP to go halfway across the map with one jog to regen. I can go from corner to corner, across almost the entire map, with only 30 seconds spent jogging, the rest sprinting. (Level 53. 245 AP. AP bar fully regens in just 10sec) No drugs were used. No consumables either.
I don’t know what distance that is in yards, Warwick to Sanctuary. But if you’re only sprinting 50-100 yards before you need to jog and regen AP, you’re probably taking 20-30 jog breaks to go that far.
All of this goes to dispelling your concern. You’re worried about getting enemies catching without AP. As you can imagine, I’m almost never in that position. I could sprint from Sanctuary to Diamond City, never letting my AP bar go below half, and i can get there having only spent 15 seconds of the trip jogging. 4 half bars of AP, and 3 five second jogs.
When it’s all said and done, Survival requires running everywhere. No fast travel. And i love a build that can easily handle that.

I think scrounger is useful if your build is based on the Commando Perk, since automatic weapons use more amunition per kill, even if you are a good shot. The combat rifle is very good with burst fire, but you use at least 3 rounds to kill something that would only need one with a semi automatic with the rifleman perk. It's even more useful imo if you consider the assault rifle and the minigun. But I agree that if you have a rifleman based build the scrouger perk is a bit useless.

if your a hoarder use the supply lines. I,ve never used the strong back perk. use the lone wanderer perk and send your companion to your desired settlements.you'll increase your carrying capacity in seconds.if your still overweight call a bird and get air lifted out.. those perk points you use could be easily be put in stats that can really be helpful.

Medic perk is also necessary to build the top tier medical clinic at your settlements.

I like the robotic expert perk because you can shut down robots and then destroy them to get the stuff that they drop, and at the second rank you get the automatron DLC early (if you don't get it, look it up and you'll understand)

Having somebody else picking locks and hacking locks for you is a convenience? Never thought of it that way before.
I have both, I like to pick locks and hacking computers in the game. In real life I don't think I would ever been so successful at it.

I love scrounger because I frequently sell useless ammo for money. It’s potentially thousands of caps in gear with 0 weight burden

There is probably a mod for that. I know there is a scrap everything mod for settlement building.

I always have to take lock pick and hacker...can't stand not opening a container or door.
Likewise I always feel compelled to get scrounger to make lock pick and hacker worth it.
I sometimes get at least one or two ranks of fortune finder at most...because anything more and you'll literally find caps everywhere...which breaks the game and any immersion.
As a console peasant I don't exactly have access to the best mods or console commands...so I try to create my own custom difficulty with my character perks set up and some self imposed restrictions as I find survival pretty obnoxious and tedious in some key respects.
I love some of the ideas but mostly it's a chore and becomes tedious rather quickly, plus it forces a very narrow play style and practically demands ya waste all your perk points on what I consider boring "quality of life" stuff to offset or compensate for survival mode rules.
If I could (without the need for mods) toggle a few of the settings or hell if there was just a more appropriate time scale or the ability to set certain food items and water to be consumed automatically instead of having to stop and do it manually every five or ten minutes...if that was an option I'd love survival mode and probably only ever play on that setting.
As it is I usually play on a lower difficulty but refuse to take any health medic or damage resistance perks, I'll turn off auto save refuse to fast travel and only save when I'm either at a settlement, faction base or "safe" city zone etc...
I generally build vats characters with max agility and perception, as I love gun fu and concentrated fire, I also dig penetrator...so I choose or build light gear to compliment that, I eventually try to raise luck, intelligence, strength and my other special stats to levels where I can get grim reapers sprint critical banker and few quality of life perks like strong back etc...
Rifleman is my go to weapon perk and energy weapons are my favourite, I.E the laser "righteous authority" danse gives you which I usually get pretty early on and between his mission and killing kellog...there's a shitload of ammo to be had so I generally rush to those...plus I always want the brotherhood to arrive as quickly as possible because they add a certain chaotic and bad ass vibe to exploring the commonwealth.
Eventually I get bored though and want to play with the other "toys"...sometimes ya just want to blow shit up and cut loose with a mini gun or charge in pumped up on psycho jet and hack a few raiders to death with a flaming sword or battle axe.
I also like to mod, customise and improve my favourite weapons instead of just swapping randomly to whatever I can find or has the most ammo...so I tend to sell slash swap 10mm 38 and 45 for 9which I always seem to have in abundance for what I really want or need at that moment.
Point is on lower difficulties there's more room to experiment with the games features and change up ya play style if it starts to feel stale...it's a pity there isn't a way to reset your perk points

Action Boy. Even on builds that don't use VATs. It allows for more sprinting, jet pack use, etc depending on build

My problem with strong back is the required strength stat in the first place. If I had 6 strength, I wouldn't need this perk. Maybe a heavy weapons/power armor user in survival mode because of how heavy that ammo is.

You may have had this suggestion in the past, but I'm thinking that the next time I start over, I'm going to hoard anything with ballistic fiber in another container (i.e. not my workshops) from the beginning of the game so that when I'm finally able to get to Armor 4 and work with the Railroad, I can just build the suit I want and not have to zip all over the common wealth going to vendors looking for raw materials.

    • @edmartin875
      @edmartin875 2 года назад

You can also buy shipments of 25 ballistic fiber from some vendors early too. But, yeah, I do the same thing. I have about 15 red toolbox containers at my home base where I put certain items in with it's own kind to help me keep track of items of interest.

I haven't messed with Rank 2 of aquaboy because it seems to conditional but I can see where it can come in handy but rank one is more than worth it if nothing else it saves travel time
