I cried when he spoke about the attempted suicide. As my only brother hung himself in 2012. My parents found him, and my dad tried to resuscitate him, but he was already dead. Bless ya, mate.

Amazing man and thank you for your service Dave❤, it makes me so bloody angry that veterans are pushed aside when out of the Army and have backs turned on them, being a parent of an veteran and things need to change as in our military and veterans need support. All the best Dave ❤

I have had mental health issues from sexual abuse at four till twelve, PTSD AND BPD. I function as I am sixty-eight years old however I have never felt completely healed. Places in Canada they do Ketamine treatments but I am too far away to try it. I think you are a brave man whose body and mind just one day said enough is enough mate. I am glad you have made it to the other side and thank you for your service, also my deepest sympathy for the loss of your mates. Oh, one more thing, they don’t pay you near enough money for what you do! Take care and stay safe and healthy! 🇨🇦❤ 1:39:04

My grandad joined the army at 17 lied about his age would only talk about the things he had seen and Done when he was very drunk.. I think of what the hell on earth it must of been like for the lads in the first world war .. no clean camps no air support no information just over the top .. and all them story's never told.. I take my hat off to anyone who's given there time to any army an come out the other side. Nothing good comes from war the way I see it 😢. Great podcast massive respect to you both glad his in a better place an is moving forward 👍

I think it takes a special kind of person to go in the military, and each and every serving and ex member of the armed forces has my total respect. Sadly though we are still seeing to many returning hero's being let down by Govt, and that has to be a priority for change.

Here's a thought. Those at the top of the chain of command (in shiny shoes) who facilitate the training of individuals to become elite fighters, (but don't give a toss when individuals suffer), they then move on to find a position of grandeur in some well-known high profile veteran charity when they retire. One has to ask whether they are the foundation of the problem and the primary reason why only a tiny percentage of funding, intended to support Veterans, is actually disseminated to a programme intended to help our Veterans.

Afraid of heights, made me laugh, my father, recently died, was 3 Para, & I could never get my head around him saying he was afraid of heights too, when I asked him how he got around it he said I just put my head down a went. I was surprised at how low they jumped from too.
He served 63-69, seen action in Radfan, my mother gave him an ultimatum, leave & come home to Northern Ireland or divorce, ruined his life, he was violent, he drunk every day too, right up to the end. They divorced anyway & you could see the regret in him every day. He’d have stayed in to the end, though you could see he had demons too, but given he was born in 1945, he wouldn’t talk.
